Achievement Difficulty - 7
With a little bit of practice this is an easy achievement game with the exception of the "Perfection" achievement.

GENERAL TIPS

- Keep turning and shooting, this will help maintain a clear screen.
- Mainly watch for the gunfire, all other dangers make rather audible noises to alert you.
- As in real flight games, it's dangerous to go straight at a target.
- Achievements are possible in co-op but i feel due to lag that makes it harder.
- Many people prefer the classic graphics to the enhanced and feel that it makes the game slightly easier.
- If things move off the screen they disappear, it's an easy way to get rid of missiles and such.

EASY ACHIEVEMENTS (80 Points)

Reach 1940 (15 Points)
Official Description - Complete 1920, making it through to 1940
My Description - Beat Level 1

Bomber Hunter (15 Points)
Official - Shoot down 4 bomber planes in 1940.
My Description - In level 2 shoot down 4 bombers.
Tip - Go straight at the bombers and curl around to follow them. If they still aren't dead by the time you get on their tail, lay into the attack button quickly.

Rescue Mission (15 Points)
Official - Rescue 10 parachuters in one game.
Tip - Fly horizontally immediately at the beginning of lvl 1. You will need to dodge the occasional bullet and incoming enemy, but you're left with an easy (read boring) way of picking up 10 parachuters.

Reach 1970 (15 Points)
Official - Complete 1940, making it through to 1970.
My Description - Beat lvl 2.

Formation Buster (10 Points)
Official - Shoot down all the planes from a single formation 3 times in one game.
My Description - Shoot all planes that enter at the same time by about lvl 3 you will eventually destroy the entire formation 3 times.

Missile Attack 1 (10 Points)
Official - Shoot down 10 bombs in 1910.
Tip - Use the Rescue Mission tip. Continue horizontally and move down when a bomb gets shot at you from behind. After destroying the bomb continue in the same direction you were going. Occasionally, you will have to destroy (or evade) bombs coming straight at you.

INTERMEDIATE ACHIEVEMENTS (50 points)

Smooth Operator (15 Points)
Official - Reach 1940 without losing a life.
My Description - Beat lvl 1 without dying.

Missile Attack 2 (15 Points)
Official - Shoot down 20 homing missiles in 1970.
Tip - Mainly only shoot homing missiles, and don't go in a straight line for to long. Straight lines make it easier for the homing missile to hit you. If the missile is coming from behind, it is easier to let the missile shoot around you than to turn to face it.

Reach 1982 (20 Points)
Official - Complete 1970, making it through to 1982.
My Description - Beat lvl 3.

ADVANCED ACHIEVEMENTS (50 points)

Reach 2001 (20 points)
Official - Complete 1982, making it through to 2001.
My Description - Beat lvl 4.

Complete 2001 (30 points)
Official - Complete 2001.
My Description - Beat lvl 5.

THROW THE CONTROLLER DIFFICULT ACHIEVEMENTS (20 points)

Perfection (20 points)
Official - Reach 2001 without losing a life.
My Description - Beat lvls 1-4 without dying.

Great guide great tips! I agree Missle Attack 2 was much easier. In the first mission you only have a few seconds to shoot the missle.

yeah, i actually got the missile attack 2 before missile attack 1; however, if you just go horizontally i had no trouble what so ever getting 10. Deviate course only for oncoming planes and bullets. When you hear the noise of the bomb, turn down a bit and shoot it.

Yep, I also got Missile Attack 2 first. I'm really having trouble with Missile Attack 1 and Rescue Mission, so this guide will be a big help. Thanks!

360 finally back!

May I ask, the strategy is to get as many points shooting the planes, parachutes ... etc or to travel further away from the starting point ?

I mean if you stay at almost the same point just shooting what comes at you, will you reach another year ? Or do you need to get a certain number of points before the year changes ?

Yeah, if you shoot the planes you will likely beat the level before you get close to shooting enough missiles or picking up enough parachuters.  The only time when this isn't true is the bombers x 4 achievement.

Good guide, maybe this will be the first arcade game that I get 200/200 in.

I'm still having trouble beating 1982. The only way I can is if I turn the lives up to 5 to start, and that doesn't count.

 

1982 seems so much harder because the machine gun and missile fire is more irregular than in any other level. Any tips on beating 1982?

i just fly around in crazy circles and shoot the sh*t out of everything, i got perfection thinking i needed to survive the whole game-would have been near impossible

but yeah, only fly in straight lines to draw out more enemies, then just circle and don't stop shooting

Edit: the only way I've beaten 2k1 was with classic gfx

For 1982 (i had a lot of practice on it trying to get that perfection achievement) I learned to never allow a jet to come too close. If you see 'em nearing you, beat 'em to the punch and do relatively tight circles to make them eventually get off your tail.

YOU'VE BEEN BOOTLEGGED

The enemy jets on level four and the missiles on level three and four will catch up to you if you let them follow you long enough. You should always do a "U" turn in that case and then simply blow them out of the sky.

Ugh. I always have trouble beating 1982. No matter how many lives I save up until that level, I usually squander all of them and never finish the level. The planes/bombs seem to move erratically and spinning around doesn't help. Any tips?

Shoot down enemy aircraft and the bar on the lower left corner shrinks. Kill as many as it takes to make the bar completely disappear than the boss will arrive. Destroy the boss to get to the next time era.
