Isn't the other side of the coin that kill streaks encourages smarter play, causing players to be less cavalier with their own and their teammates lives?

A counter to that I've seen often is 'it promotes camping.' I don't exactly agree with that statement, and I think it's nice you get rewarded for doing and well and it benefits your team, but I just think the numbers are a bit low.

5, 10 and 15 in the same order seems more suitable for me, and promotes more tactical play, but you could also say that promotes MORE camping. Big Smile [:D]

It's a dull arguement to me.

Thats a good point JD. And I can see both sides of the coin. But when I hear people talking about playing "smart", it usually reminds me of people hiding in one spot slowing down the action of the game. It's just that my style of play is more along the Gung-Ho/Rambo lines.  I just love being in the middle of the action. And sometimes there really is no action going on due to people hiding out waiting for me to run out in the open and get that easy kill. Setting up the perks in the way that it wont matter if you die in between I feel would liven up the action in the game because no one would feel the need to consistantly hide in fear of loosing their streak. One idea would be to just make the amount of kills needed to get a steak higher.  Say 10-20-30 for example (I dont know what the kill limit is going to be in say TDM).  Just throwing some ideas out.

That is the other side of the argument, but in my opinion it promotes camping more than anything else.   I liked the way your employer set it up in COD3.

At a certain number of kills you'd get extras, like smoke, more rifle grenades, bigger artillery barrages, etc.

It just seemed more balanced than not having many deaths, getting whether through luck or skill a good kill streak going, and getting an arsenal that can wipe out a lot of people.

In COD3, unless you were a scout, your kills on the leaderboard were determined by kills you made yourself without help from above.

Also, JD 2020, I just got an e-mail today saying Activision announced WaW.  So, can you confirm if there will be ranked and unranked matches?.  I could have swore I read or heard there were, but CHEFS made me doubt my own ears.

Other people have brought this up as well, and it would be nice to know.

I'm with JD on this one. The kill streaks are a big part of what sets COD 4 apart IMO. It makes good players slow down and think more tactically instead of running around the whole time.

Granted, running and gunning is fun and a big part of my game, but the streaks add a nice twist to make people play smart.

EDIT: Also, to JD or Chefs, anyway we can confirm whether we will be able to play splitscreen online multiplayer?

I'm really hoping it will be included in this one, sucks having to switch off maps with my roomate.

How about you take out all the perks and take us back to the GOOD old COD gameplay or at least take out Martyrdom and we can keep the kill streaks. This is gonna be a good game by itself man, you don't have to put martyrdom in it to get people of COD4.

Another WaW MP question...are we going to be stuck with these miniscule 5 min/750 point games? Or can we go back to the 1hr long games of CoD3? I'm guessing we cant as they are doing away with the p2p hosting.

Unless they actually managed to implement 'host migration', and not the excuse CoD4 uses for it....?

Haha, I feel your frustration with campers. There is nothing more frustraing in COD4 than coming around a corner into some nub aiming is red dot down the hallway (same guy has juggernub and last stand 99% of the time). But the streak bonus's really only slow me down once I get to 5, just to make sure the I get to the choppa (and maybe a little camping once I finally use the chopper Wink [;)]).

And really, most nubs don't get to 5 kill streaks anyways, so it doesnt encourage them to camp. It's just teaches better players to slow down and pick their spots once they get on a run. Its a good thing.

Actually 99% of the time they have martyrnub, not juggernaut. But yeah that happened alot, especially when you had like 6 kills and you wanted the helicopter but you go around a corner and either got shot by a guy with a red dot M16 or you mow the guy down and can't get away from his martyrdom. I don't understand why anyone would use it other then for HQ...in most other gametypes it does more damage to them then to the person that you were trying to kill in most other gametypes. It get's annoying after awhile, but it's easily avoidable in just about every other gametype except what I said before.

Yeah, either last stand or martydom are both douche tactics. But hey, if its the only way they can get kills, more power to them.

There are gonna be cheap players in any multiplayer game. The key is to rise above it and domminate the nubbers.

I don't blame the player for using them or think they're a douche. It's in the game, and people will use what's given to them.

I think the real "douches" are the programmers who put something as idiotic, asinine, and plain moronic in the game to start with.

Now that WaW is coming out I hear they're keeping the perk, when if you read countless threads across the internet people hate it.

The only defenders of it are pretty much people saying "Well, just avoid it", "you must suck at the game," blah-blah-blah.  A lot seem to be just fanboys defending their beloved game with their usual drivel.

I can count on one hand the times I've seen people saying they love martyrdom and it was a great addition to the game.  It's usually people saying how much it sucks.

Treyarch needs to take this perk out of the game.  I can understand the reason they feel they needed to copy COD4 to near its exact design standards, but more of us than not I'd be willing to bet would love martyrdom shelved.

I think I have found me a new friend sir, we share the same exact thoughts. You know the reason they're bringing martyrdom and juggernaut back is because they think that's the only way they can get people of COD4. And since 98% of the people on COD4 use either martyrdom or juggernaut they know that people will switch over. I mean, do they honestly think their game will suck that bad if they don't bring back those stupid perks? This game WILL get old just like COD4 did, and I hate to say that because it's made by Treyarch.

I hear you, Gator26.  I hope we're both wrong, but I see that as a huge possibility.  The overwhelming amount of posts I've seen about martyrdom (the perk I hate) and juggernaut is that people hate both.

With that you'd think Treyarch could copy COD4 a little less and listen to the consumers who think such perks stink and shelve them.

It's as if in their minds COD4 to a majority of the consumers is perfect and if they don't copy all of its design elements 100 percent the COD4 groupies won't buy it.  I agree to an extent, but that doesn't mean you have to bring the crap from the game, also.  It's far from perfect.

It's far from perfect.

if it were my decision... i'd rip out perks and kill streak bonuses all together. keep it to where perks resided in concrete classes. because even though COD4 allowed for people to choose their own perks, most people used the same perks for the same purposes... idk though

Same here, gr33nf1re.  I don't like perks unless they're based on classes.  That said, I'm enjoying the heck out of Bad Company right now.  No perks, big maps, no juggerpanties or martyrdom clowns, and vehicles.

It's pretty fun.  It's even pulled me away from playing COD3 as much, which I've played since the game's launch.

It's unwise to be too sure of one`s own wisdom. It's healthy to be reminded the strongest may weaken and the wisest might err

Honestly i have no problem with the perks well except for one . Which i wont name becuz its makes tea bagging unsafe and me saying the name would get me kicked out of a tea bagging cult i am in. But the perks is what made cod4 soo twitchy and fast paced and if you u were to take them out u wud jus get cod3 with smaller maps and no vehicles.
