Re: Old gamers

Heck I'm 43! I was into gaming when the Atari was popular, and then lost the interest for many years. Then...HALO2 came out.... I couldn't figure out all those buttons, or controls for nothin'! A friend handed me his controller and said "here... give it a try"  needless to say it took plenty of games before I could figure out how to get any kills without dying in the attempt. I was so embarrased. He said " here... let's try this..." as he changed the setting from default to "Boxer" and turned off inversion. After a few minutes of trying these new settings, and walking around in circles looking at the floor, and then the ceiling a few times, I started to "get it". I was able to actually win some battles! I go hooked! I went out and bought my first XBox console and a copy of Halo2. I joined a few online clans, and had a blast! Although the hobby is an expensive one, (and which one's aren't?) I was finding alot of benifits! Faster reflexes, better coordination, my fingers move faster now too! lol
Well....here I am a few years later, running an online gaming community of my own. "NCH".
Who says you're too old to have fun? Meeting other "older" gamers is a BLAST TOO!
At NCH Gaming, we HATE cheaters, whiners, and screaming little brats! Most of our members are in their late teens, to early 20's, but the ADULTS are ALWAYS welcome and HIGHLY ENCOURAGED! If you believe the game should be played AS IT IS, without "mods" "cheats" or "glitches" and can't stand those cheating little modders... the NCH is for you!
Come join us, get signed up, and put out a post looking for people in your age range, and have fun on a mutually intelligent level. And...Get in on the FUN! www.nchgaming.com
We're a friendly group, out here nightly, and looking for YOU... Join us...or die like the rest!

I'm 30--but I feel like I'm going on 60.

My knees, hips, and ankle crack and pop with nearly every step. I complain about "kids these days", always telling my son to "turn it down", and watch out my front window at the kids standing on my lawn, ocassionaly yelling our "get off my lawn". I also drive with my blinker on for miles. I'm also the neighbor that call the cops on the noisy parties, because "decent people are trying to sleep"

But I still love my video games! Been playing since the very early 80's, and have no plans to stop now.

I am 33, and it seems that in most of the game forums I have ever been a part of, I am the old man. So its very cool to see many older than me. :)

I started gaming when I was around 6 or so, first system was a magnavox odyssey 2.

I'll join the "Get off my Lawn" group, but mine is a porch with random kids sitting on it and I am quite OK with telling them to leave.  They're bugging me, and my dog.  It is only acceptable if one of my kids are hanging out there with them, if not, go to your own porch!!!!  Stick out tongue [:P]  I'm 31.  Not really old in here, but I work with all 20-somethings which makes me feel old.

I've played games my whole life and love it.  I'm part of a family of gamers, but I'm the worse by far. We are a multi-console family as it is easier to play co-op when you aren't sharing a TV.

I'm 60.  Probably one of the oldest people on the forums.  I've been playing games for 30+ years.  Got my first 360 in 7-06 and have loved every minute of it.  Well, maybe not EVERY minute.

And I have that "get off my lawn" as my avatars saying, since it fits now.
Why does sitting around make you more tired?

I'm a 34 year old gamer with two little sons.  I've been gaming since the intellivision days.  I play all types of games and have really been enjoying shooters on-line lately.  Looking forward to MW2 and Forza 3.

Re: Old gamers
I thought I would tag in here too.  I just turned 48 this year.  I have been playing video games since there were video games.  I fed many a quarter into the Pong machine at the local Goofy Golf in Florida.

My first computer was an Altair 8800 I hand built myself.  I owned a TRS-80, C64 and an Atari 2600, when they were all NEW.  I wrote and sold my first piece of software when I was in the 10th grade, a hurricane tracking program for the TRS-80 and I got royalties from the local Radio Shacks who included it in new computer sales.  My first hard drive was 5mb and weighed 50lbs and was the size of a desk top computer case is now.  My first printer was an old scavanged teletype.  I remember out typing a 300 baud modem.  I participated in Fido BBS networks.  I know Al Gore didn't invent the internet.

For computer gaming, it all started with the TRS-80 and the Adventure series of games and I haven't stopped since.  I progressed through the TRS-80, C64 and on to PCs (286 being the first PC I had).

For consoles, I really only had the 2600 and didn't get into them until PS2s came out.

Currently I have a couple computers, 3 PS2s, 2 Xboxs and 2 Xbox360s.  I am relatively new to Live (less than a year) as I never got on Live with my original Xboxes.

My 4 granddaughters (11,9,5,3) live next door and spend most of their time at our house.  I activly play video games with and against them and I love it!  I win most of the time but they can handle me at Guitar Hero, I suck at the guitar controller.

Sweet, my first gaming console was the Atari 2600 which I still have in working order along with about 30 games.  My second was a Commodore 64 which I also still own and is in working order.  I used to love playing The Legend of Zork on the Commodore, lol.  I think it could be made into a great game with today's technology.  Cheers to you my friend!

I still had my TRS-80 and my Atari in storage up til '95 in storage at my dad's house (the place I grew up, they still live there) in Florida.  Hurricane Opal flooded everything out and turned all of my stored stuff, including most of our family photos and my original 60's Star Trek collectables, into salt water soaked garbage Sad [:(]

Oh man... that sucks.  I'm glad I live on the west coast and the worst I have to endure is Earthquakes.  Tornadoes, hurricanes and tsunamis are non existant here thank god.

Rofl, I moved inland a few miles about 20 years ago.  I am in Wisconsin now though "home" is still Florida.  I will still take the occasional hurricane over haveing to shovel snow every year though :)

Re: Old gamers
I am 30 yrs been gaming since the atari 2600 and kept on gaming since then. Have a daughter now, and teaching her how to play video games, but letting her do it w/out training wheels(meaning I pass it for her). Had mostly all consoles, but since all the moving I have lost mostly all of them. Would love to build up my collection again for all consoles. Right now I have the Gamecube and had an Xbox, but gifted the Xbox to my step-son. I know I will be this woman's age and still be gaming. It's good to see that there are older adults still playing. To me gaming is part of my life and it's something I won't stop doing. Look at my account and compare games, those are the games I have, minus 2 or 3. Add if you want.

30 yr old, gaming momma. Your as old as you feel

56. Played Pong, Asteroids, etc. in my other life. PS1, PS2, Xbox and now the proud owner of the 360 (3 years). I really do like the 360. Met a lot of friendly people, AVOIDED a lot of knuckleheads, but I don't let them stand in my way. Happy gaming, everyone...............
