Timthestud, thats EXACTLY what happens on my HTPC.  The thing is, it works flawlessly on my laptop, which literally sits right next to my HTPC.  I followed the exact same prodecure.  The HTPC runs XP corporate sp2, the laptop xp home sp2.  I don't know what to do. Ive installed drivers several times, rebooted, etc, etc.  no luck.  Recognized and connects within a second on the laptop.

Anyway, so Timthestud.. I did some reading on here about the USB power issue, and I believe that is your problem, as it was mine.  I disconnected my two USB mice and usb camera.  Plugged in an old PS/2 mouse, rebooted, and the controller works fine.  As soon as I plug in one of the USB mice, the controller stops responding as the connection is lost.  I need to get a usb card or powered hub.  I had the former, but I think I gave it away :)

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
Hey guys, I've had one of these for a little over a month now. At first I had nothing but the same problems, tried the usb hub, but it still didn't work. I have a wireless logitech mouse (G5 Laser) and a wired logitech keyboard. I had both hooked up with usb, when I reconnected them with the usb/ps2 adapter and restarted the computer, suddenly everything was working properly. I'm not saying this will work for everybody, but hopefully it will help.

I'm running a 360 controller and wireless headset everytime I use it. Just try moving your keyboard and mouse to ps2 instead of usb and make sure you restart after doing so. If you've already done that than I dunno.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
Anyone know how I can fix my right stick? It works fine in games that support the pad by default, but when simply in windows, the stick only reads diagnols and is constantly being pressed in one direction. I'm using a seperate usb hub to connect it so that's not an issue. I haven't figured out how to completely uninstall the drivers either. After I go through the uninstallation, the controller can still connect to the receiver and the problem still persists.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

Hi...

Think I figured it out....HAD the same issue, this is MY take on it...Microsoft humped the pooch again...the issue is with the drivers AUTOMATIC update, seems as soon as it updates...the next time it reboots its failure time..... hope this works for ya'll....ya need the older driver that came on the disk with the "puck".....go into the device manager for the controller and rollback the driver....I left mine connected to the USB port when I did this.....I chose which driver I wanted...(2006 driver)....then I rebooted leaving the Wireless 360 ring flashing....after reboot...it found it....need to stop the automatic update for the puck till Microsoft fixes the updated driver....

Hope this helps

And I hope this posts for all...new to postine here!!!

Long Live Xbox Live!!!!!

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
I have two wireless recievers, three pc's, laptops and desktops, running XP 32bit and Vista 32bit.
laptop, works fine with both recievers allways. unfortuantly its not equiped for gaming. both desktops with xp and vista it almost never works. I tried what worked for others, rolling back drivers, forcing the cd drivers on it. nothing worked. I even reinstalled vista and it did work when i reinstalled. but once i was done windows updates and installing my software/games it was not working again. My plan was to delete all the related driver files for all the version of the versions. My vista box was running the latest driver in c:\windows\system32\drivers and a .dll in c:\windows\system32\WdfCoInstaller01005.dll I browsed to the system32 folder and there was two .dll's the 1005 one and WdfCoInstaller01001.dll, since it wasnt in use I blew away the WdfCoInstaller01001.dll and it imedatly started working. i even turned on another contoler and it worked fine. unfortunatly the dll was not the solution. I preformed the same delete on my xp box and it still doesnt work. I wish I had better news for everyone, this *** pisses me off. For like a month I cant play my racing games etc... cuz my controller wont connect..... then it just starts working for no reson. Bleh! Damn you M$! You spoiled me with this wonderfull controller and now it doesnt work. I wont go back to my Saitek p880!

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

Guys,

Got mine working by rolling back the driver, unplugging my keyboard and restarting the computer.

I then pressed the button on top of the device when windows had loaded (dunno if thats relevent) and it connected.

Then I plugged in my usb keyboard again.

Hope this helps.

God speed.

Correct. Despite the packaging saying it would support FF on Windows, it still does not.

I can't believe this.  This is by far the worst MS product ever.  Are there ANY real fixes?  Any at all?

Everyone forget the official support. Microsoft absviously doesn't care.

Get your self a self-powered USB hub and it will work just fine!
I tried it with 7 different hubs and had the same results: works like a charm.

Bought and I have to say it works fine for me. Played 2 games, Darkstar one, which was a little weird on a controller for the first time.
And World of warcraft, and it runs ok there too.

Might get freelancer back out Smile [:)]

I'm on the phone with customer support right now, they apparently have no idea what the device is.  I'm getting the same problem where the controller won't sync, and best of all, it killed my Razer Copperhead mouse.

Driver Support

I am not having issues syncing up the controller to the receiver.  My issue is that I am running a Vista 32 laptop, with 3 powered USB ports and I can not get the driver software to install, period.

Tech support (to everyone's surprise) has no idea why.

I have been tinkering with it for the past hour and I have tried rebooting and that solves nothing.  The software that comes with the device does not install and refers me to the website.  Where I download version 1.1 and try again.  After downloading it, I am told to download the updated software from Microsoft Update.  Which in turn, says that there are no updates available and my laptop is completely up to date.

Xbox Tech Support has no information available.  Microsoft Tech Support as well as Gateway Tech Support both want me to pay extra to solve the issue (after contacting Gateway for assistance, I will never buy another Gateway computer, since they offer absolutely no assistance without paying extra).

RE: Driver Support
I just bought a wireless controller for windows today and got into the same USB problems described here.

After trying most solutions here I remembered that the USB polling rate is on 500Hz on my machine. Although this should be no problem at all for normal devices I though I should give it a try and put it to the windows standard: 125Hz. I believe USB is specced to be able to work on 1000Hz.

After changing this my controller worked flawlessly, putting the polling rate on 250Hz also worked fine.
Off course, this "fix" only works for people who changed their polling rate before. If you want to know how to change it back, read this: http://www.overclock.net/faqs/73418-how-improve-mouse-response-accuracy-changing.html

Hopefully it can be some help for anyone.

Re: RE: Driver Support

After a lot of problems on my Vista 64bit PC with a MS8000 keyboard I did find a solution.

Take the USB plug on the receiver out of the PC and plug it in to the hub for the keyboard and it will work as it should.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
My reciever worked perfectly when I got it for quite a while. At one point I needed an extra usb port so I unplugged the reciever and set it aside. My sony computer then decided it was time again to *** up my harddrive which has failed 4 times total. I finally bought a new harddrive. After plugging the receiver into the computer again after so long, the reciever doesn't work at all. No lights no detection in windows, no found new hardware wizard. Tryed this on my other computers to and it just seems to be dead. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm having the same problem as chococheese. It happened right after I installed my new mouse, so I though it might have been that. As it turns out it just doesn't work anymore.

LOL, I've been following this thread since it first started.  For a LONG time, it worked perfectly for me (after plugging in the powered USB hub that is), but just about 2 weeks ago, it stopped working all together, just like the last 2 posters posted about.  This thing has been so troublesome.  I ended up just getting a wired controller for now, but I think it's dead.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
this is the worst purchase ive ever made and worst of all i lost the recept so i cant return it. the lack of support from microsoft and the insulting support line has made me consider selling my 360 and all accessories. I want to sell them and upgrade my comp and get a good wheel for the pc but then i would still be running on microsft so im sure it would mess up somehow, and i dont wanna get a ps3 cuz the only good racing game on that is gt5 and just like the rest of the gt line while its a visual masterpeice its physics are deeply flawed. i wish they would sell a hard cable that connected the wheel to the pc.

and next time the guy from xbox support in india asks me for my name, im gonna tell him not till he tells me his real name! cuz i know its not mike or dave! its insulting!
