Re: XBOX Live account hacked and used.

When I logged of around 15:00 today I had a little over 800 microsoft points. I have just checked my emails and have had 2 emails one confirming purchase of 5000 microsoft points and one confirming the purchase of 500 microsoft points. I then tried to log into xbox live and I wasn't able to log into my account without recovering it. Once recovered, I now only have 90 microsoft points and the I apparently played Fifa 2012 today, I do not even own the game nor have I ever played it. Also according to the website I purchased a Premium Gold Pack today. None of this as been done by me.

Change your wlid and password immediately, you can do both from the account management page of the dash or through here
That prevents who ever did this recovering your account again.

Use a wlid that is not linked to another LIVE account. (make a brand new one if needed).

Phone support first thing Monday morning and have them open an 'unauthorised access ticket' on your account.

Same thing happened to me last game I played was Fifa 12 (which i've never played) and Rockband 2 which I don't own. Called Xbox support only crappy thing is they suspended my account for investigation guy said it would 25 days wtf!?!?

Got mine hacked too they bought a bunch of fifa12 card packs. Did you get a refund? I lost about 2000 MSP. I don't have my acct. connected to my credit card thank god. Is there anywhere online where you can file a claim?

Hi Nick - same thing happened to me last Friday! Fifa 12 game packs or whatever were purchased....MS support were excellent but my account has been suspended/de-activated for 25-30 days while they investigate!

Fifa seems to be flavour of the month as theres been other threads about fifa and accounts.

This has happened to me. Wish MS would speed up and give me back my account. Have contacted ms many times and have been told nothing will happen till the 25 days has lasped.

I'm therefore locked out of my out account and 1500ms points down throu no fault of my own.

Please can someone give me my account and points back asap so that i can continue using xbox live.

You'll get your points back and you'll be credited any Gold time during which the account was locked.

hmph count your self lucky if you get account back in 25 days. I logged the call on 4th of October and still waiting. Zero comms from investigtion team.

Basically told by support that you can't complain about the investigation team or the length of time it takes to resolve. So although I'm the only one affected by my account suspension, the Microsoft view is "Tough"

It happend to me on the dec 2nd, caught it happing, had 50 quid taken from my CC card, recovered gamertag, but didnt get chance to change password and got logged off. Guess what shows on my gamer card before it went off........................................ FIFA 12, DONT EVEN OWN NOR PLAYED THE GAME. Thanks EA. Oh they even changed my LIVE ID c.nts.

All CC cards and accounts now froze, have to wait 25 days + now. Had same account 8 years so i want it back. To be fair M$ did say they will refund me and i will get my account back. The guy was very helpful.

But this issue does appear to be growing fast.

Im in the same boat, woke up on the 4th Dec decided to have quick go on the xbox, couldn't log in, switched on pc to find 3 emails, 1 adding a new email address to my windows live account, 2 emails confirming 5000 points purchases (£83.00) (all at around 3:30 GMT)and what a surprise fifa content (i dont own the game) managed to reset password, remove email address and recover my profile but am at the mercy of MS investigating and refunding my money and unlocking my account. There are far too many people report this, there must have been a data breach somewhere!

Same thing has happened to me today, turned on my console to be greeted with a 'Last time you logged on was with a different console message' ! Checked my ms points (750) left  all gone , then realized my paypal account is also linked for purchases, Checked with paypal TW0 purchases of £42.00 been made and 'seem's to have been spent on gold bumper pack(s) ?? last game that was Played was FIFA 12 (which I dont even own)!

Anyway will call MS support in the morning , so for the moment changed my password but seems to be a couple of bogus email address added aswell so Im guessing they will get the new password also ?, and rung my bank to cancel my credit card & removed it from Paypal just to be sure.

I cant figure out how on earth they have done it, no-one plays the console but me ...same password & account ive used for donkeys years, no password reset request emails just one email saying Ive added a couple of wierd qq.com email address to my account ( which I cant seem to find on my account info anywhere) Pfffffff !

Whats the chances of me getting the money back from MS ? or should I just tell my bank to pursue it ......

Welcome to the FIFA hacked club ! It a pretty big club , MS doesn't think it is but we all know different, I had about 125 dollars stolen out of my bank account and my Live account taken , mines under investigation as we speak(hopefully) But they say it a phishing scam , I say it's some sort of back door hack. It seems to be a MS and EA thing, the only games I ever play are Battle Field and Madden. No FIFA even though when I look at my account I have played it when I don't even own it!

Happened to me yesterday.  I know not to give information to anyone for anything.

I just got hit yesterday with the FIFA 2012 log in and loss of several thousand points.

Just got hit today, I did at least get 15 Gamer Points from it.

When are MS or EA going to admit the number of compromised accounts or more importantly how this data is being obtained. I am always very secure with any online data being a Computer Networking Graduate having specialised in Security and also just not being an idiot I just know I was not scammed or phished. The fact that all of these hacks are related to Fifa 12 is more then a bit strange.

It happened to me to. Yesterday someone hacked into my account and purchased 10,000 MS Points, and spent them all on some FIFA things. I don't even own that game. What I found strange as well was the fact that somene added extra email address to my account, so any notification of changing the password would go to him too. I contacted MS, but I need to wait 28 days for the investigation to complete. Someone spent £85. MS need to admit that thir security system has been breached.

The email address attached to my account was from China. No surprise there.

Have you considered that these breaches may not be anything to do with MS security or EA and are more of a problem with individual users security?  Just look at the huge amount of Malware, viruses, Trojans and worms that are going round the net everyday.  Why bother to attack MS or EA directly, when there are literally millions of PC's out there that are just crying out to be compromised.  What is the point of having a strong password for LIVE if millions of computers out there are probably infected up to the hilt with unwanted malicious software and keygens?

Users need to insure their computers are clean of threats and are updated to the latest Windows security updates and antivirus software.  Many machines are found wanting in this area and that's a crying shame.  It's not enough to just look out for phishing and social engineering.

I fix computers for friends and family, and the amount of family machines that I've come across that were so badly infected with viruses that they couldn't even go online is just amazing.  Some machines didn't even have any security software!

As I've said before on previous threads, the 30 million or so active Xbox LIVE accounts pales in comparison to the perhaps 500 million Hotmail accounts that MS also provides, and provides for free.  Since Hotmail also uses the same Windows LIVE ID system that Xbox LIVE uses, if it has been compromised, it would be such a huge hack, MS simply wouldn't be able to hide it.  It would be impossible to cover up!

I just thought i would add this for u guys... I have a card on my account to pay for my gold  but if i was hacked they wouldnt be able to use it as it is a pre paid mastercard which means i can only spend the amount i top it up with u can get them for around £5.00 and as i said if u get hacked they cant spend what isnt there..

I too have lost all my points.  I had around 2000 and was locked out of my account but wasa able to recover it.  Whoever did it email is 2539142482@qq.com. This happened the other night.

Just because accounts are being taken doesn't mean it's Microsoft's fault. Take a look.

Just noticed this today.  4000msp stolen and 20,000msp's purchased.  $400 worth gone to FIFA games I don't own.  Contact number for XBL security is now down.

Your bank fraud line should be open on a Sunday, so it might be worth giving them a call and putting a block on it if you are worried.

i had the same thing done to me lost 2100 mp and i had the same email address which stole my wlid

the only way your xbox account will get taken over is if a) you share your email account and password in exchange for a promise of in-game unlockables b) you enter in the same log in details into a website that promises stuff (free points/live access) or any other phishing sites.  THERE IS NO WAY SOMEONE CAN GUESS BOTH YOUR EMAIL AND YOUR PASSWORD!!!!

Or theres a virus on the pc and it gets the password and email address used for xbox or the user comes across a link for "free microsoft points" if you click here

I had my xbox account just hacked/cloned/used whatever you want to call it....someone bought 10000 points on my account via paypal...played FIFA12 (which i dont own). Seems all to familiar a story here.

For the comments that the password must have been leaked/entered into a site/virus in my case cannot be...why....i have been a member of live for 3 years and have never once until all this mess started have i logged into xbox.com or anything to do with it. I set my gamer tag up and only time i go into anything to do with live is when i switch on my xbox. I have never put my live gamer account on a memory stick...never played on a friends console with it....it has never left MY xboxes.

It has only ever been on 2 xboxes...1 i am using now....and the other is in the attic with RROD.

The only computer i would have accessed the account with at the very start of my xbox live life is in the attic also...dead.

I can say i fully believe that there is a flaw somewhere in the security that has something to do with a game (EA fifa perhaps??) or live service that has exposed the gamer tags.

I have been able to change my password and id on my xbox account, but cannot go any further or play on live until my account is unfrozen on the box....which is supposedly going to take 25 days.

Is there somewhere we can voice our concerns about the whole FIFA12 thing cropping up...its seems to fall on deaf ears with the investigation team?

I would normally agree with 'Obsessvie power' but i dont in this case....not xbox connected directly (even though i am here for that reason) but hotmail.....i set up an account on hotmail for me and my girlfriends wedding....i set it up on an ipad in october 2011.....so picked an address..picked a password.....put MY main email address in the address book.....done..closed browser and ipad...never looked again at the account until end of jan 2012.....when i got an email from MY wedding account...ha ha i thought....logged on an found it had 49!!! spam emails and it had sent 235 spam email to various addresses including my own.

Explain that as being Phised....virus....or giving it out to anyone!!!!!! That is what i call a breach....and hotmail is one of the worst offenders!
