As for the recent weekly topic, I wouldn't quite say Lost Planet rivals Gears of War in the looks department. * snip * The map system seems a tad too complex *snip* Also, in Dead Rising you battled against time and on Lost Planet you battle against freezing. I still wonder why game developers want to rush the players rather than giving them a chance to enjoy the game at their own pace, whatever pace that is.
I agree with you and think that Gears of War is groundbreaking like the Locust. With regard to connected entertainment and community development, however, I suppose Lost Planet slightly excels Gears of War.
By the way, I don't own a copy of Planet, I have just once played the multiplayer demo at the last year's Tokyo Game Show and later through the marketplace. In contrast, I am a huge fan of Gears.
Back on track, based on my knowledge acquired from some Japanese online boards, I think Lost Planet makes better community than Gears of War does because the online matches of the former title seems generating much less hostility in comparison to the latter. Such online matches as ones in Lost Planet are called omatsuri game since you can enjoy them as if you are participating in a festival.
I really love Gears's online cooperation in the campaign mode and think it to be the most revolutionary feature in that game. But unfortunately, the negativity in the ranked matches overweighs.
As to Dead Rising, I felt in the same way. It reminded me of wandering around in the crowds at Tokyo Game Show last year, which was my first experience of attending TGS. Though I got a pamphlet that showed the schedule and the map, I didn't spare time to look at it ending up in finishing two days without knowing about the Idolmaster stage.
EDIT: OMG! I noticed just now that I responded to a post of January (1st page).
