This is a very good idea.  I'm getting quite irritated, especially watching the behind the scenes of Team Ninja and seeing their self-satisfied little faces all aglow with the (now revealed to be premature) pride of their project's release.

That has all been besmirched with such an ironic patch - no one knows what it was supposed to fix, but now we all know what it has broken.  Ugh.  I'm cringing every time a cutscene is imminent and my resentment and disdain are starting to cascade onto my perception of the game.

Team Ninja: Quit patting yourselves on the back; Ace up your sprained wrists and get this fixed!

i did exactly that. got a call back from a nice chap called Dani on their escalation team, who tried his best, but was unable to resolve my issue.

IN CASE ANY OF YOU MISSED IT, or can't be arsed reading deeply enough into the thread for the solution...

The delightfully titled McPhersonator posted a workaround for this issue several pages ago. DELETE YOUR GAMER PROFILE, CLEAR THE HDD CACHE MEMORY, AND RECOVER YOUR GAMERTAG FROM XBOX LIVE. ON REBOOT THE GAME WILL ASK YOU TO UPDATE AGAIN, AND AFTER SEVERAL CLICKS YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY MORE ISSUES.

sheesh, the whining is becoming unbearable. TECMO AND MS are human. Just because we spent 40 quid on their product and another few quid for dlc doesn't justify the trash talking in this thread.

GET OVER IT.

Sorry, but no. And anyway, you said earlier in this thread that you went out and spent £20 on a memory unit so you could do the move/delete profile trick. So that's an extra £20 you've spent (on top of the cost of the game and the DLC) just so you could play what you already own. It doesn't strike you as unfair that you had to do this?

Thanks for the mention, Ryui! The thing about the memory card... you really don't need to buy it, but having one to back up your profile is a good idea if you can't recover it for some reason. Plus, a memory card is a useful thing to have. The £20 spent is more like an investment, a good one at that.

So this will clear up the freezing issue? If so, I'll give it a go and say thank you!
If not, I will continue to whine.
See, i  haven't downloaded the MM content, no problems there. It's also not with having spent money, or that humans make mistakes. My problem is with the fact that I can't finish the game and it's basically a nicely colored coaster.
The solution is for Microsoft to remove the update, work on it till it's good, and then upload it again to the servers. Problem is, they can't sell their extra content without it, and make no money in the meantime.

Not that they say anything about it either so we can at least KNOW that they are working on a solution. For all I know they could have abandoned the game at this point.
Oh, and just playing offline thus avoiding the patch? Nope, not a solution in the long run either.

I hope you understand that most of us just feel a bit left out in the cold about it!

No it's not. It's a waste of alot of money. And in today's lousy economic situation where every cent matters and we really have to be careful with our money, this is totally unacceptable.
After all, you'd use it once because you're forced to, but afterwards it'll just be left to rot on some shelf, so I'd say that's a pretty big waste of cash.

not really, i didn't actually HAVE to buy the memory unit, it was only to backup my now known to be corrupted gamer profile. so if you had read my post properly you would have done the workaround at NO EXTRA COST and had no need to whine about your game not working.

lets put things into perspective here. we're talking about a videogame, for the sole purpose of entertaining people. its not software running a life support machine in the intensive care unit of your local hospital. or a bolt which holds your steering wheel onto your car. or a clamp holding the rail track onto the sleepers on a bad bend in a busy urban environment. peoples lives are not at risk here. so the level of crap being spoken in this thread i find frankly a bit over the top.

it doesn't matter how much *** and whining you, me or anyone else decides to post here. noone likes constant moaning, it will absolutely not make an official solution any quicker in coming. so why not use the energy you burned thinking up crap to write/type to do something more constructive, instead of making picking through the posts on this thread unpleasant at best, and downright ugly at worst.

The DLC update has broken the game, every cutscene freezes and the black loading screens get stuck.
The only way I was able to complete my Warrior playthrough earlier was to reject the update and play off Live.

This should NOT be allowed to happen.

Re: Ninja Gaiden II DLC Issues [UPDATED]
ryui yori,

generally I tend to agree with you that constant whining is annoying and not really productive.
I see this a bit different though. Yes its not a life/death situation. But its an avoidable situation. If MS would have done what they normally do, and in a way promise to do, that is testing a product before release, none of this would have happened. But they rushed it for (imho) the sole purpose of making more money off us (releasing the MM). That I don't find to be a fair practice. The FREE update for Burnout Paradise is being tested and certified since July 10 (when it was released for PS3) !!! - Thats how it SHOULD be done, release when ready!
(Microsoft, TECMO, correct me if I'm wrong here, please!)

So, since this is a gamestopping bug (yes, if you choose to play offline it ain't), but its a biggie (all while keeping in mind that all this is just entertainment of course - but entertainment I paid for). And if noone moans and whines, and calls to complain, or ask, it will NEVER be fixed, because the powers that be wouldn't know there is something wrong.
Just as if you buy a chair at Target/Wal-Mart/wherever, and its missing a leg, thus rendering it useless to its intended purpose, you drive back and exchange it. If you don't, they would never know the chair was broken.

just my 2 cents -
(and no, none of this warrants a lawsuit, or switching to ps3/wii, but we have to get MS's attention)

For the past week Ninja Gaiden 2's last title update causes the game to be unplayable. There is no way to get past the first cut seen that takes place in chapter 10. When I get to that point in the chapter the screen turns black and the controller wont stop vibrating untill I restart the system.
The only fix I found is to clear the system cache and not redownload the title update but this is unacceptable for two reasons:
1. Without the update installed you can not  use any of Xbox live features ( custom songs, messages, private chat etc...) also you can not upload karma scores to the leaderboards or watch other people's ninja cinema.
2. Without the update installed you can not  use the Mission Mode DLC which has caused me not to buy it. I have no reason to buy DLC if it is going to make the original game unplayable. I've already looked for help on the Tecmo Forums but their response is to contact Xbox support (http://tecmoforums.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/937102291/m/7861023283)
My gamer tag is HellRazor124 and I've had a live subscription for about for 4 years now, I hope that this is not a new trend in game support for Microsoft and that they treat Loyal customers better.

Thank you for writing Xbox Customer Support!

We are sorry for the inconvenience and as I understand, when you try to use any kind of disc in the Xbox 360 console, you receive the following error message: "Unplayable Disc"

This issue occurs because the Xbox console cannot read the disc correctly. This issue may occur if any one of the following conditions is true:

  • The disc is dirty.
  • The disc is damaged and cannot be recognized.
  • A hardware component is malfunctioning.

The term "disc" can mean a game disc, a DVD, a CD, or any other type of disc that you can use in an Xbox 360 console.

  1. Turn the console off, and then turn the console on again. Try the disc again.
  2. Clean the disc and examine the disc for flaws and scratches. Try the disc again.   Do not use laser lens cleaners or similar products to clean the disc.
  3. Power off and unplug your console, then remove the Hard Disk Drive unit and any attached Memory Units, then reconnect your console and try the disc again. If this appears to resolve the issue, power down and disconnect your console, re-attach the HDD and/or MU, then delete any saved games for the game title in question.  If you can, save the games to a separate memory unit.
  4. Try the disc on another console if you can. If the disc is a CD or a DVD, try the disc on another device that can read that type of disc.
  5. If the disc is a recordable CD (CD-R), try a different CD-R disc or another disc from a different manufacturer.
  6. Try other games to determine whether the problem exists for all games.
  7. Exchange the disc at the location of purchase.
  8. If these steps does not resolve the issue, your console may require repair. You may process a repair for your console by:

. Calling our phone support team. Please provide your console serial number so that we may be able to check the warranty and process a repair for your console. The phone representative will be able to discuss with you the policies.

. Signing on to http://service.xbox.com/ using your Windows Live ID account and processing the repair online. (This is currently available to US customers only.)

If you need to reply to this e-mail, please reply 'with history' (include any previous e-mail) so we can expedite our service to you.

Bah, I get the impression that Customer Support just glances at whatever question you give them and then picks the (supposedly) most suitable generic answer from a list. So Tecmo told you to contact Microsoft CS? That's like me baking a cupcake then selling it at a hardware store, then when you complain to me that is tasted horrible, I tell you to talk to the guy with the hammers. Or something.

As for the memory cards, I find them useful. Recovering my profile takes about half an hour, so when I go to a friends house to play Rock Band or something, it's much quicker and easier to bring my profile with me.

MM is still messed up. As soon as i got the acheivement for survival, the game couldn't find the HDD. I've cleared cache 4 times, redownloaded the DLC 3 times and watched the guide come out toooo many times. This DLC will take a back seat. i'm calling MS monday to get my points back. plan and simple.

I don’t think it is appropriate that someone needs to come up with a "workaround" just to play the game. I shouldn’t have to jump thought hoops to play the game I bought. Personally I am not going to clear my cache or delete my gamer profile just get it to work.

They sure didn’t waste any time fixing the DLC, but that’s because they were losing money. As for the update, you’ve bought the game so they already have your money so there is no rush to fix it. They need to address this problem and at least let us know they are working on it.

Eh, it don't matter much to me anymore, just went and finished my first playthrough on the normal difficulty setting w/o being able to connect to XLive, so without being able to upload my score, which woulda been rather decent for a first playthrough where you generally lose lots of prospective points in the beginning of the game as you're still getting used to the it.
Basically, I finished it once and I moved on. I bought COD4 not too long ago when this crap started and hadn't started it yet, but ya can bet your *** NG2 wasn't gonna keep me with it anymore. Not like this. After all, what's the use of successive playthroughs w/o even as much as a leaderboard ranking to show for it right.

And it truly IS a big deal and not because "ohhh i cant play my game OMG!"
NO it's because this frikkin shows the amount of Respect and "support" from Microsoft, TECMO, Team Ninja or WHOEVER really has for their fan base, paying customers, and the people that allow them to continue to produce great games such as this to sell.

For me, it was:
First it was "Ok, a little mistake.. they'll fix it"
Then it was "Oh, it froze, guess they are still working on it"
After it was "Ok, this is getting a little ridiculous"
Now, It's just outrageous!

I completely agree with CrazyMonte and Syd

And there shouldn't have be a way to get around the flaw, that's for them to address. Not us.

ok it looks like i stirred up a wasps nest (if you're American read hornets nest)

First of all I dislike poor quality control, and poor customer service as much as the next guy, I was very vocal in the forums regarding the poor build quality of pre-elite xbox 360s. However as was the case then, getting frustrated to the point of typing bile, and throwing the toys out of the pram stating "i won't buy another MS/Tecmo product again" is pretty childish, and i reiterate ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT make one iota of difference to what is being done in an official capacity to solve the problem. The fact is we have a choice, do the workaround, or do not. If you choose not to, you're argument is basically void. Official or not the solution is simple, and takes at most about a half hour.

Syd, ryui yori is not my name dude. its japanese for.....from ryui, like you would write/type at the end of a letter. Just to clear that up Smile [:)]

Gunslinger, I'm guessing you are implying I have had some form of payment for defending Microsoft and Tecmo? Sorry if it disappoints, but I'm not. imho reaction has been OTT. We all have, to a certain degree, freedom of speech here. But i think many forget we also have a responsibility to try to act like adults and discuss things constructively instead of acting like 2 year olds. Just to clear that up Wink [;)]

Kurosawasghost, the patch was worked on, and has been repaired. The freezing issue which remains is because of corruption to the active gamer profile caused by the initial issue.                                                                  "*** THAT! Just for the record, I don't like but don't mind deleting and recovering my gamertag if that is what I have to do to resolve the issue. The problem I have is how Tecmo/Microsoft has 'officially' ignored the fact that this problem exists. A memo titled "How to resolve the update of death" from either company would be an appropriate resolution, and feelings would not be so hard.

Nice one ryui!

I do agree with you on your responses (how's that for surprising), but stick to my general frustration and anger towards poor quality control, and more so a lack of communication and customer service (and yes, it should stay within reason).
But just to clarify one thing:
I have never touched the Mission Mode, never downloaded it. And yet the UPDATE corrupted my active gamerprofile?! So why is it still up? MS never removed it and fixed it! They did (try to) fix MM, but never the 'patch' itself. Recovering my profile works until I am forced to download the update again, at which point it will 'corrupt' my savegame again. And playing offline 'refusing' the patch means no leaderboards - ok for bit, but not the long term.

So if I never downloaded MM or the update, if I accept the update now I won't run into the freezing issue? I'm not worried about getting MM for the time being. I'm just on Chtp 10 on PoMN and I want to be able to sign in so when I eventually do beat it I have the time stamp on it.
