Re: The call for Shenmue
I still own my original copy of Shenmue II, but it would be great if it were made an Xbox Original. It would give many others who haven't played it the chance to see how great the series is (If MS managed to release the original somehow, that would be incredible!) and hopefully give Sega the reason to finally start on Shenmue III.

Re: The call for Shenmue

I completely agree.  The first Shenmue released on the Sega Dreamcast was an amzing game.  The next installment released on the original xbox was even better.  The fans (including me) are dieing for another sequel.  I like many of my fellow game players would be ver willing to shell out $60 or $70 for a new shenmue.  I just wish someone besides the fans would pressure sega to make another.  I think microsoft should do its part to try make its fans happy.  Even if it is a small percent (which I doubt it is) their main goal should be to make their custmomers happy.  So I ask xbox or any one involved to somehow get the wheels rolling.  Look for the petitions and the ideas do something to get involved and get SEGA to finish what they started.  Just remember supporters the noisy wheel gets the grease so keep on fighting!!

I already own Shenmue 2 but make it available on Xbox live and I'll download it straight away.
This is one of the greatest series of games ever, if only the 3rd episode were released..... Sad [:(]

Re: The call for Shenmue
I sent my latest round of emails out a little early due to a very busy Feb. ahead of me but this time sent off a special one to the Major (Nelson).

The story and universe of Shenmue is something so very special that it deserves all of the spare attention any of us can manage if that's what it takes to get some action/attention to either (or all preferablyBig Smile [:D] ) Shenmue to the arcade, Shenmue 2 to the originals, and some love to the idea - read creation- of Shenmue 3 as a premiere 360 title.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Wether it's just for the money or for the love of the fans there is absolutely no reason NOT to get going on this MS, even if you have to send the Major to Japan to talk some sense into a Sega rep. (Sense or beating them over the head, which ever will work best I'm completely okay withWink [;)] )

Just tried going back and playing Shenmue after reading this.  Please stop asking for this game:  It does not hold up well.  Seriously, after all this time reminiscing about how much fun I had with this game back in the day, it really kind of hurts to say that we really don't need a re-release of this.  Everything from the graphics to the controls just stink nowadays.  And please don't flame on me, I just really think some of you whom don't still have a DC and a copy of this game still know what you're asking for.  Apologies to those who still think this game is great.

Re: The call for Shenmue
Don't worry no flame'age from the likes of me Smile [:)] BUT much like the other originals and arcade titles there isn't exactly a one on one comparison going on with say, Fallout3 or GTA4 - epitomes of things possible on the 360 in its current state ( and I'm going to go on record as saying I still expect a few more leaps and bounds in this current gen as the ace developers out there master their kits to all new levels...but I digress ).

Now as for the most paired request along with the please re-release for download one the possibilities for a 360 number 3 in the series could (would) stand to be amazing. Before I finish though let me add as a reminder about those "classics of gaming" in Shenmue 1 and 2 not only for their release times were they astounding but they were also designed for use on the Dreamcast and I'm not sure if you remember but the DC controller is more a *** cousin of the N64 controller than a true relative of the XboX controller so the controls are yes, akward at times but when compared to the games as a whole most people who enjoyed them (like myself) saw way past some controller porting issues and had the time of their lives while playing.

My 2 (more) cents.

...didn't expect to get censored for bast   ard but I guess in hindsight it makes sense although my use of it in "bast     ard cousin"  for the record was no where close to insult usage and meant in its (in what I hope is obvious) more accurate usage in the familial sense.

Re: The call for Shenmue

This has to be one of the biggest message threads ive seen on these forums...

safe to say Shenmue 1 (at least right now) will never see the 360 XBLA Arcade style download....as it never came out for the Original XBOX in the 1st place..yeah then the arguement comes when some of the old Soul Calibur & REZ & Ikaugua titles came to XBLA, makes you say HMM Dreamcast ports making their way to XBLA??.....Shenmue did cross my mind it'd be cool if they did that. I had Shenmue 1 on my sega dreamcast played it twice...along with Resident Evil-Code Veronica..I did remember Shenmue 2 did come out for dreamcast but only in Japan...even though the ripped copies made their way here as well...ahh those wonderful dreamcast games that made their way to Original xbox...like Jet set Radio / dead or alive / the original Sega GT one of the Crazy Taxi series non BC mind you ..MSR Racer (Metropolis Street Racer) which became the Project Gotham series...still missing here was Shenmue 1...though Shenmue 2 came out for XBOX-1 and is BC on the 360..it was clear that some future & some direction was thought of for this series..seems that it never came to pass

With the backward compatability project on hiatus as they say (even though we know that means shelved XBOX!!) There cant be any excuse why Shenmue 2 isnt on XBOX originals for download..Its hard to comb stores for used copies let alone if they're not scratched up from useage, or going by a sellers word on ebay that the copy is mint..remember these games if you find them on cd gotta be clean and scratch free...remember xbox-1 titles on NXE dont give you the option to upload them to the drive..

I remember when XBOX originals came out i swore i'd never buy a single download as i knew right off the bat that I could find any of these games in the used racks in video game stores cheaper than the 1200point price..You guys were also releasing titles for DL that didnt grab my interest whatsoever!

Then ate my words a few months back when GTA: San Andreas hit the scene...It was good to see a title that im sure people were asking for to hit downloadable status..So much that I went on a mission and then obtained GTA:3 / GTA Vice City and Scarface ...my last PS2 holdout titles..I sold my old sega dreamcast on Ebay and parting with Shenmue hasnt escaped me.. I sold MY PS2 and the holdover weight on my shoulders that the Gran Theft Auto series was causing was lifted when i got those downloadable and BC CD games..I would like to do the same for Shenmue 2...see it as a downloadable..Or go to the drawing board fellas!!!and make a port of Shenmue 1 for downloadable on XBLA..

At this point it might be easier to add a title to the XBOX Originals section rather than make a port..otherwise its off to gamestop I go and Ebay for Shenmue 2..game on everyone...and thats my 2 cents on Shenmue

I think Shenmue holds up just fine. Sure, the controls aren't as slick as some of todays' games, but they're still good. Just takes some time to get the whole fps/madden/whatever controls out of your head and get into the Shenmue!

Seriously, I still play the old Sierra games for PC. Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, etc.. Many people would say 'that's crazy' to play those games but I will never stop.

Alot of games don't hold up well, but those are the games that were never really good to begin with. Good example: I recently played Boogerman for Genesis, a game I enjoyed when it was new; now, I found it to be the most horrible game I've played in ages. On the other hand, I also played 'Blackthorne, and it was still great!

If you're lucky enough to be able to play Shenmue, I say get playin!!

I re-bought an old dreamcast just so I could play through the first shenmue again. Shenmue II was kind of a snooze-fest in my opinion though. :p And there has been talks since the360's conception that a third would come out with 1 and 2 included. Guess it's never gonna happen. :/
