Re: RETURN, REPAIR, and SHIPPING DISCUSSION (Thread 2)

My X360 was only a year and 3 months old; and a few days ago I turned it on and I see 1 red ring then the screen displays an error E74 message.  I waited 3 1/2 years to buy the system due to all the problems and I figured they would of had all the bugs out by now.  I don't know why MS rushed the production of the X360, its only going to hurt them in the end with all these issues with the system that will cause them to lose some fans due to rushing out the product.  I just sent my system in yesterday, it says I ll have to 2-3 weeks.  I hope I get jasper board on this one.

Re: RETURN, REPAIR, and SHIPPING DISCUSSION (Thread 2)
I know when I returned my first 360 I was instructed to remove any custom face plate. So I swaped my Halo face plate with the original. I never would have thought of removing it all together, that might be acceptable. My only concern woud be that without the face plate, if the console is not being replaced but just repaired it would be more prone to damage without the face plate but then if your face plate is in perfect condition and you send it with the console I guess you run the risk of it being scratched. hmmm, tough decision if you only have the one. If you are from Canada I don't think they repair your console they just give you a replacement, at least for the RROD. I believe I have read that some where but don't take my word for it. My original console was definitely replaced as the one I received in return had a different serial number, different manufacture date, actually older then the one it replaced which irritated me and the disk drive never worked right, it would always get hung up on the face plate.

Yes I would definitely swap it out then. Basically they don't want you sending any accessories or custom stuff because they explicitly state they will not be returning it which is why they say not to include the power supply, any and all cables, controllers, hard drive, etc.

I did include regular faceplate, as it does say custom, and i think I left it on last time...

I have an xbox 360 that was purchased in January 2008 that received an e74 error with one red light in February of 2009. My warranty expired in January 2009 therefore leaving me with a broken xbox that I would have to pay to fix/replace. Because my warranty was expired there was obviously no reason to not break the warranty seal and try to fix it myself, especially if it would save me from having to pay Microsoft to fix it. Without any luck my xbox 360 remained broken with the e74 error. Though somewhat late, I recently discovered Microsoft decided to extend the three year red ring warranty to include the one flashing light e74 error. I was wondering if because I had broken the warranty seal after my warranty expired if it still voids the new warranty Microsoft let out? If I am declined this new warranty that is pretty bad service on Microsoft's part... Selling me a faulty xbox, let my warranty run out less than a month before my xbox crashes, then create a new warranty that covers my problem and not let me take advantage of it due to their poor manufacturing?

Unfortunately your warranty is void-since you broke the seal. If you had sent it in for repair back in Feb and paid for the repair, you would have gotten your money back. (Of course you had no way of knowing that, can't fault you for that).

Try this website, if you are somewhat handy you may be able to fix it yourself:

Re: RETURN, REPAIR, and SHIPPING DISCUSSION (Thread 2)
Hey guys, I'm from the US, abroad in the UK right now, and my console just RRoD'd. My console was manufactured for North America, so it's only going to play NTSC region games, which are all that I own (about 50+ of them, not to brag). If I have it repaired using the service in the UK, chances are probably pretty damn high that I'll get a PAL region console and not be able to play my games (see? that information earlier mattered, who wants to waste so much money on unplayable games?), do you think if I left a note in with the packaging saying "I want an NTSC console pretty plez," it'll get me anywhere? Or should I ship it to a friend back in the states and not worry about it?

OK, so I just recieved my xbox back in the mail after sending it in to get it fixed.

can someone tell me how to send it in again? becuase there are loose parts within the xbox, and it freezes with every game I try to play (like 5 -10 minutes in)

I can't register this console on my other gamertag because I changed e-mail addresses, and on this e-mail address I can't resend the xbox in because it doesn't show up on the "fix my console" part of the tab.

I appreciate all help with it.

Your can't veiw the repair status if your signed onto your xbl account on this site. First go to support up top, then go to check repair status off to the left, then type in your service request number an your full zip/postal code to the right but YOU MUST BE LOGGED OUT.

You accepted that piece of junk? I would have contacted them and told them that they are accepting another return and sending me a properly working console. Take my replacement console you can even see some places where they missed drilling some holes. Talk about poor quality.

So what they say when you told them that? I just got found out the status of my console and that it was shipped today. So I should have it in a few days.  I've been beefing with the Customer Support Via email telling them I want the same console or a new one due to all the horror stories I've been hearing on the forums.  They were saying how the tech's inspect each console...blah blah..then I copied pasted your problems from the forums to them and haven't heard nothing back since, lol.  I'll definitely let everybody know with my experience that's for sure.

They treid to make the standard excuses they normally try. I did not actually call about the holes being drilled wrong it was just something I mentioned on top of the holes. They said that the holes is simply cosmetic. Which is not really treu its actual purpose if for ventilation. Could be part of the reason why it was having overheat issues as well as it had a drive failure where it would many times refuse to read my disks.

They treid to tell me it was the wrong kind of broken and tried to blame everything but the machine. So then I told them about the holes and asked the person I was speaking with if he thought that sounded like quality to him. Well he said nothing but his silence said much more.

I think they only fixxed it to get me to shut up and stop bothering them about it. I think they frankly were tired of getting phone calls from me so they agreed to repair free of charge.

The moral of the story if you want the console fixxed be a pest be as big a pest as possible and there is a chance they will do it just to make you stop. That console coffin arrive today and it was shipped off today. Oh and when I get the repalcement if anything does not seem right I am sending it in for repair again. So they better hope the one they sent me is not poud when running if it is it's going back. If it is scratched all up it's going back.

If the drive gets stuck on the front plate it will for sure be sent back. If I get a RROD out of the box then MS will have to deal with me angry. See I kind of have a volitile temper and stuff like this makes my blood boil. This 3rd 360 better be perfect. ALso enough is enough any problem should be covered under the 3 year RROD warranty.

The consol I sent in maybee did not have the RROD but it was I think close to either that or a permanent disk read error. MS has had plenty of time to fix these issues and it is unbeleavable that none of the issues have really been adressed.

My launch console just got the E74 error and I sent an email to support on whether it would be covered under the warranty extensions. The response email wasn't that helpful, so that's why I'm here. The warranty on the console expired 1/18/2007. Will it be covered under the extension or will I have to pay the $100 for shipping/ repair costs and all that.

Yeah, I didn't want to be without the console any longer, granted the entire return process for that original console was very, very smooth, from the time I called until the time I actually received the replacement was something like one week, or maybe 10 days. I was amazed at how fast it was. Unlike my curent experience, which if I talk about it I'll spiral into an uncontrolled rage. So basically, the only real issue with the opening/closing of the disc drive on the first replacement console was that it would get hung up on the faceplate and go back to the open state, a simple tap on the top of the console would close the drawer every time, which meant I would have to get up and go over to the console to close the drawer if I forgot when I loaded a disc. That was something I could live with. Reading my previous post, I said it happened every time, this was not true, I don't know why I typed that, perhaps mad at my current experience with Microsoft :) The disc drawer would actually get hung up about 50%-60% of the time.

I would say unfortunately no given the date you mentioned above, the RROD/E74 would have only extended 2 years beyond that date.

Then why did you not just get a replacement front panel or ask them to send you one? Though from the sounds iof it maybee they forgot one *** on the part of the drive it would get stuck. I have a backup console so I can be picky.

When I get mine back if there is anything I don't like it's going back. Still it getting stuck can damage the drive later leaving you stranded with a 360 where the drive motor burns out. I remeber that when I had a PS2 it would stick I left it thinking what harm would the drive sticking do.

Well I can tell you the harm it did the motor responsible for opening the drive burned out from it getting stuck all the time.

Honestly it never crossed my mind to ask for a new facplate until you mentioned it :) Even a new one wouldn't help as I also have a Halo faceplate and it does the same thing with that one. I don't think there would ever be a problem of the motor buring out because it only ever tries to close like 2 or 3 times then it just goes back to the open position.

My understanding is, and I may be wrong here so please correct me if so, the RROD/E74 warranty covers 3 years from the purchase of the console not three additional years beyond the standard one year warranty (for 4 years in total). If not I'm all for it because that means I would have another year and a half left and not just appx 6 months :)

Anyone else ever send in ther console and the whole record of the repair dissapears? No explanation as not emailed I simply went online to look for my warranty status and it's gone. It never even updated when I actually shipped the console to them. I called them and they said they have it at the repair centre.

Now my repair is simply gone as well as the broken 360 is gone. So I have been dowgraded from paying 600 bucks for a lousy product to now have paid 600 for nothing at least before I ahd a door stop.

I am in the same boat with different circumstances. I'm visiting abroad for the summer, and mine RRoD'd. I am going to register a repair through the UK region of this website. It costs way too much to send it back to the US for a repair, and then to send it back. It's almost as expensive as buying a new one outright.

hmmm, this is an interesting situation. personally, if it were me, as much as I hate Microsoft right now due to their handling of my return over the past 3 weeks, I would have to say give them a call at the support number and explain the situation, and make sure they truly understand if you happen to be speaking to someone in India because some times a lot can be lost in those conversations. Once they understand they should be able to tell you your options. The call is free after all.

Hmmm there is some shadyness afoot here. Did anyone in here see the topic about how microsoft wont be sending "coffins" to us for repairs. Well I called bs in the thread since my coffins being shipped as we speak and now the topic is strangely gone. If you do a search for posts i've made you can still see the topic but when you click on it, it says this topic does not exist. Ok what give microsoft?!

Is it better to use Xbox.com for the whole repair process or to Call Xbox?  I am 1 step away from printing out a shipping label and shipping it myself through xbox.com, but I don't want an mistakes at all.
