Can anyone tell me the best level / world to defeat vast numbers of Vahki as I need to destroy 250 and 500 of these beasties and I'm not too sure who or what they are.

One of the "3%" that've had a Red Light Console.

Vahki are the ones which stand upright with the pointy heads.

I found that the best way to reach the 250 was to forget about trying to get it during the individual levels - but look to unlock bonus level 3. Bonus Level 3 is all about blasting Vahki, so 2 or 3 runs through that after it's been unlocked should get you the achievement - that's  how I got it.

You can get your 250 Vahki on the secret level 3 - you buy the level for lego points at the sales stand at the main game lobby.  It is ALL vahki.

They also infinitely spawn in a few of the boss battles (the forest and fire ones for sure) just kill enough to turn gold and then beat up as many as you need. Lovely.
