Re: This Disc Is Unreadable... Post Here If This Happens To You

It has happen to me, but lately it has been even worse because some games won't work and will say Disc Is Unreadable and they use to work just fine like "Saints Row" or "GTA San Andreas" and some other ones will work, but sometimes will also have the same problem.

I am having the same issue but with Gears of War. I have tried everything. My system is 2 weeks old and I have finally given up and contacted Microsoft. I have to send it back, which is essentially going to be a 2 week process. Funny thing...While I'm talking to the guy at Microsoft he couldn't complete my request because he's having "computer problems".......This is just pathetic. The guy even went as far to say that this is the price Microsoft pays for being the "leader" in the console war....Hello>>>> ever heard of the Sony Playstation.

Re: This Disc Is Unreadable... Post Here If This Happens To You

you think you would get all the bugs worked out before you sell this.  Froze all 3 of my games on the first system, 30 days old (vertical placement).  Took it back, got a new 360 (horizontal placement) and I've played NCAA Football about 6-7 times with no "unreadable disk" so maybe (fingers crossed) the problem is solved on newer 360.

Keep posting please, Microsoft needs to handle this BS.

i forgot to mention after the first 2 disc were ruined i thought it was my system so i exchanged my new xbox 360 live for another new xbl sys. and still had the samw problem.only ncaa 07 football.between xbox and ea sports you'd think they could solve this problem.we the custumer deserve better.we should'nt have to find tricks like laying down the xb or turning down the commintator or any other trick to play our games.WE'VE KEPT OUR END OF THE DEAL BY PAYING FOR OUR XBOX'SAND EA SPORTS DISC THEY SHOULD KEEP THEIR END OF THE DEAL BY GIVING US WHAT WE PAID FOR!                    GATORS RULE!!!!!

I think this may be a problem with the harddrive or the harddrive cache
People who got new systems/games did you also get new harddrives?
clearing the cache or deleting the saves (worst solution, I know but might work)people brave enough to delete their
report your outcome please!

This has happened not only on NCAA Football but on Madden 07...I did send EA Sports an email asking for some kind of action to be taken...let's see what the do.

It's not a coincidence that the only 2 games that freeze are BOTH EA Sports games.

Re: This Disc Is Unreadable... Post Here If This Happens To You
I have been experiencing this off and on (mostly on) for the last three months. "Disc Unreadable" errors about one out of every three games I play. (I play March Madness 07 almost exclusively.) It's gotten much worse now. I started getting the "To play this game, put it in an XBox 360 console" message, and now I get that message about half the time I put in a game (whether it's MM07, Madden 07 or NBA Live 07). The other half of the time, the console doesn't recognize a game disk in the tray at all. Interestingly, it seems to play DVDs just fine. Downloaded game demos, stored on the HDD, work fine. In any case, seems like some kind of drive failure. I'm really glad I only purchased three games, because I'm 40 years old and have bette things to do with my time than troubleshooting a $300 toy. My XBox experience has been a dud.

Happened to me last night for the first time.  Madden 2007.  Game loads fine.  Loads my profile, etc fine.  I can even load my franchise with no problems.  When I go to actually start playing the next game in my season, though, I get the "disc unreadable" error.

I played for about an hour earlier in the day with no issues.  let the xbox360 sit for about 3 hours, then tried to play again and got the error.  I didn't try any other discs to see if the issue is isolated to madden.

My 360 was purchased in early January 2007, and I keep it in a cool (temperature) location with lots of airflow, on a solid surface.

It just started happening to my Gears of War disc, I can play everything except online multiplayer, whenever it's connecting to a game it gives me the unreadable disc screen. Single player works fine. The game is brand new and has no scatches on it.

Re: This Disc Is Unreadable... Post Here If This Happens To You
Heh, I am on my second copy of Gears of War. I made the mistake of moving the 360 from vertical while playing My first copy of Gears. Yeah, it turned it into a coaster, so I ordered a new one. It's been playing fine for about a month, but since the recent update this past tuesday, it absolutely will not connect to games online. This is really weird because I can play co-op online, and the single player campaign just fine. However, everytime I try and join a game in multiplayer ir freezes in the same spot as the map is loading each time. I tried the toothpaste technique on the old disc that the 360 demolished and what I found that was hilarious was that now the old beat-up disc will actually load all the way to the game, but will still kick me because it is just too scratched to play. I can accept that the old one is never going to play again, but the new one has no scatches in anyway whatsoever, and it still refuses to connect to the games and gives me the "Unreadable disc" task bar everytime...

Yep this has happened to me on all of the following

Lost planet

Oblivion (managed to buff the scratches out)

COD3

Enchanted Arms (managed to buff the scratches out)

My 360 is and always has been horizontal on a stable TV stand and without FOD in the tray. It is really starting to drive me crazy.

happened to my old madden every time and then started to do it with a new madden and now its started to do it with my nba2k7 which i've had for less than a week. REALLY annoying...it's like i'm being jacked, they take my money and give me some broke games...its clever of them making games that break within a week that don't have any marks on them

I have been having the Unreadable issue with my EA Sports NCAA Football07 too. I cleared the cache and formate the HD - just tried to play the game - same thing.... The screen freezes for a few seconds, then the Unreadable garbage comes on....   I haven't tried other games because I love NCAA Football game... I guess I'm going to have to break down and try other games tho.... But don't bother with the HD format - didn't work for me.....

Hey all,

I found on other message boards a way to fix this issue.  So far after a week it has worked for me.  And I've played about 5 hours straight without it bugging out.

Basically it was saying that the programming is faulty in this game.  There is a bug in the coding where it reads EA material off your hard drive.  Unfortunately, it doesn't know which EA game to read.  So if you have other EA games on your HD it's trying to read material from all EA games on the HD because it doesn't know what is what, thus causing the game to die and be unreadable.  It said go into your system/HD and delete all EA records, including your current NCAA one.  I didn't want to delete but since I wasn't that far into my other EA games, I figured it was worth a shot.  So far, like I said earlier, I have had ZERO problems.  The ncaa game is the only EA saved on my HD now.  Try it, it worked for me. Smile [:)]

I deleted EVERYTHING on my 360 H (format)..., just played a brand new spanking game.... froze and got the UNREADABLE error... I think I'll try the other idea of turning commentary down to '0'    But, as stupid as I may sound...., I like the commentaries....

Alright….here is my update.   Since my last post I was noticing the problem pretty much every other load screen, while playing Dead Rising or during the default replays in Madden.  I called Microsoft and they said I had to send it in to get it fixed….and then they said my system wasn’t under warranty so I would have $150 + s. h. to get it fixed.   I proceeded to politely say f*ck that and would try and deal with it on my own.   After some more research I found that corrupt game cache can cause the system to freeze.  I then figured out how to clear all my game cache (search clear Xbox 360 game cache in support) and noticed that it pretty much fixed the problem…..I’ve had one freeze in the past month playing DR which is a definite improvement….None of my other games includeing Gears of War seem to have the problem…Not sure if this will help with NCAA 07 but its worth a shot.

I cleared my cache and when that didn't work I deleted my HD (formatted it), and that still didn't work on NCAA Football07.....   I hope their 08 version has this figured out at EA Sports.....

UPDATE: I called 1-800-4MY-XBOX and they replaced my console. I was so relieved to find that they had extended the warranty to a year -- almost as though Microsoft was responding to a 'known issue' kind of situation. So...props to them. Hopefully they're responding to it not just through the extended warranty, but also by getting to the bottom of whatever the issue is (I still say bad DVD drive) and making sure it's fixed on new and replacement consoles. No issues with the new box, so far (a week). I'm smiling again.

i have the same problem with dead rising and oblivion, if you stand it vertically and it moves even a little it makes a horrible noise and scuffs the disk.its happened with two of my games, they get rings around the outside of the disc.So i brought them to my video game store to get them cleaned for 5$ and they work after that, but still its total bullshit. microsoft needs to get thier *** together and make thier systems BETTER.cuz i am not returning a 60$ game just to pay for it again.or not even at all (if they're sold out or dont sell them anymore).

Re: This Disc Is Unreadable... Post Here If This Happens To You
I bought my xbox360 with a hard drive (didnt know there were memory cards, would of saved me alot Sad [:(]) another controller and Gears of War (new). Me and my friend played the game all night till we beat it, then i returned it and got Oblivion (new). After an hour of playing that, i got the Disc Read error. from that point on it has constantly happened ranging every hour to 3 hours. I heard that its due to poor ventilation, so i stood it up vertically. That didnt help...Im thinking of buying a fan or 2 for it....does anyone know if this will help? It never got knocked over or anything. I didnt buy a warrenty with it either, really wish i did, go get me a ****ing Wii or PS3. Any game i rent, is always scratched up and i cant play more than 20 minutes at a time with them.

It's happened to me with Lost Planet when the console was upright so I made it horizontal, still does it.  Also just happened to me today with my own copy of Enchanted Arms.
Do I have to buy a new copy now of Enchanted Arms or just try it again tomorrow?
