Xbox Live Video Marketplace FAQ - part 1

Video Marketplace FAQ - part 1

How do I get to Video Marketplace?

To access Video Marketplace, sign in to Xbox Live, then:

  • On the Media blade, select Video Marketplace, or
  • On the Xbox Live blade, select Xbox Live Marketplace, Media and Entertainment.

Video Marketplace looks the same as before. Why don't I see movies or TV shows?

The new Video Marketplace content is currently available only in the United States. If you live in the United States and still can't see the new area, press the Xbox Guide button on your controller, press Y to restart the Xbox Dashboard, and try again.

What's the difference between a rental and a purchase?

Video rentals are video downloads that expire after a period of time (for example, a 14 day rental). After you start watching the video, play it as often as you want for 24 hours, after which the rental expires. If you want to watch a video again after the rental expires, or if you delete it before it expires, you must rent the video again.

Video content marked as a video purchase (including free videos that are marked as a video purchase) can be viewed as many times as you want after download. If you delete video purchase content, you may be able to download that content again later for no additional charge.

Downloaded content can be viewed only on an Xbox 360 console. You can't copy or stream it to portable players, PCs, or other devices.

What's the difference between HD and SD?

High Definition (HD) content is optimized for those users who have their Xbox 360 console connected to a high definition display. Because more data is required for high definition, the content is usually bigger and takes longer to download than standard definition content. Standard Definition (SD) content is smaller and takes less time to download. If your console is connected to a standard definition display, you should download SD content where available.

Why does a checkmark appear for the SD version when I purchase the HD version?

Purchasing an HD version of a video also gives you the ability to download the SD version under the same license. This applies only to purchases, since rentals are a one-time download only.

How do I find my downloaded videos?

After you download a video from Video Marketplace, go to the Media blade and select Video, Console. You can play, resume, and delete videos from the Video area.

Do I have to wait for my download to complete before watching it?

No. You can start watching some videos before they have finished downloading. After starting a video download, watch for a notification that says the video is ready to play, then press the Xbox Guide button on your controller. If you miss the notification, select your partially downloaded video from your active download list or from the video area on the Media blade. Fast forward, reverse, and skip can’t be used until the video has finished downloading. All playback commands are supported after the content has been completely downloaded.

What is partially downloaded content?

Content that is currently being downloaded or was stopped in the middle of a download is displayed in Memory area of the System blade. Incomplete downloads appear with a yellow warning icon.

How do I manage my downloads?

Video rentals and purchases are added to your active downloads list, which can hold up to six items. To see your active downloads and their status:

  • In the Xbox Guide, select Personal Settings, Active Downloads, or
  • In the Xbox Live blade, select Xbox Live Marketplace, Active Downloads.

If your Xbox 360 Hard Drive runs out of space, active downloads will pause and you will receive a device full notification. Free up more space by deleting content in the Memory area on the System blade.

To view your download history from Xbox Live Marketplace, go to the Xbox Live blade, select Xbox Live Marketplace, Account Management, Download History, then select an item to view item info, download it again, or find it on your console.
