Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I have just encoutnerd a similar problem. i just started my X-box up and the dashboard went all weird. it looked kinda like rippples in water. so i shut off my console and when i turn it back on theres no video input. the sound however works just fine. i had a friend come over and i tried useing his video cord, but that however did not work either. thing thing is my 360 will be 4 years  old in April, and has only had RRoD once, and that was just my hard drive overheating. that happend about a month ago.  my warrenty has expired and although i'm thinking of sending it in i can't help but wonder if it would be cheaper just to buy a new x-box.

Add my console to the list. I've had the console since launch and never had a single problem, untill last week, when I was playing COD 4 all of a sudden the colors went all weird. Restarted the console and there was no more video but still sound. :(

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I have the same problem,  My screen would turn green while playing COD4.  Sometimes the entire screen would look like night vision then other times just the shadows. It would start and stop randomly.  I put in Halo 3 and had the same thing then put in a movie dvd and had the green cast.  Of course I checked the cable connections, switched cables from component to svideo and it made no difference.  The next morning I tried turning it on and heard sound but had no video with exception of a grey pattern of dots moving diagonlally down the screen.  This happened a few days before Christmas and Santa (my wife) got me Rock Band but havent been able to play it.  Thanks Microsoft for ruining my christmas!!! I wish I would have gotten a Wii instead!

I got the same problem but I never played COD4 so I think it's a hardware problem.

Iv'e replied in this forum once already, my 360 is toast. Same issue as everyone else.

There has to be some way we can get this problem out to different important places and get MS to stand up and be counted. The quality of product is just absolute tosh....

From a very angry customer feeling like a total mug...

Mine is shot too. This is definitely not an isolated incident. This should be covered under and extended warrenty too.

If that wasn't enough now I have a new problem. I started this thread last night and am waiting for some advice:

I called Microsoft to have my 360 repaired. On Dec. 5 my card was charged the $99(not a ring of death instance). I waited 10 days and no box so I called MS and they said they were having problems with their system so they started a new repair order. Waited 7 days and nothing, called a third time and got the same excuse but this time I was on the phone for 55 minutes (3/4 of which I was on hold). This is crazy, what can I do? How can I contact the higher ups? I spoke to a "supervisor" and that didn't help. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

Towel Trick FTW !!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same issue [no video but working sound] and I was willing to do anything to try and get it fixed. As crazy as it is, I tried the infamous towel trick and as if by miracle, my xbox is putting out video again. I don't know if it will work for any of you but it's definitely worth a shot.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Add my 360 to the list.

Yep this started happening after i began playing my Halo 3 limited collecters tin edition and about after 2 days of play the screens colour went all retarded but the picture was fine. (Colours were like green, pink etc) So i just ignored it for awhile and then i turned of my t.v and 360 off and on again so it was fixed for about 15 seconds and then went back to the colourful display of green and pink so after finishing the game, i began playing on live and it rarely came out but when it changed, i turned it off and stuff and pulled out the cables from the tv and back in and after doing this for about 5 times, it just went blank and i couldn't get the picture back. So after about 3 months of wasting my money on xbox live trying to get video back on, i eventually bought a new normal tv cable from the offical microsoft brand at eb games for $39 aus, and too my suprise, still didn't work and i litterally just exploded like a nuclear bomb and was thinking of breaking my 360. -.-

Ok im going to call customer support or whatever tommorow and I hope they are decently helpful and might let me get my 360 repaired for free or get me a new one! :)

P.S Microsofts owner is one of the richest men in the world and he is making us loyal customers pay to repair a problem that the makers of xbox created? :(

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Never posted here before, this is my first issue with the unit.

Started last night.  Sound.  No Video, no warnings.

Was playing halo 3, shut it down, ate dinner, came back No video.

Nothing was changed, hardware or config wise.

Tried the unit on every tv in the house; I hear the start up music. Just no video.

Add me to this list, what ever it is. /sigh

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I think this all has to do with the new fall update (I've never played COD4).  I've never had any problems with my 360 before this, and I take good care of my 360 and my games - everything's still mint.  I wish they would fix it somehow, I don't wanna send it in to be repaired (and not at my own cost).  Plus they better not say it's just wear and tear, because I play only like once every 2 or so weeks, and my games are practically brand new.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I am having the same problem.  I just got the red ring of death and sent in my first console, which was a launch console, and I got a new one back on the 27th.  It worked fine but 2 days later I am getting sound but no picture.  the component doesnt seem to work at all, but when i plug in the yellow composite video cable I get a slight static snow effect.  It has now been over a month since ive had a functioning xbox i am really getting sick of it.  luckily i have a ps3 to keep me busy.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Well, this morning I was playing CoD4 and then after about 1 match I get into another one, then the graphics look like some water painting, I've seen this before but in about 30sec it'd be back to what its suppose to be like, but this time I didnt, so I went to dashboard and it was still like the water painting, turn my 360 off then now it has no video output and i dont know what to do. Could it be I have a bad video cable? or could it be that I have to send it to MS?

I also had the ring of death, sent it in and they sent a new one back to me. Then not long after this problem occured and I have sound but no video. This is pretty rediculous.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Mine just went belly up after being half way through Sunshine of Your Love on GH3. I was doing great too...and all of a sudden nothing but a static filled image filled my TV screen ...then nothing but a vast picture of nothingness. Next thing you know the red rings of death. My box is an original from November 2005 and I NEVER had  a problem before. I then decided to call MS Support (New Dehli branch) and waited for 40 minutes to speak with "Jenny". Jenny told me in not very clear terms since she was just learing how to speak english, that I would have to pay $99 if I could not consistently get the red rings to display...which I though was BS. Anyway, I wasn't going to pay money for a system which through no fault of my own crapped out on me. I then figured if I couldn't get the red rings to appear constantly, I would just wait until the thing was good and broken, So I continued to fire up the system, only to have it choke and freeze on the flashy XBOX 360 bootup screen within 10 seconds of powering the system on. How frustrating...the red rings would not reappear. Well good things come to those who wait and after powering up enough times, I can consistently get the red rings...yippee! So I called up XBOX-Mumbai (last stop on the Amazing Race, so I'm familar with the setting Wink [;)])...and this time got to talk with "Michelle" after waiting on hold for 38 minutes (I will now be humming that damn Halo song in my sleep). Michelle spoke somewhat clearer english than the last helper so I only had to ask for clarifacation about 4 times. Anyhow, after explaining all the problems with her, she apologized for all the problems and would make me feel a little better by giving me a one month subscription to XBOX Live (that will do me a lot of good!). She then assured me that I would receive a box from either FedEx or UPS within 3-5 business days (I won't hold my breath...India is a long way to see What Brown Can do for You!) for shipping my brick to the XBOX service center. How frustrating...well at least the Wii is very reliable...and that sucker stays on 24 hours a day with WiiConnect. Will keep updating as the story unfolds!

Happy New Year all!Big Smile [:D]

I was playing NFS Carbon when my color just warped to this greenish-blue color.  I restarted, and that worked for all of 5 seconds.  Hasn't gone black on me yet, but I'm expecting it.  Like 3 out of 5 of the dashboard blades are half green and on the other two, the adds are green.  Just thought I'd add my tag to the list.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I sent my 360 in with a similar problem. I got the checkerboard pattern when I was playing COD4 a couple weeks ago and then all the graphics in my games were all jacked up. I put in Halo 3, FEAR, COD3 and everything else I own and noticed problems "graphicly" in all of them. Everytime I put in a DVD, Xbox game or 360 game I got the video checkerboard multicolored distortion. I sent it in for repaires and got my new (refurb) back today and put COD4 in and low and behold about an hour later it happened again :-( I don't know what it is all I know is the games don't look the same, shadows and textures just seem to not load properly. I'm going to call again and maybe get some new HD cables and see if that effects it, but I'm going to assume it's a GPU problem. I'm happy that my warrenty is still covered for I originaly had an RROD but it's a bummer for those of you that don't.

It looks like I'm in the same boat as the rest of you. My son was playing 360 pretty much all day until about 30 minutes till midnight (NEW YEAR). Came back @ 1am And got a checker board affect on my screen. Not forgetting to mention it froze. So I turned it off and on and got these infamous three red lights. I'm starting to wonder if this a coinsidense or conspiracy. GOT VIRUS???  Hey and let me in on this towel situation.

You take off any cooling devices such as the Intercooler, wrap your 360 in towels so it is completely covered, switch the 360 on and leave it for 20 mins until its nearly burning the house down with the heat. You then switch off the console, unrwap the towels and switch it back on.

I wouldn't recommend it but will probably try it sometime if it craps up on me.

If you do try this, make sure you stay with the 360 and make sure there is a window nearby to throw it out when it bursts into flames lol

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

I just started getting a video issue last night and was directed to this forum by another player.

Background: The console I own is an Elite that I purchased on 5/07 I am running the HDMI outs to a DLP in 1080p mode. It is standing upright in a well ventilated area and I make sure that the vents don't get dusty.

I started seeing an image with black pixels all over the screen while playing COD4. This may just be a coincidence because I play COD4 all the time. The only way I can describe the image is to picture looking out a window screen. I would only see this while playing the game, not in the menu. Even then it wouldn't always happen. I started trouble shooting the problems by trying different games. I see the black pixels on all the games and occationaly on the main xbox menu. Just so no one goes out and buys more cables, this is not a AV cable issue. It has been stated in many other post that just like in my case, swapping out the cables does not fix this issue. I am contacting customer support this morning and will update what happens. Did anyone have to send in their hard drive when they returned their xbox for repair?
