Split-Screen Level is GONE!!
Yes, I am very sad to report that the split-screen level is gone.  I cleared level 256, and it takes you to the cherry level, although it plays just like a key level, ie. ghosts still don't turn blue.  You do however, still only get 100 points for a cherry.  To me this is a travesty. Yes, you could call it a glitch, but it is a classic glitch.  And, although unintentional, it provided game balance by  making pac-man a non-marathonable game.  Now there is no way to differentiate between somebody that gets a perfect on every level, and somebody that just played post-9th key longer.  I would love to see the gamemakers release a patch that adds the split-screen level back in.  Oh, and if you do make a patch, allow players to use the face buttons for control.

After the 255th level, Pac-Man locks up with an interesting split-screen effect. This lockup does not occur if, at the end of level 254, the number "255" appears at any point within your score

omg, this totally explains your score.  it was blowing my friggin mind becuase i knew the "perfect score" was only 333,330 and you were already past 3 times that amount.

Hehe, I don't think you are giving Billy Mitchell and the others that have reached the perfect score enough credit.  It is actually 3,333,360 (w/ 5 guys) or 3,333,180 (w/ 3 guys).  The difference is due to the fact that there are 9 dots (90 pts) that respawn when you die on the split screen level.  So with 2 extra guys you can get 180 more points!

ah ok, but still, in comparison to me, still a rediculous high score.  sorry about the mistake on the score.  i must have just glazed over the six or something, not sure.

Actually, this is one of the "urban myths" regarding the split screen.  Since there are not enough dots (even with the nine that regenerate with each turn) to trigger the completion of the level, there is no legitimate way past it.

Some players from the day used the rack test switch inside the arcade machine to flip past it.  Several had claimed scores of 8, 9, even 12 million - all of which were determined fraudulent.
