Re: Episode VI Superstory - Game Freeze Official Thread
Well the first time i played this level, i had no freezing, but was 22 seconds over the time limit. Out of frustration i shut down the console before the save.. not realizing that i still would have gotten the gold brick. So the next day i played it again. Then, when i was at 55 minutes, and in the last tunnel leaving the exploding death star of Death Star II.. it froze. So i tried it again. this time at 36 minutes on the Battle of Endor, it froze. Then i try it again, and it freezes once more on Death Star II while trying to leave the exploding death star. So.. 3 days later i tried it again, and i finally finnished it.

I'm having trouble with freezing in episode IV Rebel Attack freeplay, thus this does not bode well for me in the later levels.  So, I shall tag for future reference. Thanky

Well I finally finished the game 100%. Took me 7 attempts in the end. The worst one was a freeze during the final cut scene of Death Star! Extremely frustrating

Re: Episode VI Superstory - Game Freeze Official Thread
This freaking bug killed my XBOX 360. I had no problems with my XBOX before I tried to do the Super Story for Episode 6, it would freeze here and there but those incidents were isolated and seldom. I was playing the super story for Chapter 6 and everything went fine (first play though it froze at Carkoon but that didn't seem to odd (I accidentally activated a blade during a cut scene). So anyways, second time through I'm like ok there is no way this Endor thing is gonna happen to me but I clear out my side of the river and shoot at as much as I can across the river and take C3PO across. He gets a little past the coast and the game/system freezes. At this point I'm a little upset for wasting 40 odd minutes but I'm like ok I'll be back tomorrow. The next day I put in Lego Star Wars and I am just walking around the cantina and shooting a little bit and the game/system freezes. I try again, I walk outside to collect money (shooting barrels, etc.) and the game/system freezes. Then I try it once more, the game/system freezes as soon as I enter the cantina. Ok, I'll try my rental Bionicile. I take 5 or 6 steps in a brand new game (never been put in my system before) and the game/system freezes. Ok, I'll play my favorite game Smackdown vs. Raw. I play 2 minutes of a Battle Royal match and it freezes. I try again, freezes again. Once more, another freeze. I try a DVD, the dvd plays all the way through fine but I try to view a special feature on it and the system freezes. I turn the XBOX on, remove the dvd, and get 3 red lights on the console! Now I'm waiting for a shipping box. I have almost no doubt that Lego Star Wars caused this to happen regardless of if my system was already "going" to die or not (I had next to no problems before the Endor freeze)

A serious pain in the ***. It's also extremely disappointing because I re-picked up the game recently to finish it up like I had been wanting to do and this was my last thing I had left to do for 100% (besides a few of the more major purchases that needed to be made but that is easier with the last brick)

Have you tried clearing the cache memory?

Go to the System blade, press Y. Then press X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X.

You'll get a confirmation mesage to proceed and you'll have to download any game updates again as and when you play them

Tried that, and also tried playing w/o a hard drive to see if there was a problem with a game's save or just the hard drive itself. Neither worked. Now the system won't even boot up any longer.

And good luck trying to get LucasArts to even admit that this is a problem.  I wrote to them a month ago and still haven't heard word one from their *self-censoring my expletives* customer service.  A respectable company would have come up with a solution to this problem by now, or at the very least copped to it as being a problem with THEIR game (not the user's 360, or settings, or controller, or game save, or geographical distance from the sun or any other bull excuse they're using these days).

Here is the company line I recieved from Lucasarts.  Hope it helps somebody.

Hello,

If you are experiencing issues with the disc in the Xbox 360, try the following
troubleshooting steps from Microsoft:

1. Restart the console.
2. Determine whether the issue has occurred more than one time. If this case is
the first time that you have experienced this behavior, the issue may not occur
again.
3.  Try clearing the cache.  Reset your Xbox, and hold down the A button as the
game is booting up. If any button is held while the game is loading, it will
clear its hard drive cache, and create a new one. Once you see the game logo,
the game is already loaded, and the cache should have been cleared.  Note, this
does not effect your game in any way other than loading. You will not lose any
saved data.
4. Determine whether the Xbox 360 console is overheating. Make sure that the
console is not in a poorly ventilated environment or near a heat source. Heat
sources include TVs, computers, monitors, and other electrical devices. If the
Xbox 360 console is in a poorly ventilated location, move it to a location that
has sufficient ventilation, such as on top of a table or on the floor. If the
issue is resolved, the previous location likely did not provide sufficient
ventilation for the Xbox 360 console to correctly function.

View the Xbox 360 instruction manual for information about correct placement of
the console.

5. Make sure that the Xbox 360 console is set to the correct time and date.
6. Remove all unnecessary peripherals, and then test to see whether the problem
still occurs.
7. Determine whether the disc that you are using is the cause of the issue by
testing several similar Xbox 360-compatible discs in the console. If the problem
occurs with only one disc, search the Microsoft Knowledge Base to determine
whether the particular disc has any known issues. Use a disc of the same type,
such as a game disc, a DVD movie, or a music CD, to test whether the problem is
the specific disc.
8. Consider exchanging the disk or try the game in a different Xbox 360.
9. If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact Xbox Customer Service. To
obtain support in the US, Canada, or Puerto Rico for the Xbox, please call
1-800-4MY-XBOX (469-9269).

It's nice to see that at least they replied with something of a solution for you, but it bothers me that they are sending you to Microsoft when it's their game that's the problem.  Has anybody reading these posts tried working with Microsoft on this issue, and if so, what has their answer been?  Has it been to contact LucasArts?

Here's the 'answer' I got from LucasArts 3 weeks ago along with the message I sent them (the customer number and case number were X'd out by me):

I had this problem happen to me twice. Both times it was at the river. I just thought my system froze the first time, the 2nd time it happened i was mad. I dont like playing for 30+ minutes to have my game freeze. Now i hear of a 2nd spot that it freezes at, right near the very end!!! Gees. I wish the game makers would make a patch for download to fix this. I only need 1 more gold brick and its in this superstory.

here is a picture of the freeze if anyone cares to see it.

Re: Episode VI Superstory - Game Freeze Official Thread
Ok 6th attempt at doing the Superstory.

After 4 tries and having it freeze at the river I managed to make it past the river.(I turned music off, blasted everything I could before crossing the river and then slowly went across as far up the screen as I could using C3PO so that the entire group would stick close.)

Now it freezes right at the cut scene for the falcon leaving the exploding death star.

Here is a question... Do the other Superstory still give you the Gold brick even if you don't get a new time and score ?(I'm not sure since I got both for the other two.)

Since it would seem to me that if the Superstory for VI was different and still gives you the brick for just making it, that would seem to be an admission on their part that they knew about this before even shipping it.

I'll have to scan the thread and see if there is anything I can do to help make it through that cut-scene(vibration off didn't work).

Hopefully they patch this dumb thing at some point. Since it's extremely frustrating to spend 40-60 minutes and have some bug ruin the whole thing. I just want my last brick. Argggggggggghhhhhhhhhh

I DID IT!!! YEAH! IM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!!!

I tried the superstory twice and it froze both times at the river. But this time i got past it, and didnt get the freeze while leaving the deathstar that i read about either. I dont know if this was just luck, but ill tell you what i did.

By the river.
- Turned off vibration
- Turned "bloom filtering" to 0/10...no idea what this is anyway.
- shot all plants before getting close to the river.
- shot all enemies that came across the river after us.
- changed to R2-D2 and walked as left as i could, then let everyone cross, and i moved back to the right and went up the grass.
 NO FREEZE!!!!

Leaving the deathstar was tricky because i have no idea where the freeze happens. But when i left i just drove out, no shooting at all, even if i was exploding into the pipes that were in front of me. i died alot but i made it through with no freeze.

I havent played this game in over a week, and it was the first game i played when i started my xbox 360 up. Not sure if this would make a difference. It might help if you play right when you turn your system on, instead of playing after an hour or so when its been in action, and hot. Good luck everyone, this bug really sucks, im just glad i was able to get passed it. All i have left for 100% is buy the X8, X10, and X12 cheats.

Re: Episode VI Superstory - Game Freeze Official Thread

I had the same freeze problem at the river location.  I was able to get past it by following the advice found here...  Blew up everything except the plants near the river.  Used R2 to get into the river by the dark force blocks and waited upstream until everybody got across.  I then went across as far left as possible...and it worked.  This was my fourth attempt...all other times I was a blaster character going as fast as I could shooting as much as I could.

I had never made it to the death star chapter, but took the advice to go slow and die often.  I didn't want to chance the possibility of freezing again.

Long story short, I now have 100% complete.

BTW, I used Bloom filtering=0, music off, vibration off for the entire story.

Thanks for all the help here!

Well I tried it again, and I got past the river by turning down the bloom and turning off vibration and turning off music and using R2.  I guess that's what let me across.  At the end I let the millenium falcon get blown up about 5-7 times but then it froze at the clip at the end.  It froze on those ewoks by the downed ST.  I really don't want to do this again.

Re: Episode VI Superstory - Game Freeze Official Thread
Finally. After having my system die (around the 17th of January) because of this Endor Game Freeze, it is finally back from repair and I was able to try these tips and my first time through (techinically my second but first time since it's been gone) I did it. I turned bloom to 0, rumble and music off and played thru the super story. On Endor, I waited upstream for my team to cross and then I joined them as R2D2. I played thru the entire level and completed it. At the Death Star I spent a few minutes dieing in the firey blast when I just decided this was not worth it so I gunned it out and after the cutscenes I got my golden brick with a time of 1 hr and 4 minutes (I got enough studs).

Thanks to all those who experiemented and found the methods that have helped me and I wish everyone luck and success with being able to finally beat this BS bug that LucasArts is plauging us with.

Good Luck,

I bought this game on release day and have finally had some time to really sit down and enjoy this game. Sad to say that it's probably the very first batch straight from LucasArts and count me in on a defective copy. I decided to play Superstory mode for kicks before calling it a day and I spent an hour only to have the damn thing freeze on me after crossing the river. Filtering off, music off, and as always vibration off. Those that had it work, did you alter these settings before entering Superstory mode or during?

OFFICIAL ANSWER

Death Star II:

Solution:  Turn off vibration.

Reason:  During this part of the game, the Xbox 360 is working itself into a frenzy.  It has to manage the timer, manage your stud amount, create the flaming fire that chases you, send the demand that your controller vibrate (wirelessly, for most of us), switch cutscenes, ect.  But the vibration is probably the most stressful.

If not: If this does not work, the only thing is to make sure your Xbox console is not close to anything generating heat (T.V., computer, heater, etc).  If it still doesn't work, your game is a defect and you must swap it.

Battle of Endor:

Solution:  Walk into the river.  Go roughly 3 steps left.  Be sure all characters are visible on screen.  Allow them to cross, then follow.

Reason:  Common glitch among earlier game discs.  I myself bough the game after it came out, and mine was not glitched.

If not:  Your game must be exchanged for a new one.

END OF STORY AND THREAD.

For those of you wondering, I do have a gold account.

Your advice is quite sound (tho how to just exchange the game for a new one is not clear) but it is such a pompous message. So it is actually a recognised fault and LucasArts admit the software is faulty? Funny how I have never seen anyone get that answer from LucasArts.

I am not sure if this is an "official" answer or not but it reads like it is written by a self-important idiot, I dont see it as "the end of the story and thread", people only find out about such a problem when it happens to them, after which they come looking on here for advice.
