Unfortunatly that cannot happen. It would require a total re-programming of the game code. Orginals are just digital copies of the orginal disc. Hence why they too don't display full screen on HDTV televisions.

I have no desire for a download version of Shenmue 2, I have the xbox version and its backwards compatable. I am however in total support of Shenmue on the xbox live arcade.

Sorry mate, as a long time gamer dating back to the days when the newfangled thing known as the Nintendo Entertainment System - read Famicom- was hitting and seemed an 8bit pinnacle of technology and amazed my childhood eyes ... I've seen games come and go, sequels come and go, and sequels which seemed like they were hiding around a bend in the road that would just never come eventually come - sometimes YEARS later (and more often than not when an uprising of a few fans steamrolled into an ever growing number that eventually becomes downright impossible to ignore, amazing the power of math when you combine the wants and the needs of the many multilplied by your region of the worlds local currency).

Perhaps you should instead play games that you enjoy instead of raining on the parade of people trying to get to get a new Shenmue and the old ones put into digital glory on the LIVE network.

I really don't think spamming and flooding this thread will reach Microsoft and Sega, Sega has a official website and Shenmue has a official MS page. I actually Emailed Sega asking if there was any plans to continue the Shenmue Legacy and was told there has been no plans or nothing in the works. I want the game back just as bad as anyone else and if you look back you will see my post in this thread years ago. I honestly don't think this thread will bring Shenmue fans any progress, I have signed petitions and everything and while it seems like another Shenmue release is hopeless I do feel there is other ways the fans thoughts can be taken into consideration. Do you think Sega or Microsoft even cares to read these threads? Sure a developer here or there might have had a glimpse but I have seen this thread going for years.. it can go another 2-3 years I don't think it will make a difference with Sega and Microsoft.

I've seen your early support of the Shenmue cause as it were, all I'm saying is don't give up, and if you feel like all hope is lost better not to spread that and actually cause more harm to the fight which you had previously engaged in and instead find your peace elsewhere.

I too have been emailing Sega,MS, and the various Shenmue campaigns across the Internet and have gotten everything from no reply, to a generic reply, to one much like the one you quoted. Doesn't mean I give up or in fact stop with the support here via this thread or via those other formats which I had hoped was made clear in my analogy of a p.s. ... just because there isn't the response you want to the fight doesn't make the fight itself a bad thing.

In conclusion I have two points ...

a) If it were going to be easy and a few signatures over a few years were enough it would  have happened already ... as stated, doesn't make the cause itself hopeless just means it requires more work like so many things do that are considered "well worth it" be the people fighting for it.

b)Perhaps your definition of spamming is a wee bit different than mine but as a whole nothing about this thread has seemed spammed, spam like, or spam-ee. Sheer volume and size of interest about something doesn't corilate to the something be spam or not. The next time you go through your spam folder in whatever email client you use ask yourself how many of the items present in it are things you either really want, have need for, or "once" were wanting.

I seriously doubt you are the only one to feel a bit helpless about being ignored concerning something so important to us as gamers but if it was actually important to you as you claim it is by your still existing love and playtime for Shenmue 2 then it would seem you wouldn't want to do spread that feeling of hoplessness and actually cause harm to the very thing you were trying to help just a few hundred days ago. If it is truly hopeless than you have nothing to worry about and really have no place here in a thread dedicated to trying and bring back what is so special about the Shenmue series.

...and if you are wrong and eventually the masses prove UNignorable and Shenmue is reborn I will be the first to welcome you back to whatever thread is celebrating the release of the first two in the series into the LIVE and/or (hopefully I'm aiming for AND) the release of Shenmue 3 onto the 360.

'Till then...

Wow. Ignorance on a stick.

Shenmue Online was never finished, never released. Never on any shelves to be pulled off of. I love how buying a couple import games suddenly makes you an Asian tour guide. Also, the graphics in the few screens/videos released were awesome.

Shenmue Online (シェンムーオンライン「莎木OL」, Shenmū Onrain) is an MMORPG where players participate in scenarios from Shenmue II, joining one of three clans, led by Shen Hua, Xiu Ying, and Wu Ying Ren, all significant characters from the story.

[edit] Development

In 2004, Shenmue Online was announced to be development in joint venture between Sega Japan and JC Entertainment of Korea. Beta testing for the online system was due to start in early 2005.

However, in 2005, JC Entertainment pulled out of the development of Shenmue Online, and as they owned 50% of the properties of Shenmue Online, there was legal debate over who had the rights to the game. Fortunately, it is believed the argument was settled out of court.

In November 2005, it was confirmed in an Interview with Yu Suzuki that Shenmue Online was indeed in development in Taiwan, despite internet rumors and legal issues.

In July 2006, a new enhanced version of Sega's Shenmue Online has been shown, with a video that is just under 13 minutes long. It showed the game in action and some of the features that will be included in the game, including mini games, jobs and various other things. Sega also included a small plot spoiler. Direct feed of the July 2006 video

In September 2008, it was confirmed in a new Interview with Yu Suzuki that the game is not cancelled, but in standby due to a situation and may be categorized as "In Development". Despite internet rumors, Yu Suzuki is still an employee at Sega Corporation.

[edit] Gameplay

Quoted from an interpretation of Yu Suzuki's 2005-11-05 interview:

Players will join one of three clans, led by Sha Hua, Xiu Ying and Wu Ying, and go through the story by completing tasks given by the leaders. Of course, during the course of the story, each clan will interact with one another in both friendly and hostile situations. Lan Di and Ryo will definitely make appearances in those situations as well.

Yu states that even though the Korean company JCE had announced their withdrawal from development, since Shenmue Online is a Sega venture, they will fulfil their duty of completing it. Yu says despite the internet rumours, development is well on its way and following their original goals and target. He adds that Sega Sammy will make an official announcement about its progress in the future.

When asked about the various activities possible in Shenmue II and whether they will make it into Shenmue Online, Yu says that the arcade games will definitely make it in, and 2/3rds of the things like working, collecting capsule toys, etc, from Shenmue II will make it into Shenmue Online, along with much more contents exclusive to Shenmue Online. Yu adds that the game will take place not only in Hong Kong and China, but Macau as well, Yu smiled when he was asked what players will be able to do in Macao.

Yu says that QTE's will make it into Shenmue Online; but conceptually, it is impossible to implement the exact same kind of QTE into an online game. So in Shenmue Online, QTE's will be something geared towards an online MMO game, but since the implementation haven't been finalized yet, he can't go into specifics.

Yu states that Shenmue's world is very suitable for online play. Shenmue Online's world will be much bigger than the home versions thus far, including over 1200 buildings/locations, and it will be possible for each player to have his or her own house. Yu adds that he has always been very fond of Chinese culture, so he is very happy that Shenmue is liked by the Chinese gamers. This is why he is making this game for the Chinese market. But from a game perspective, Shenmue Online will include many things that all gamers will be able to enjoy.

[edit] Graphical upgrades during development

When Shenmue Online was first announced, under the development of JC Entertainment, the screenshots released were considered by many Shenmue fans to be disappointing graphically, especially as being part of a game series that boasted ground-breaking graphics on the Sega Dreamcast.

However, new screens released in 2005, with the development under the guise of a new company, show marked graphical improvements.

In 2006, 6 new screens from the gameplay along with a 14 minute video were released to the public during the 4th China Expo. These shots showed further improvement on graphical issues, comparing the graphics to other MMOs and even home versions of Shenmue.

Now please, please, just shut up. You're just digging a deeper hole for yourself.

If you had the slightest bit of sense, you would've looked it up yourself, before telling anybody else to.

Now let's get back to the topic at hand...

Re: The call for Shenmue
Nimrod the Beta still came in 05 it just didn't last long you are only posting what I already said. If you read you would see I said the beta was tested but pulled back shortly after. How do you think videos are on youtube if a Beta copy wasn't played? a Beta copy was available didn't last long! I read that years ago. A beta was available in 05 it just didn't last long or work out. I see you are too slow to comprehend.

How could a beta, that was never released, flop?

Since you're illiterate, as well as ignorant, I'm done talking to you. You're not going to trick me into getting the thread locked, just because you're too hard-headed, and/or too proud to admit you've been pwned.

Private Beta took place.. Meaning if you was one of the lucky members who got picked from signing up you got to check it out... the Beta was just never released to the whole public and flopped shorty after the private beta keys were given out. http://pc.ign.com/articles/535/535405p1.html There's the proof Nimrod. Lol if you think copying and pasting something I basically am trying to tell you is owning somebody you really need friends and a life. Private Beta test took place it just never got to the stages of being a open Beta.

Yes, because an article written in 2004 telling us what they intend to do is proof of what happened thereafter.

I'm really done with you now. Keep reaching all you want. You're just proving my point.

Re: The call for Shenmue
Lol dude several lucky Shenmue fans got to play the private Beta I know it died in 05!! what you posted I was already saying I was saying a beta was released but didn't last long it was very brief cause some of the developers couldn't agree on things and the fans were actually disappointed in the graphics. It had buzz for a few months but didn't even last a half a year. You just wasn't trying to listen I see now that's ignorant... there's screens there in the link from the beta. The game was just about done but things didn't work out in shenmue fans favor.
