Microsoft is retarded.
This has to be one of the most idiotic things our government has done. What the hell is the point in banning under 18's from being allowed to play/view content that is G rated? What really f*cks me off is that this new law came into affect the day before I bought my 360 so I never got the joy of downloading some games. I also think the government or Microsoft didn't quite think this through. Here's why. 1) They are losing a LOT of money they could be making right now with people buying MS points and spending them. A hell of a lot of people are -18 that like to buy Marketplace content as we can tell from all the people complaining on the matter. Also they haven't made any official statements of the new problem which means right now people are currently purchasing some points down at EB games or *** Smith spending all their saved up pocket money only to discover the Marketplace is currently broken, and after a few days of waiting they decide to check on the internet only to realize thousands of people have the same problem and are complaining about it right now right here. *breath* 2) Once the people discover the -18 XB360 players cant download due to age, they can all simply make a new account on the same console using a new Windows Live ID with a fake age. Now they can still download what they want and it will all be saved to the hard drive so they can access it from all the other accounts on the console. I'm pretty damn sure MS is aware of this so why would they ban people when they very well know 90% of the people know their way around it once they discover the problem. Microsoft and the government are huge idiots in this new law or whatever you call it, and I suggest they work something out fast.

Are they even working on it? I havent heard a single MS person say they are working on it. I think they're pretty happy just to leave it 'as is' as they're protected by their stupid terms of use. However, I'm pretty sure that the Consumer Guarantees Act overrrides everything...

Re: Microsoft is retarded.
Actually they are, I sent MS an email about it and I was given a link to the XBL status page http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/xboxstatus.aspx It says the status of the marketplace is Users may experience difficulties when attempting to use Marketplace and/or making purchases. We are aware of the problem and working to resolve the technical issues. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience. So they are apparently trying to fix the problem.

Yeah thats only because the guys at email support have no idea whats going on. I sent them 4 emails and got 4 different responses. They are working on resolving the other marketplace issues, but not the 80153065 issue. That's because its not a bug... microsoft actually chose to stop child accounts downloading. Read all the other posts if you want some clarification

Re: Microsoft is retarded.
Well since no one seems to know which mysterious government organisation approached MS I suggest doing two things, first contact Fair Go. While MS may not be in violation of any consumer gaurantees act the Fair Go team may actually be able to find out who is behind the mess and why.

Secondly, TV3's David Farrier seems to be a Gamer and Technophile so Contact him through the Website http://www.3news.co.nz/TVShows/Nightline/DavidFarriersPage/tabid/552/Default.aspx
And he may be able to find out something, he at least may do a peice on it for the news get something done about a fix in the meantime.

It's odd that this came from NZ authorities since usually it's the Aussies who over react and get games censored which are cleared for release here. Which means we get the hacked up Aussie versions because we are too small to warrant our own Uncensored versions.

Anyway good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to send a message off to David Farrier now... but I doubt he could really do much. I was thinking about Fair Go for a while...

Yeah thats a better idea. I rung microsoft again and they said they weren't 'allowed' to give any information about the 'law'. So as a citizen of a country, you arent allowed to know about the laws? WTF?

Argh this so stupid we are NZ citizens but like he said we can't even know the laws. It's such a load of crap! They say some stupid request has been made and they tell us nothing.. no names, no information.. a big fat NOTHING. when my gold runs out I certainly aren't wasting anymore of my money and time on xbox. What the hell did we do to deserve this? :(

Just to let you guys know - I received a call from Microsoft New Zealand about this late last week (when I wrote my previous post) - My son's account is affected, and I was asked some specific questions - It sounded like they were in the middle of a meeting about it, so yes they are working on it.

Possibly to put this in another light too - Imagine if you were a business, and something happened that meant your Customers were not able to spend their money with you, even when they wanted to - Do you think the business would look to respond? - So yeah - There will be a solution coming, and I expect it will not be too long.

Re: Current young people accouts downloading issues
Thanks for the unlock, I still think its best to keep it unlocked until the issue is actually resolved. Currently, microsoft says they will give a points transfer to an adult account. I'm really unsure whether to go ahead or not... considering some reports that microsoft might actually sort this out.

THANKYOU for unlocking this thread. Are they actually transferring over points? or are they just offering because they made this a permanent situation and just aren't telling us... I really hope they come up with some sort of positive (for us) 'outcome'

Re: Current young people accouts downloading issues
Can we please stop with these pointless posts, ring support about microsoft points transfer. Most of us dont want our point transfered we want our right to download content we are entitle back. Please only post with something helpful or an update on the situation not just more and more complaning. If someone looks at these forums all they see is complaining and not the important post. By the way, the forum was unlocked because me and some mates told teljam it was a silly idea to lock it, good on you teljam for listening.

Re: Current young people accouts downloading issues
There are plenty of important posts, you just have to read through the thread. People have a right to complain about this. Your post is as pointless as all the others you are complaining about. As I can see by your avatar you are not having this problem so why are you even posting here?

Re: Current young people accouts downloading issues
Does it really matter whether people complain or not? If it makes you feel better, then do it. People can still figure out whats going on. This is a difficult situation... but I think we all just want to be able to use our own accounts, not some crappy workaround. C'mon microsoft... could you give us some details? It's been a month already... we just want our content!
