No, it's not the firewall.  I am also getting this problem but I currently have my firewall turned off.

I am experiencing the exact same problem.  I get the same error message even after connecting my PC directly using a crossover cable.  Firewall turned off.  This is strange since previously I had no problems using my network.  I wonder if the Media Player 9.0 requirement has anything to do with it since we are now at Media Player 10.0?  I am at a loss, literally, since I just purchased $10 of karaoke songs and I can't transfer them to the Xbox.

You have to prepare your files from your Pc first by using the program that you should of downloaded!  Then select the files you want then hit finish, your pc will prepare them and when its done you will be able to select the next button,  then and only then you should use the import button on the Xbox!!  Your firewall might give you a warning,  hit accept and away you go!

1.  Start your computer and your Xbox with the Music Mixer cd in your xbox and listen to some music whielst doing this

2. Make sure you have the Xbox music mixer PC tool downloaded on your pc

3. Run the program and follow the on screen prompts and prepare your tracks

4.  when the Mp3 tracks are prepared and ready for transfere you have 5 mins to activate the transfere

5.  On your Xbox,  you need to select music player and then select Import then PC and then it should be able to find your pc and automatically transfere the music tracks

6. if step 5 doesn't work Add me to your msn messenger and I'll talk you through it whielst doing it myself

Hi ... just wanted to document this for anyone having this connection problem.

It used to work for me too but we haven't used Music Mixer in ages (over a year) .... anyhoo ... something in XP broke this program.  Not sure if it's Media Player 10 or a security fix or something else ...

To get round this I installed a fresh copy of XP (and didn't do any updates).

Works great.  Problem solved.

Called Microsoft XBox support and they don't know what exactly broke the PC tool.

Kind of a drastic fix for some people I know.  I have Virtual PC so it's not too hard to re-install a fresh copy of XP.

so the only way to get it working right is to do as you did with the reinstall of xp with no updates?

Yep ... like I say ... kinda a drastic fix. I tried uninstalling WMP10 (good look with that), but still had the problem. Could be BITS2.0 or some other network level fix. Don't know. I'm a MCSD and I spent 2+ days on this. Couldn't figure it out. I use Virtual PC so it's not too bad reinstalling. Maybe you can borrow a laptop or something to download your music? Good luck. Lee

I've had Xbox Music Mixer for a while, and I've been able to transfer files fine in the past. It had been ages since I last did it, though. When I tried today, I encountered this same problem. I did find a way around it without doing anything drastic.

As per a suggestion in the official MS support page for this issue, I disabled all other network connections. My PC has two ethernet ports listed, two 1394 firewire ports, and a connection through my Pocket PC. I disabled all but the ethernet port I use to connect to my home network, and file transfers are now working fine. That was the only change I made. No reinstalling of windows or anything, and I am using XP Pro SP2 with all current updates an WMP 11.

Hope this helps someone. I had just about given up on being able to do file transfers before I found this fix.
