Ahh, why didn't I ever check back here!  I just ordered my HAVA last week, and now I think I'm going to get this instead.  You are playing in HD and recording SD, right?

Just to be clear: (http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-1212-Definition-Personal-Recorder/dp/B0018LX0DY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232974894&sr=8-1) is this the model you are talking about?

I would definetly like to hear about your experience with this, ZS.  Also a brief overview of the setup would be helpful, if you don't mind.  I would like to know if there is anything extra I need to get to hook this thing up.

It pretty straight forward setting up but before you buy it make sure your PC laptop has a duo core processor.    I have to get a new computer because my laptop doesn't have one.

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
I have just bought 1 of these.
Im struggling to get it set up.
Im Uk so have Xbox set to pal 50hz and switch on tv.
I have Hd tv so leave red blue and green composite leads in tv and can play games.
the other composite leads (red, white and yellow) go to dazzle and then dazzle to usb.
It all installed fine.
Just wont capture anything.
I have tried windows movie maker and get nothing.
Also tried the software provided and im getting a mixture of check leads errors or when i click capture i get an error burning message.
Ive tried 2 pc's and 2 composite leads.
Do you think i have a faulty dazzle?
Thanks for any help.

With the Dazzle you can't play in HD, while recording.  If you want to record, you will need to hook it up in SD.  If you don't already have them, you will also need to get splitters for your componant (red, white, and yellow) cable, so that you can have one set going into your TV and the other into the Dazzle.

If you still wish to play in HD (but record in SD), there are a couple products on the previous couple of pages that can do so.  I have the HAVA Plantinum HD, and that seems to work well enough.  If you want to record in HD, and have a high end computer you might also want to check out the Hauppauge HD PVR mentioned above, although that one is going to cost a bit more.

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
Thanks for the reply.
Not sure my first post was quite clear or i dont understand the setup.
It is a hd tv yes but i have removed the hd leads and set the component (red yellow white) to tv from the xbox on the switch. Ive changed the hz from 60 to 50hz. Hopefully thats the correct set up to play the xbox on a tv yet i dont get a picture on the tv?. So its no suprise that the dazzle isnt recieving a picture.
So are my settings correct. i figure that for the dazzle to work first i must get an output from the red, yellow white wires, which im not at the moment. Are there any other stting with xbox to make the component wires work maybe?

Again, thanks for any help.

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
No mate. I was told i didnt need splitters. The component cable is the red, yellow and white from the xbox?
The dazzle wont pick up the output if they component cables dont got to the tv as well as the device?
So i need cable from xbox set on tv then splt the red, yellow and white cables with splitters and 1 set goes to tv and 1 to dazzle?.
So many noob questions sorry.

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
Well, if you want to play on your Xbox and record on your computer at the same time you are going to need 3 A/V splitters. You will also need a component cable. The component cable you want is double sided with Yellow, Red and White on both sides.

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
Ok thanks im a little clearer now. So the cable i get with the xbox is fine. I just need to split the wire and 1 set goes to tv and the other to the dazzle.
I think i was getting confused because the tv that i play xbox and the monitor for the pc are the same screen. I have just been switching mode.
Ill let you know how i get on and thanks for the help.

BTW, the yellow is the COMPOSITE cable, the Red/Green/Blue are the COMPONENT cables.
