What a depressing thread. ![Sad [:(]](/emoticons/emotion-6.gif)
I already had a 360 with a defective drive, which actually CRACKED a $60 dollar copy of Skate before the 360 got RROD (this 360 was vertical).
My replacement (this one horizontal) was working fine, very quiet DVD drive, until I was playing Crackdown one evening. All of the sudden it started making loud noises... almost like it was skipping or something. It never locked up on me, but I did turn it off about 10 minutes after the noises began. I brushed it off as some random thing and thought nothing of it.
Now I have tried 4 different games and the drive always makes this loud skipping sound. No lockups, however. I inspected the DVD drive and noticed the disc tray is now wobbly - like a *** (lol it bleeped out the word s. cre .w) that was holding it rigid came out of something. I distinctly remember feeling how rigid/sturdy my new replacement 360's DVD drive was, because I abolsutely hated my first 360's drive (it used to not open, be wobbly, and make randomly odd noises).
So, my fellow victims of Microsoft's greed, what do you think? I know this replacement is still under warranty, do you think I should call tech support? I don't have any evidence that it will lock up games or scratch discs, but I do not want to risk another $60 game!
