Bioshock 2. I have ammunition, but cannot use any guns

When playing Bioshock 2 it will not allow me to use any weapons except plasmids and the drill

Find a Gene Bank and unequip the Drill Specialist tonic.  The tonic will significantly reduce the Eve cost of using plasmids, but restricts the weapons you can use to the drill, hacking tool and research camera

Uh oh... that shouldn't have happened.

It appears you've found a glitch in the system.

I was having issues with this games stability going from pause menu then back to game. Also the game will randomly crash on GTX285 which is a high end DX10 generation card. The only way I could get the game some stability was by turning off Direct X 10. Lowering graphics settings had no effect but,  keeping DX10, and enabling SLI did. You may also want to get an DX11 card to be a more viable solution, or it could be a current NVIDIA driver issues.

  • For what it's worth, I'll get the "Save games can not be found" alert sometimes in Bioshock 2 and all I'll have to do at that point is delete any save file less than 1 mb.

I appreciate that a support FAQ exists here, but if I hadn't already figured out the solution to my problem this would just annoy me.  It gives one problem + solution, and spends more time explaining the DLC you can buy.  Why not spend an extra 5 minutes to include some more problems/solutions in the FAQ to possibly help more people?

  • I will edit the post later to fit that in. Thanks BTW it is the community as a whole not just my self who comes up with the solutions to these issues, so thanks for sharing.

  • I've been struggling with the "save games can not be found" issue for quite a while now.  I've attempted all fixes that I've found here, 2K forums and Steam to no avail.  I've set up an offline account, uninstalled GFWL, uninstalled the game numerous times, deleted all save game folders, etc.  It is interesting to note that I start a new game, immediately save and attempt to load the save file and encounter the error.  Thusly, my save game files are smaller than 1 mb to begin with.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Q.

  • In my savegame directory there are 2 files and one directory named with my nickname. The files are 1kb and if I delete them I have to start the game from scratch ( they are autosaves ). If I don't the game will keep freezing after attempting to connect with Windows Live, no matter what I try to do

  • Unfotunately this maybe an issue best addressed by contacting 2kGames Support (who are really great people)

  • Dont know if this is the place to ask, but I've had this game loaded for few months now. I started playing normaly and there was this windows live and well I didnt log into it and ofc I could not save either. Well then I went and loaded all the sithe needed to be able to connect in game but turns out every time I try it says unable to connect... the support page didnt help either, it just stated the obvious that "im having problem connecting". Well I wouldnt be here if I had problem to connect right? So whats wrong with this piece of junk?

edit: Bought the game from steam.

  • Has it ever occurred to anyone that multiplayer was un-playable because "Games for Windows Live is uninstalled or outdated?" And If so wtf does it mean?

Everything is alright for everyone else and I can play the game purrfectly but, when I say quit to multiplayer on the main screen, it shows the windows desktop and I tried to reinstall countless times again. I looked on google, didnt have ANYTHING RELEVANT. C'mon guys, you're my last hope.

  • Purchased Bioshock2 via Steam.  Installed the game no problem and setup an GFWL account so that I can authenticate a profile and start a game.  Got an hour into playing, saving as a I progressed, and shutdown.

Went back the next day to play again, and when I went to load a saved game, received an error message.  Did a number of searches in other forums and think I know the root of the problem, but not the solution.

My current system has an SSD as the boot drive, and a secondary, larger HDD.  I use the SSD for my Win7 install, Steam install and a few other core programs.  I use the HDD for large programs, game installs, game saved games, photos, etc.

From what I have read, GFWL won't work properly if the saved games reside on a drive other than the boot drive.   Problem is I can't get GFWL or Steam to recognize the boot drive.

I ran a few tests.  I deleted all Bioshock2 content from my machine, and reinstalled it.  Entered the game, and saved a few games just to see where they would land.  My system automatically created a folder on my HDD drive entitled Bioshock2, and the saved games reside there.  How to I get GFWL or Steam to default the saved games to my SDD?

Any pointers on how to troubleshoot this further?
