Ultimate Spider-Man Review

Hi, and welcome to my Ultimate Spider-Man Review.

Delta Spartan's Quote: " ...truly the best Spider-Man game to date, but it could be improved."

Another game based on our tight-wearing superhero. After Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 made their debut on the Xbox, I bet most fans would have to wait 'till Spider-Man 3 came out for another game. However, that isn't true. Activision, the crew responsible for the partially successful Spider-Man 2 game, and the partially successful Spider-Man game, created another video game. Ultimate Spider-Man. This comic-book style game is truly the best Spider-Man to date, but it could be improved.

To start off, let me just say that Ultimate Spider-Man has MANY tokens you can collect, resulting on new costumes, proceeding through the story, and, of course, finishing the game. The game, by the way, is actually pretty long. The storyline will take from 6-8 hours, perhaps, to complete. But, all the tokens will take months, even if heavily played. There are different types of tokens. Landmark Tokens. These are probably the easiest to find. They are in front, or somewhere around, a special building or bridge or something like that. Comic-Book Tokens. Second easiest to find. They are scattered around Queens and Manhattan, but are not heavily hidden. Secret Tokens. You can probably guess, that these are the hardest to find. These are heavily hidden. Finding them, or at least all of them, is pretty hard. So you will find finishing this game a bit challenging. All I can say to help finding these tokens, is that look behind billboards, dark places, or very narrow places in alleys or places like so. The others, just look around. Rooftops, streets, alleys, and places like that are the most common.

The storyline is pretty good. It consists of MANY different comic-book characters, but not all are Spider-Man. For example, Wolverine makes an appearance. Players will have fun beating him(he's one of the first few boss battles).

The gameplay of the game is amazing! First off, swinging is EXTREMELY easy, and moving as Venom is EASIER. Oh, yeah! You can play as Venom! While not being able to swing, his amazing jumping power makes him much faster than our swinging superhero. Some boss battles in the game don't make sense, like the Shocker battle. Simply webbing him up hurts him significantly. Besides that, the boss battles are excellent. With Venom, your incredible strengh allows you to hurl cars and other heavy objects at your enemies, hurting them significantly. With Spider-Man, you're much faster than MOST enemies you will encounter. Some will not be faster, but just as fast. You will occasionally switch from Spider-Man to Venom and back again. Each character has its own gaming style. With Spider-Man, you will have to acomplish City Goals, which include: City Events(people needing help) Tokens Collected, Combat Tours Collected(I will explain this later), and Race Tokens Collected(Same as Combat Tours). Thereafter, you will get a green dot on your map, you go there and you start a mission. Most Spider-Man missions are basically just beating an enemy or something like that. With Venom, most missions are escaping the soldiers who are trying to capture you, which will result in HUGE disasters(for them, that is). You will escape, with soldiers and helicopters on your tail. What I like about the missions, is that they don't get repetive, something that happens with a lot of superhero games. Each mission is unique, while some aren't good, most are. The controls for this game are good. One bad thing for Venom's side of the game, is that you need to feed. Any  human will work. Strangely, enemies give you less power than normal humans, and super enemies won't allow you to take power, and will brake through your grasp. By feeding, you will regain health. You will notice, however, that your health slowly decreases, becoming a problem. How? During the heat of battle, enemies unit will continue to fire, making it frustrating, not hard, to feed. This makes Venom missions a little more frustrating than Spider-Man missions, but its amazing gameplay makes it up.

The Graphics for this game is very cool. Why? The entire game is based on a comic-book, with comic-book graphics. What the *** do I mean by this? It's a moving comic-book. Not only are the graphics pure, but it's detail is amazing. Occasionally during cutscenes, it will switch from several "pages", with expressions such as, " BOOM!" or "BAM!". The graphics are truly unique. The sounds for this game are awesome. The voice acting is amazing, especially when Venom says his cool lines. The music is heart-pumping. It matches perfectly with what's going on.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. My review on Ultimate Spider-Man.

Story: 8.9

Gameplay: 9.7

Graphics: 9.1

Sounds: 9.6

Overall: 9.3

The gameplay is highlighted because I belived that is where the game's highest score should be on.

Delta Spartan's Final Word: " The game is the best superhero game out there, but it can be improved. Something I hope they do if a Ultimate Spider-Man 2 comes along."

COMBAT TOURS

Combat Tours are actually pretty fun. It's just basically starting one near the icon, and there will be a green dot on your map. What this means is that you go there, and a gang(there are different types) will be there. Beat em', and another green dot. Basically keep doing this, and you will have finished the Combat Tours. Combat Tours are most common in Mahanttan, since there are only a few in Queens.

RACE

Races are...well, races. You start one near the icon and tgen you have to race through the obstacles. Races are most common in Queens, with only a few in Mahanttan.

OVERALL:

Overall, the Combat Tours and Races are a nice additon to this game.

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man Review
I got this for my Xbox 360, and after having been disapointed by the poor emulators for many of the other Xbox games, I first have to say this runs great on the 360.

Everything the OP said I agree with, love the comic art style, the quick controls, the interesting comic story (Im not a Spider Man fan), and tons of things to collect in the large open ended map.

If you are looking for a very cheap ($9.00) original Xbox game of very high quality and replayability, pick up this high quality game now.

I recently bought ultimate spidey, to play on my 360 on my HD Wide. What settings does the game run best on?
