My Zune stopped syncing new music today.  So when I called support for it, the answer was to try a soft reset.  Did that and it did nothing.  Still wouldn't sync the new stuff.  Then she asked for permission to delete the whole hard drive.  I told them I didn't want to do that because if it's wrong, I'm screwed.  After a couple of reassuring minutes, I tenatively agreed.  Guess what... it didn't fix the problem.  Now they want me to send it in for repair.  Freaking great.  I got it for my 30th birthday last year (as the long time regulars of the thread will remember) since I don't have the receipt they won't honor the 1 year warranty from the date I purchased, but will only honor from the date it was shipped to Target which was last March.  So they want me to pay for the repair.  Angry [:@]

If you complain enough, they will probably cave.  There is no reason a device should stop working conveniently one month after the warranty from the store date is up.

Ethan - I am also looking forward to the release of NGII. It will be a blast and hopefully it's a tad more difficult that Black and the first one on Xbox. Should be hellafun! I am however getting GTA on release... My wife already preordered me that special edition or whatever. All I know is that it comes with a bunch of crap I don't need, but it should be neat.

Zinacef - LoL! That's a pretty funny quote. That's the way I used to feel about every baby. Now I just think it's a squishy bean...

I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a tech, and then their supervisor.  Spelled it all out for them, and the super told me that they are essentially ticket takers and are have no authority to give out free repairs.  The repair ships to the center, and if there is no receipt in the box, an invoice will be sent, or a credit card will be charged.  There is no one to talk to or reason with.  I'm contacting Target to see if I can get a copy of that receipt.

Does the zune work, like play songs and movies fine and the only problem is syncing? Is it charging when its plugged up to the pc? If it charges but doesnt sync then it could be the pc or the software not recognizing the device, which is what happened to mine. Have you uninstalled/reinstalled the zune software? I'm just trying to help you avoid the headache, I went through all that and finally got mine to work again.

LoL! Same here! I had to do all of that. It seems that is a mandatory part of using Vista for every program.

That would be because Vista is a huge bloated piece of crap OS.

I unistalled/installed last Novemeber after the firmware upgrade.  Lost all my music.  I will never do that again.  I lost too much music that way.  I've gone through everything at this point.  My only prayer is finding that receipt, which Target told me they can't get it from a year ago.

ethan,

Move your music to a different location (you have all of it on your computer as well as your Zune, right?) and then uninstall and reinstall.  That way you won't lose any information.  If you need help, I can try to walk you through it or help you remotely, just let me know.

I think you are meaning when you sync it up for the first time it has to clear the zune.... but I believe you can choose the connect zune as a guest option instead that way you wont loose everything... if it is the files on the pc you are worried about, lost is right just move them or copy them to an external drive or something.

Isn't there a way to do manual management of the music on the Zune rather than having it always sync?

I've tried to manually do it.  I'm going to check it out at home, since that is the main PC for it.

You can manually add and delete the files to and from the zune... you can change it from auto sync.

Thought I would jump in and say "hey" so um "hey".  I myself am a "gamerdad".  Although my one and only son is way too young to get into gaming (only 2), he seems to be a big fan of Ratchet and Clank (I know PS2, but he enjoys it!), its nice to know I am not the only "gamerparent" out there.

Here's to seeing some of you online.
