My big question is how long does it normally take until the charge is refunded?

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
Ok it's October 1st and Last night I got the red ring of death and the E74 message. I've sent the email as the phone system is frankly worthless. So do I have to pay for shipping and is the extended warranty still in effect? How long will repairs take? Or basically, how long will I be without my Xbox 360?

Hey guys, there have been a stories recently about the E74 error message that I wanted to address. The team is aware that a very small percentage of our Xbox 360 customers have reported receiving an error that displays E74 on their screen and after investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console.  As such, we will be covering any repairs due to the E74 error message under the three year warranty we announced related to the three flashing lights error, as well as reimbursing any customers that have already paid for an E74 related repair.  This applies to new consoles for the original retail purchaser, whether purchased before or after this change.  You can read additional information on the warranty extension on the Xbox.com support site. Today’s announcement reaffirms our commitment to customers that we stand behind our products and deliver a great Xbox experience.

Thanks and I look forward to reading your comments on this issue.

yeah something needs to be done Im tired of having trouble with these things im on my second one in two years and it is showing the stupid E 74 error.....as much as i love xbox if you all cant get your stuff to work im just going to get a ps3 im not going to spend $300 or more a year for the consoles. hire people who know how to assemble things right ..

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
Yay I just got my E74 today on my xbox elite (THANK GOSH its still under warranty).. Wow I feel like Im part of something now, part of an upset community that seems to get more upset everytime a new problem is found on these systems. And, the part about it being a small percentage is too funny. Just check out youtube to see all of the neet little fixes people are coming up with to try to fix your problems, because you sold them a defective product that just happened to servive over the one year mark. I believe Microsoft needs to look very carefully at its flawed system, and any versions of the 360 in the future should be warrantied for 3 years. I just hope my Modern Warfare 2 system that Im getting in November isn't going to have these problems. or is it the same flawed system in a pretty shell with the 250gb hard drive?

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
My Zephyr-based Elite was shipped in for E74 repair several months ago. When it was returned it was the same console but the motherboard was replaced with a Falcon.  I was disappointed to not receive a Jasper but was not surprised. But then the Returned console overheated again.  This leaves me to wonder what exactly is done to repair an E74 and why some of us receive consoles that continue to be broken while others do not.  It's really quite frustrating!

Change can lead to something better or something worse. How you react to it makes it better or worse for you.

I wish they would have done this a year ago because I don't have a warranty and now instead of my xbox getting a ring my disc drive or whatever it's called is going bad.

I love a good sandbox game. I cant wait for BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams.

Halo 3: 1250g
King Kong: 1000g

This would have been great in Feb when my console died-if I did not buy a new arcade system instead of paying $100 to have MS fix something they broke. Still pisses me off to this day. I will laugh pretty hard in 10 years when everything is MAC.

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
Just Got back from Walmart to exchange the NEW XBOX 360 which gave us the 3 RRODs right out of the box.
Walmart is offering $100 gift card with Arcade purchase, so I decided it was time to sell my Elite version for parts on EBAY.  This after returning 4 TIMES!

I made sure that Arcade I bought had the 12.1 Amp rating and the 150 Watt power supply which should verify that it contains the new Jasper less power consuming/heat generating chip. Sure 'nough tho, upon getting it home a plugging it in 3 RED RINGS!!!!

OK out of the box failures are not heat related but... This experience does not give me a warm fuzzy that you guys (Microsoft) has got it right yet.

Anyway the second box is at least working for now and I will probably buy 2 year extended warranty for 20 bucks   to at least protect against other failures than the 3yr 3 ring MS is now honoring.

If something happens to this one though I am done done done. I hear PS3 knocking at my door!

Any if anyone's box is out of warranty and wants to try again, hurry down to Walmart and use that $100 gift card to put towards Christmas shopping. Your effective replacement cost is $99 less what ever you get on Ebay for you old console, for a BRAND NEW (not refurbished) console.

Just plug in your hard drive for you old PRO or Elite and away you go!!

Good luck!!

Last time XBOX consumer

PS: Try loading some of your older games that may have been damaged from your older Xbox's onto your older hard drive,  if they load on your new Arcade!! Beats the $20 replacement on-line swap program!

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
quick question for anyone willing to help.....

My manufacture date on the back of my xbox 360 is november of 2007....but when i filled out the repair request online it says "standard warranty expired."

How can it be expired if the warranty is 3 years for the RROD?

I ordered a shipping label, and it says the charge is $0.00, but yet it says the "standard warranty" is expired?  Is this normal for this to say that?

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
I take it your console is over a year old from when you purchased it?  The "standard warranty" should be the 1 year warranty every new 360 purchase comes with. The extended 3 red lights and E74 warranty is an exception to the normal 1 year warranty.

http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/hardware/warranty/warranty/ProductWarranty.aspx

If you click on View Warranty Status, it gives more details. From the repair site:

Standard warranty expired: A three-year warranty applies to Xbox 360 issues that are associated with three red lights. Please click Request a Repair to proceed.

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
I bought my XBOX back in 11/2005. In 11/2007 i got the flashing three rings. called XBOX and they sent out a shiping kit to send it in. Got it back about a month later and about three weeks later the three rings were back. Sent the unit in again on 12/2007 and this time they replaced it with a 2007 unit. now its 11/2009 and the three rings are back again but now im being told that i have to pay for the repair. Correct me if im wrong, But wasnt this three ring problem an issue from the beginning of the XBOX release and its still a problem today? So why would they charge me for a repair that is needed due there incompetence? i really hear PS3 knocking. Does anyone have any suggestions on who i need to write to try to get this problem corrected before i switch to PS3?
