  • Good day all. I was just wondering if it possible to have 1 Acct on 2 consoles and how can I do it?

    '

You see I use up all the hours in the day on the Xbox. Call me selfish. ;) But my kids and wife would like to use the Kinect and watch movies on the big screen.  I would like it so If we are playing a Game. We are in the Den & the others that are playing Kinect or watching Movies are in the leaving room. At the same time. If I have to pick up a new console then Sure. Witch I know I'll have to. But can we have 2 consoles on say  1 family acct?

LOL at spoilers. It's the internet, What do you think is going to happen if your looking it up. LOL

  • The easiest way to do it is create another account as you can't have the same account active at the same time on more than one console.

If there is more than 2 consoles in the house then I'd create a family account as you get 4 accoutns for the price of 2, otherwise I'd just create another account and have one for yourself on one console and one for the kid or kids on the other but sometimes even with more than 1 child in the house can warrant to have a family account so that each child can have access to their own account.

  • So what your saying is. In the end I'll need 8 Acct's? I thought I saw something about a USB drive or something that came out since the new dash board. I thought there would be something I could do. It is in the same house after all. Oh well I'll just have to tell them They have wait.

Depends on what you're asking. Can you have one profile simultaneously signed onto Xbox Live on two consoles? No. You can have them both signed in and connected to Live, but as soon as you play a game, or watch a movie on one of them, the other will be signed out.

As far as I know, you can have different accounts under one family pack on two different consoles. Alternatively, you can just create an extra account for the second console.

  • OK let's see if this help's to answer my question. Say I'm playing AC Revelations On the Small screen. AKA Old Console. My son's playing Kinect on the Big screen. AKA New console. Wife wishes to watch a Movie with me. So the kids can switch over to the Old console and I can switch of to the new Console and watch Netflix.

    '

Only with one Family pack. Can it be done?

Yes. As long as it's a different profile under the family account, you can have them simultaneously signed on to XBL on two consoles.

  • Ok sounding good. See this is the only thing holding us back from getting a Family Acct. But if we can have 2 consoles for the house, then we may just get it. This is that time of year that we spend the must time in the house and for us fighting over the Xbox and Big screen. Isn't good.

Can anyone give me some Pro's and con's. If / when I do this? Please.

You can read all about Family Packs here. You get 12 months of Xbox Gold for 4 profiles, which means you can effectively have 4 profiles signed on to 4 different consoles at the same time. Also,  "If you currently have an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership, you will get a discount on your Gold Family Pack membership based on how many months remain on your existing Gold Membership".

  • Very easy. I use an 8 GB Xbox certified stick made by Sandisk.

Basically, have your profile on the stick, and transfer the stick between whichever console you want to use at the time for gaming, and have another gold profile with your netflix info to watch movies on the console you wish.

This can also be achieved with the cloud storage feature, but I don't use that because it can't be accessed if you want to play while the net's down.

  • it also depends on what the second profile is doing.....if you use netflix then the GOLD account that netflix is synced with can only be used at that time, but if you kid want to just play kinect and not online when just sign on to the xbox free, u can take your account with you to the other console while hes playing kinect.  then when you and your wife want to watch a movie or netflix then you can still use your account while the kid is still playin kinect

Yeah now that my son has TRIED live. He doesn't like it. He can't play the games he likes and I let him. It's not that he's going into Multiplayer lobbies. It's that now he just can't play them, because of his age. It's really sad. Because he is a good kid. Vary respectful for others. Not like a lot of these 20 year old's. I, myself. Would rather play with a kid that has my sons respect. Then a lot of 20 year old's that you find on Live..

He would just like to play NHL with his friend that lives across town. But he Can't. IMO it's Hockey and it was to cold for them to play outside and or supper is going to be ready in a hour. So why can't he play with his friend?.

My Gold time is running out next month and we'll see. Really I don't think we are going to do it any more.

I agree, a parent ought to have discretion over what games their child is able to play. If you feel strongly enough about it, you can always create a new account with a different date of birth, and if you do decide to go the Family Pack route, you can just add the new account to the plan.

  • I currently have 2 consoles. I don't have kids yet, but my wife likes to play kinect and netflix. My bedroom console is my gaming console and I bought a new xbox with kinect for the living room. I can play my account on both consoles, but you can't be signed on to live on 2 consoles at once.

So, for now, I made a new account for my wife and she has a free month of gold. After that's up, we'll have to decide if it's worth it to pay for gold on her account. (I'm thinking yes, because she's on netflix all the time)

    1) There's no way of knowing someone's true age on Xbox. It is what you say it is. 2) I'm not saying to lie. You can create an account for an adult, and allow your son to borrow it. You have the right to create an account if you're 18 or over:

    -

"By creating an account or otherwise accepting this contract, you represent that you are at least 18 years old or have reached the age of “majority” where you live. Your parent or legal guardian must set up an account on your behalf and accept this contract if you are under 18 or have not reached the age of “majority”."

    -

    Just my opinion.

  • Thank you all for this infomation. But really all needed to know was is I have two consoles in the house, can we keep the Same Acct. / Gamer tags and how would it move from one console to the other.  I don't really like the USB idea. I can uerdstand the first time tho. Just so the New console knows the Gamer tag.

No Ideas if this works. Like I said. I would like to have 2 consoles in the house and a Family goal pack Acct. That we can switch from Small screen Old Xbox  to Big screen New Xbox with Kinect.

If I'm playing a game on the Old Xbox and my kids are playing on the Kinect. My wife comes home and wishes to watch a movie on Netflix with me. So the kids have to move to the small screen and I can move my profile AKA gamer tag to the big screen.

    '

    Will I/we have to?

    1. Use a USB flash drive to move our Profiles.
    2. Be able to use Cloud and be happy.
    3. Can't have 1 profile. On 2 consoles. I understand at the same time. But I mean if I log out on old and log in on New.

    Oh yeah another Question here.

If this works. Say can I go out and buy another game. Say any online Co-op game. Can my son and I play at the same time. Me on big screen he's on small?

  • 1. No, you can now download your profile to multiple xbox's.  Example, I have my profile on my 2 xbox's and at my friends house.  You no longer have to "Recover gametag" which took 20 minutes sometimes.

    2. Cloud is good and I use it for certain games, but if xbox live is down, then you can't play your saved games offline.

    3. You can have you proflie on as many consoles as you wish, you just can't be logged in from multiple consoles

    4. Yes, but you need 2 copies of the game.

  • The USB is better than it sounds... You don't have to transfer stuff off the stick to use it, it's like another memory source, and you keep the gamertag on it.

  • ^As long as you take care of it, and don't lose it. Plus your game saves will be on the USB, which you otherwise won't have access to on another console unless you utilize Cloud Storage.

  • You can leave the saves wherever you want, but putting them on the stick allows for the save to be played on multiple consols.

Cloud Storage allows this as well, of course.

  • Hate to say this, but we are doing it. I talked to my wife last night and she says to do it. First things first. We need the family pack. Getting it today. Then we are going to find a R2D2 console.

    '

So if I use the USB first to transport my Profile 's to the new Console. The we can just use Cloud when Switching consoles?

LOL at spoilers. It's the internet, What do you think is going to happen if your looking it up. LOL

  • Why not just recover your gamertags to your new console?  You only need to that once and then they will always be there.  I don't see the point of the whole usb thing.  If you move your saved games to Cloud, then they will be accessible on both consoles.

  • Level: 5
    AmbLevel10
  • That would work... My personal opinion on it though is that I don't rely on cloud, cause if the net is down and you can't access LIVE, then you can't play for the time being... And I've heard that using the recover gamertag can degrade the file info over time.

To each thier own. I just find the memory stick to be hassle free.

  • But If I do everything once and save. The new console should be fine with saving and loading right. Just as long as on 1 profile is on at a time. Not the same profile on both consoles.

  • I haven't gotten it yet. But it's waiting for me. I was just wondering when I Start Transferring files. What all comes with the 1 Profile?

  • What do you mean transferring files, though?

    -

    1) You can simply download your profile onto the second console, which will carry over your achievements, gamer pic, and profile details.

2)If you want access to your game saves, then I suggest copying your saves from your first console onto the Cloud. Then you'll have access to them on the second console. Otherwise copy them to a USB and move them onto the second console.

    3) If you have any marketplace purchases (games, DLC, etc.) you can download them onto the second console, but if you wish to access them while offline, or share them with anyone on that console, you'll need to do a licence transfer. If not, don't worry about it.

  • Thanks Bud You a huge help on here. What I was thinking was if I move Files. I would need the game Data to bring the Achievements. What a license transfer? I know I could look it up. But what is it and how can I do it? Just to help someone if they are also needing this help.

LOL at spoilers. It's the internet, What do you think is going to happen if your looking it up. LOL

  • Thanks:) Haha. And nope, your achievements are attached to your profile, so you can download your profile on console # 2, and your achievements will be there.

    -

A licence transfer? In a nut shell, the licence for anything you purchase (like DLC) is tied to your profile AND console. So, if you purchase something on console # 1, the licence is attached to console # 1, and that means you can use it while offline, and share it with everyone else on the console. You can also download it on console # 2, but you can't share it on that one because console # 2 doesn't have the licence. A licence transfer would move the licence from console # 1 to # 2, or vice versa, so you can share. More here.

May the Xbox and all things Microsoft never end. Praise MS.

  • Level: 3
  • OH ok. So it's best to download what ever DLC to the Console that will be playing that game.  I'm not going to Download a Kinect DLC to my #2 console. Since my #1 console has the Kinect.

    .

I just thought of another Question. But I think I already asked once before. LOL (One DLC on both Consoles?)

  • Level: 5

    One DLC on both Consoles?

You can do it. For example, if you buy DLC on console # 1, you can then download it on console # 2 (by going to your download history and redownloading it). The only catch is that on console # 2, you won't be able to share that DLC with anyone else, and you can only use it while connected to Live.

May the Xbox and all things Microsoft never end. Praise MS.

  • When you say share. Would that be say profile #2 AKA my son.

  • Level: 5
  • So if you buy DLC on console # 1, it will be on that console. Anyone on that console now or in the future will be able to use that DLC.

    -

Then, if you want that DLC on console # 2, you can redownload it, and it will now be on both of your consoles.

    -

BUT, only you can use the DLC on console # 2. No one else. They (your son) will have to use the DLC on console # 1.

    -

If you do a licence transfer, it will reverse it. So that everyone can use the DLC on console # 2, but only you can use it on console # 1.

May the Xbox and all things Microsoft never end. Praise MS.
