Re: no video but i have audio
I lost my video as well, about a month ago.  My 360 was manufactured on 12/05.  Had no problems with it except the "dirty disc" error when playing rainbow six vegas.  I was playing one of the arcade games and my screen started to have a yellow tint.  It went away after about 10 mintues.  Next night I played rainbow six and the screen was yellow all night, even through powering down the system.  I tried to turn it on the night after that and I had no video.  Like the rest of you, I have tried everything xbox has offered for suggestions.  I had no idea there were so many people with this problem.  There are other message boards from different websites where people are posting this problem too.  Makes you wonder how many systems are like this because we are only aware of the users who post about it.

Re: no video but i have audio
sorry for the double post but this is looking like a definite hardware problem..
It has nothing to do with the av cables and i hope microsoft realizes this and does something about it.

Re: no video but i have audio
I bought my console towards the end of June 2006. Last week I was using the Media Center and it worked fine. The next day I was going to play a video game and got the black screen with only audio. i never played Forza nor GOW so i don't think it was an update failure. I've bought 2 new sets of wires and tried those, tried 4 different Televisions ( 2 HD, 2 reg. AV) and still get the same result ... except with the regular televisions showed white dots moving on the screen.

Re: no video but i have audio
I am having the same exact problem. My Xbox (purchased on Launch day) exprienced yellow discoloration, and then later, I started getting the unfortunate Black Screen with white dots. I don't think it has anything to do with a certain game (ex. Forza 2), because although I own Forza 2, this problem, for me, started while playing Halo 2. I seriously think that it has something to do with the video cards dying out. Maybe the video cards in the 360 don't last too long. I don't know. But, I think this is a problem definately worthy of a free repair. Since the 3 Year Warranty is for everyone, why not just add this problem into it?

Restarting does not work anymore. I have called xbox support and they are sending me the repair box. The tech had not heard of this problem. They must be getting lots of calls about this though.

How much do you have to pay? And how long did it take for you to get through to Customer Service?

Re: no video but i have audio
This is the fourth time I've tried. I hung up the previous times after about 15 minutes because I just didn't have time. Tonight I could have waited and, ironicaly, they answered right away. My box is still under warrenty (purchased in late September 2006). He did not say anything about cost, and I didn't bring it up. Sounds like others are being told the reduced price of $99.00 if out of warrenty. They said 4 to 6 weeks turn around time.

Re: no video but i have audio

Same thing just happened to me. This is my second refurb and have only had it for about 2 months. Worked great up to today, but then while playing "Dirt" earlier, screen started getting goofy, so I shut it off. Turned it back on and screen was purple. Tried again and no screen only sound. I guess its time to once again call MS to get a different POS refurb to be sent to me.

I got my coffin and sent it back today.  Funny thing is the tracking number looks like it was used before, for a delivery to the same MS address in McAllen in April.

I don't believe that they haven't heard of this before.  The guy at the UPS store said "Oh, another Xbox," when I walked in.  He said unprompted "we've seen hundreds of these things."  That's at ONE UPS store in Lenexa, Kansas.

You can add me to the list.  No video, but have the audio.  I bought new cables and still didn't do anything.  For the HD cables - my screen is just black, but for standard cables I get the dots.  I'm digging up my receipt and warrentee!

Re: no video but i have audio
This just happened to me as well.  The video went out first, followed by the audio.  I called up support and was told it would take 99 bucks to get it fixed.  My manufacture date is also May 2006.  All of them going out at about the same time sounds like a general hardwared failure to me, which the 3 lights are supposed to indicate.  But since we were (un)lucky enough not to see the RROD, we are screwed and get to shell out $99.  Thanks for inferior hardware and support Microsoft.

Re: no video but i have audio

Mine did the same thing after the Gears of War Update.  Last time I played it was the Friday before Father's Day.  That was on June 15th.  Last time I played Gears.  I got my box several days later.  Thing is though that was almost a month ago.  I called them a couple of days ago, and they still haven't even had time to look at it.  This problem has happened to a lot of folks recently.  Mine was a launch console.  So no doubt I will have to pay cash to get it fixed.  They quoted me $140 before the warranty change.  Let me run down some negatives.

Negatives:

  • $140 Repair (for something I didn't break)  If I broke it myself I wouldn't mind paying.
  • Waiting prolly a month and a half to get console back could be 2 months.
  • Most likely getting a refurb back anyway?
  • No compensation for Xbox Live they need to give me 2 months worth of Live access.
  • If I get refurb I will have DRM strife not being able to play games offline.
  • This sucks

Postives:

  • Playing City of Heroes/Villians on the Internet is fun!

LoL, Guys, I put my Xbox in the fridge for an hour (to cool it off), and guess what? My Xbox came back on! I know, It's not going to last, but at least I can play for probably 2 hrs. I'm also NEN0BR0WN btw. *EDIT:* Scratch that.. still doesn't work, LOL. This is pathetic...

Re: no video but i have audio
I think mine is in the first stage of this problem, im getting like a pixelated color change, graphics look like crap, then it may go back to normal HD.  Also getting the horizontal distorted lines.  Mine is a launch console, this is first problem ive had with mine.  Does anyone know if this eventually will go to RROD or will the screen just go black?  Also I've just played Forza 2 mainly for the past month.

Re: no video but i have audio
Previously I had stated that I was having this problem and that I called it in and was told they would send me a new AV cable.

Cable arrived to day, I hooked the xbox up, played crackdown for 35 seconds and the screen once again went black (with the helpful background audio).  It's actually worse now, I can't get any signal other that white (or sometimes purple) lines.

They are sending me a coffin, but the nice customer service people said they hadn't heard this was an issue.

I told her she better yell at her bosses cause there was a fairly big thread on it in the messageboards.

I'm still under warranty (bought it in September of last year) but I feel for anyone who isn't.  This is obviously a widespread issue.

I can't believe microsoft has been silent on it for so long.

Re: no video but i have audio

Yesterday afternoon my 360 starting having problems displaying colour while playing Oblivion. This was followed by a black screen but no RROD. After cooling off for an hour I started it up and played some Oblivion, DIRT demo and Forza 2 demo. Through it all the colour was whacked with some pixelation and false contouring. Today the 360 only has audio and no picture at all.

I have the standard video, S-video and VGA cables. I can't raise video on any of them. So it seems the GPU is toast.

I guess I'll be calling MS soon.

Re: no video but i have audio
This is getting ridiculous. Had the same thing happen to me THE DAY BEFORE the Halo 3 Beta. Imagine my surprise Super Angry [8o|]. My 360, however, can still function when using the composite video setting. I get the no video only audio problem when I switch to HD, and I've tested everything there is to test to be sure that it is simply the 360's problem and not a cable or TV. Is there really nothing we can do other than pay $100 for giving Microsoft $400 a year ago? Do they test the 360 when you send it in, or do they simply send you a refurb? If it's the latter, could you not just tell them that you're getting the red lights and pay nothing? Just a thought, any input?

Re: no video but i have audio
Thought I'd post an update.  I called the support line with this problem yesterday, hoping I'd be covered under the extended warranty, I wasn't.  I let my 360 run for a few hours with my no audio and no video hoping (praying really) that maybe it would just fix itself, lol.  I turned it off before I went to bed.  I turned it on this morning and....3 red lights.  Now, they already have my info from yesterday with a note I needed a repair, so this will probably be a huge PITA.  Wish me luck! @_@

of course Microsoft is being silent about this issue...they are makiing money hand over fist with the refurb's they are sending out...not to mention all the xbox live time we are paying for and not using. Well i just bought WoW, its only $24.95 so that should keep me entertained...ahah AT LEAST ITS NOT SEPTEMBER RIGHT NOW!

Re: no video but i have audio
Well, I contacted support yesterday and am getting this problem fixed free of charge, despite my console being out of warranty.  I told them that I had experienced the red ring of death about a month ago (true) but that a restart of my console had made it go away (also true).  Upon my asking whether this would be covered by the extended warranty, the rep replied yes at which point I reiterated the fact that my console was fine after the rrod reboot.  This appeared not to have an impact as they are still agreeing to fix it free.  I suppose this means that if you have ever experienced the ring, then you should be covered irrespective of how fleeting the incident may have been.  Now it's just a waiting game for the coffin/transit/repair/return.  Who knows how long that'll be, but at least I get to keep my money.  When I get it back I may just trade it in towards an elite; God knows they've had ample time to address these problems by now.

Happened to me today....I have the best buy warranty but they are sold out...also, i am worried this problem is attached to the hard drive meaning it will happen again when I get a new X360 (BB lets you keep your original hard drive).
