Sega GT on the Xbox360 - First Impressions
I must say that I am both pleased that Sega GT was supported on the Xbox 360 and a little disappointed in the execution.  This is one of my favorite games on the Xbox, and I have been looking forward to seeing it running on the 360.  It is playable, but the original Xbox is still the best way to play Sega GT.

First, the good: the game looks really good (for its age) on the 360.  It runs in 16x9 with the gauges placed well, and the models are clean (with one exception: see below).  It is pretty obvious that it is rendered at the same low resolution as always, but the anti-aliasing helps smooth out the jaggies.  The net result is that the entire game looks very soft, but I believe that it looks better.  The audio holds up well, with only occassional buzzing in the high-end.  (This buzzing is prevalent in the emulated games.)

The bad: The framerate can dip pretty badly, especially with a number of cars on-screen.  There are also a couple of spots in environments that bog the game down.  It can be a real pain to turn a corner and have the game enter bullet time.  The player car will sporadically "blink" out of existence and back.  It is as though the polygons are simply not rendered for a second or two.  This happens about 3-4 times in a race.

I am a realist.  Sega GT is not a high-priority title for the emulator team to work on.  I am confident that the emulator core will be updated frequently, and that these updates will benefit Sega GT.  A frameskip option would really enhance the sense of speed in this game.  On the upside, it has never looked better.  I can't wait to see what the future updates will do for Sega GT.

Dammit. I have just ordered it too, as I used to really enjoy playing it on the original xbox. I hope it's not too bad otherwise that will have been the worst £6 I ever spent lol.

I liked your reference to bullet time lol, what a good way of describing that phenomenon :)

he's talking about the old sega gt.gt online does not work!on the 360.

and who's gonna play it on a 360 anyways?from what i saw yesterday.the comps are over.WTF are my overalls and airplane?we had like 10 evo comps i already had.but missed out on two goods that came around once?you suck!and i'm not pleased.

damn i forgot about the overalls and the plane, what else.... the teddy bear, too. haha

yeah i kinda sucks we couldn't get it all. I am interested in seeing it on the 360 just for the sake of it being played once more.

all those parts and no one to race.

I've been getting my fill of Initial D stage 3 (the sitdown arcade game) has anyone seen it ?

i play it hear at a local anime shop
