Bomberman Act: Zero Achievement FAQ

I decided to spruce up the community with a little Achievement FAQ. Hopefully this will help a few new aspiring Bombermen out there. Feel free to ask questions in PM if there's anything too confusing. ;)

Single Player Achievements

Here are the single player achievements.. you can obtain these in either FPB or Standard Bomberman play. While it's true that there is no save feature in this game, getting to the end isn't as hard as it seems. I was able to do it on my third try, and have beaten the game three times since then just for the heck of it.

If you are going to attempt it, make sure you allocate two hours game time. This is a Bomberman endurance test. ;) I suggest using Standard play. This way you can see the entire level at all times. Using FPB mode just hinders your viewable area. Hearts are worth much more in Standard then they are in FPB mode and you will be getting plenty of those on your way to the end.

Make sure you try to get as many hearts and power-ups as you can in the beginning. Once you get to level 30, you should have Bombthru, Wallthru, Infinite Bomb and Linebomb. With that combination you can completely destroy any level in a matter of seconds. In the end you should have the following achievements:

Clear Round 10!
You have cleared 10 screens in Single Battle mode.

Clear Round 20!
You have cleared 20 screens in Single Battle mode.

Clear Round 30!
You have cleared 30 screens in Single Battle mode.

Clear Round 40!
You have cleared 40 screens in Single Battle mode.

Clear Round 50!
You have cleared 50 screens in Single Battle mode.

Clear Round 60!
You have cleared 60 screens in Single Battle mode.

Clear Round 70!
You have cleared 70 screens in Single Battle mode.

Clear Round 80!
You have cleared 80 screens in Single Battle mode.

Clear Round 90!
You have cleared 90 screens in Single Battle mode.

You reached the Land of Despair
Single Battle mode is all clear! Get back to the surface!

You should also have the following Survival achievements:

Survival Time 200
You have cleared Single Battle mode within 200 minutes.

Survival Time 150
You have cleared Single Battle mode within 150 minutes.

Survival Time 100
You have cleared Single Battle mode within 100 minutes.

It should not take you more then 100 minutes to beat it. This is 100 in-game minutes, and does not account for load times in between levels.. which brings the actual game time much higher in real life. ;(

General Bomberman Achievements

Here are some general achievements that you will obtain over time.. these account for both offline and online play:

1,000 Bombs
You have set 1,000 bombs.

10,000 Bombs
You have set 10,000 bombs.

100,000 Bombs
You have set 100,000 bombs.

1,000,000 Bombs
You have set 1,000,000 bombs.

Simple enough? Any time you place a bomb in the game, it will count towards this achievement. Getting Linebomb and Infinite Bomb power-ups together will make this much easier to obtain since you can place many bombs at one time.

Block Break 1,000
You Have Destroyed 1,000 Soft Blocks.

Block Break 10,000
You Have Destroyed 10,000 Soft Blocks.

Block Break 100,000
You Have Destroyed 100,000 Soft Blocks.

Block Break 1,000,000
You Have Destroyed 1,000,000 Soft Blocks.

Like the bomb achievements, any time you break a soft block it will count towards these. The number one hardest acheivement in Act Zero is Block Break 1,000,000. Doing this would take years of grinding the game, because there are only so many soft blocks per level and you cannot create more with power-ups like you can for the bomb achievements.

Keep in mind, extremely few people have this achievement legitimately, and I would seriously question any profile that has it. That's how difficult and time consuming it is. It is one of the hardest achievements ever created on Xbox 360, if not the hardest.

Kill Achievements

Kill 100
You have defeated 100 opponents.

Kill 500
You have defeated 500 opponents.

Kill 1000
You have defeated 1000 opponents.

For these, you have to kill people online with your own bomb. You must get the kill, and if an opponent kills themselves by a pressure block or their own bomb it will not count.

Battle and Room Achievements

Battle 100
You have had 100 battles.

Battle 1000
You have had 1000 battles.

Battle 10,000
You have had 10,000 battles.

Room Master
You have created a room and fought a battle.

Room Master 10
You have created rooms and fought 10 battles.

Room Master 100
You have created rooms and fought 100 battles.

Now we are getting into online-only territory. You have to join a room or create a lobby online to get these. As anyone reading this is no doubt aware, this game is not populated well online, so these might take a bit of effort nowadays. Host Battle Royal (1 match) rooms to get these achievements in conjunction with the Battle Royal achievements below.

Again, getting Battle 10,000 is probably impossible for most of us. I sure don't have it and never will. You'd make yourself crazying trying to organize that many matches nowadays when the game is not populated at all.

Battle Score Achievements

Battle Score 5,000
You have reached a Battle Score of 5,000 points.

Battle Score 10,000
You have reached a Battle Score of 10,000 points.

Battle Score 50,000
You have reached a Battle Score of 50,000 points.

Battle Score 100,000
You have reached a Battle Score of 100,000 points.

Battle Score 1,000,000
You have reached a Battle Score of 1,000,000 points.

This is your ranked score. Raise your score and you'll get these in time. Try Battle Royal matches, you get more points for the more people you kill in a row! Keep killing without dying for faster gains.

Battle Royal Achievements

Battle Royal - Kill 10
You have defeated 10 people in Battle Royal.

Battle Royal - Kill 30
You have defeated 30 people in Battle Royal.

Battle Royal - Kill 50
You have defeated 50 people in Battle Royal.

Battle Royal - Kill 100
You have defeated 100 people in Battle Royal.

You get these by both killing people and winning Battle Royal matches in a row. Every person you kill in a Battle Royal goes towards this total (which you can see next to your name as you play the match) but if you get killed even once while in a Battle Royal.. the number will reset. This makes them very difficult to obtain legitimately.

S-Panel Achievements

These might have been the longest running achievement secret in Xbox 360 history! For months and months no one could unlock them and e-mails to Hudson went unanswered. But eventually people figured them out and now they are public knowledge, thanks to the magic of the internet!

All can be obtained in single player. They are a bit weird to explain but I'll try my best.

Secret Panel 1
You have obtained Secret Panel "B."

Explode two power-ups at once with bomb fire. Can be done on any level. You may see this pop up occasionally without doing anything special.

Secret Panel 2
You have obtained the "Bomberman?" Secret Panel.

Break all soft blocks without killing enemies. Can only be done in level 1 and every multiple of 8 afterwards. Meaning levels 1, 9, 17, etc.

Secret Panel 3
You have obtained the "Diggerman?" Secret Panel.

Do not use any bombs for the first two minutes of play. You may move around and run away from enemies. Can only be done in level 2 and every multiple of 8 afterwards. Meaning levels 2, 10, 18, etc.

Secret Panel 4
You have obtained the "16-Shot" Secret Panel.

Explode 16 bombs in a chain reaction with one minute left in the level. Cannot use line bomb. Can only be done in level 3 and every multiple of 8 afterwards. Meaning levels 3, 11, 19, etc.

This achievement is named after Takahashi "16Shot" Meijin, who is capable of hitting a button on a gaming controller 16 times in one second. :)

Secret Panel 5
You have obtained the "Uhi-Uhi" Secret Panel.

Do not move from starting position for 1 minute. Can only be done in level 4 and every multiple of 8 afterwards. Meaning levels 4, 12, 20, etc.

Special Achievements

Special 1
You have won without obtaining any Power Up Panels.

I was able to do it on my first online match. Sometimes your opponent will kill themselves immediately by accident. It happens! You can also do it in single player as well. The first level AI is very stupid and will not attack you, it simply tries to break soft blocks. You could wait it out and it will most likely kill itself or get crushed eventually. ;) Avoid power-ups by exploding them with bombs.

Special 2
You have played with both male and female frames.

You have to play both male and female Bomberman avatars at some point for this one.

Special 3
You have played using all of the characters.

You have to play both gender and all the color variations of each Bomberman avatar.

Joke Achievements

Here are some achievements that were originally designed for you to avoid, but since they give you 5 points each, many people don't mind getting them. ;)

Pressure Block 100
You have been crushed to death 100 times by pressure blocks.

Simple enough, just get killed by pressure blocks while online. Those are the blocks that fall from the sky when the time is up.

Self 100
You have died 100 times to bombs you set.

Explode yourself with your own bomb for this one. Anyone who plays enough will obtain it eventually.

Draw 100
You have died 100 times to time-up draws.

Don't be fooled by the name of this one, you will not get the achievement by drawing matches. You actually need a time-up draw, which are rare because the only way to get a time-up is to play a room without pressure blocks. Battles without pressure blocks can be very tedious.. so many people opt not to create rooms that way.

If you do create a room without pressure blocks, wait until the timer reaches zero in the room and a voice will say "Time's Up!" then the match will restart. Do this 100 times for the achievement. Boring, but that's how it goes.

Re: Achievement FAQ

I always play standard, as it's more like the old school Bomberman :) I didn't know about the left stick shield, that should be helpful. So while I'm in the process of collecting powerups by clearing all of the softblocks in lvls 1-20, what's the best way to kill off my enemies once the level is empty? I usually don't have too many problems and try to trap them in the corners, but sooner or later end up eating it :) I'm betting a little more practice is in order too.

Thank you for the tips. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well, the computer’s AI can be pretty predictable in the first few levels. It will place a bomb on a soft block, stand somewhere safe, watch it explode.. and do it all over again, ad infinitum. In this case, you’ll want to walk up to it while it’s in it’s watching stage and put a bomb near it.. in such a way that it has to walk thru it’s own bomb fire to escape. When an AI senses danger from your bomb, it *must* move. It isn't smart enough to stay put and wait for it's own bomb to explode before moving. Use this to your advantage. ;)

Later on when they become more aggressive, if you have Linebomb and Infinite Bomb.. you can use those to “trap the grid” so to speak.. this is an old school Bomberman strategy whereby you shoot a Linebomb vertically and another Linebomb horizontally, so you trap all areas of a grid corner. Anything in that corner gets obliterated. This technique is widely used online, and the only way to escape it is with Bombthru. None of the AI in single player know how to use Bombthru.. even if they pick it up by accident, they simply will not try to walk thru a bomb. In fact, they don't know how to use any of the powerups they get.

Man, do I get excited when I talk about Act Zero or what? I need a cold shower.

Re: Achievement FAQ
Yeah BanStyle is right, beating single player is all about amassing powerups. The top 3 power ups are obvious, Line Bomb, Infinite Bomb, Block Through. If you can pick up these power ups early in the game you will cruise through the levels pretty quickly.

My general suggestions are about the same as Ban here, for the first 15 or so levels break every softblock. Don't kill your opponent unless you are forced to. This is when the AI is dumb and slow, so there is little danger in taking your time to get every power up on the board.

When you have block through run over to your enemies in their starting corners and drop a bomb when they are trapped. You can kill about 1/2 to 3/4 of your opponents right off the bat if you have good speed. I would suggest if you use this move, to keep Time Bomb instead of the purple bombs that explode through the soft block (cant remember the name right now). The purple bombs will erode the softblocks and release your enemy from his confines. So, with the time bomb or even regular bomb it will keep your enemy trapped until they blow their way out or you run over and kill em.

Oh, and a great move on and offline is a wave of bombs. I don't see too many people using this method but if you have good speed (like 3 or 4 speed ups), infinite bombs and line bomb you can do it, here's how;

Shoot a line of bombs down a corridor leaving the at least one back row empty so you don't kill yourself, run to the next corridor to its side and shoot another line again leaving a empty back row, then run to the next and shoot another line, by this time your first line of bombs will be exploding and igniting the line next to it (this is why you need the speed). You can continue this process and completely fill the board with bombs & explosions (thus cheating the 64 bombs on the board cap the developers set). This will force your enemy to keep backing away until he is against a wall. At this point they will start running down their only empty corridor towards you, this is where you send one last line of bombs at them and the wave of explosion will ignite that last line immediately and completely trap and kill your enemy. Even if they have a heart you can keep em trapped by going back a row and starting the process again continuing the explosion you started, Infinitely.

Oh yeah! Burn Baby, Burn!

I have a plan I'm going to test out for this that should help everyone. First you need remote bombs. Lay out bombs at the bottom of the screen in the pattern below.

00000000
0
00000000

This should allow you plenty of room to create a chain reaction of 16+ very quickly. Remote detonate and see if the panel appears. I'll be trying this throughout the night, and I think level 11 will be the most suitable.
