I'll try to move as much as possible from the Old PC Shadowrun home as possible before the site is closed down.

Ok, since there seem to be quite a few new people crossing over from the dark side and coming into the light that is playing the FPS known as Shadowrun, I thought that I would post a general support thread for it.

I strongly suggest using the Search bar at the top of your this page if you are looking for a specific solution. (or the built in page search function built into your browser)

First and foremost, the system requirements for Shadowrun:

Shadowrun requires a computer that meets the requirements that are listed in the following table.

It also requires Windows Vista to play, there is a known hack to get it to play on Windows XP, it is not supported, nor does it allow online play (meaning you can't play it online).  This will be the extent of information on the subject of the XP hack, so do not ask about it here.

To determine whether a computer meets the minimum system requirements, use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Dxdiag.exe).

To start the DirectX Diagnostic Tool in Windows Vista, click Start, type dxdiag in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

If you want to find out whether a computer will run Shadowrun, visit the following Game Advisor Web site:

You can use the Game Advisor to download a small piece of software that scans the system. This software will help you determine whether a computer has the correct hardware for the game that you want to play. If you do not have the hardware that you need, the Windows Game advisor provides links to hardware providers that can help you upgrade the system.

Can You RUN It?

Here are some basic links to get you going in case you are having problems with running the game:

First of all for some reason, all of the Shadowrun updates do not install automatically for everyone, which will not allow the game to start, not sure why, but:

This way you will know if it's the game or your LIVE installation. 

If this doesn't work and the game still doesn't start you will need to look at making sure your LIVE is current, which the latest version can be gotten HERE.  Details on this update are HERE.

Now you will need to create a LIVE account if you don't already have one.  Look HERE for step by step instructions.

Make sure you are running the latest drivers for your graphics card.  I suggest going to the card manufacturer for drivers instead of the GPU manufacturer for drivers.  The reason is simply this; the card manufacturer will have tested the drivers on your card model before releasing them, the GPU manufacturer does not.

Make sure that you have the proper firewall and port settings to allow your game to access the internet:

If you do not use the Windows Firewall program, you can still open the ports that are used by the game when you configure the network. To make sure that these ports are open, or to open these ports, contact the network administrator or the Internet service provider (ISP). If you are the administrator of the network, see the documentation that is provided with your networking software to determine how to open these ports. The following list explains the port configuration specifications for the game:

• Port forwarding must be enabled on the UDP port 80.
• Port forwarding must be enabled on the UDP port 3074.

Connection Issues FAQ

To adjust the volume for your microphone in Windows Vista, follow these steps:

1. Click Start
   type mmsys.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2. In the Sound dialog box, click the Recording tab.
3. Click Microphone, and then click Properties.
   Note Make sure that Working appears under Microphone. If Working does not appear, click Microphone, and then click Set Default.
4. Click the Custom tab.
5. Select or clear the Microphone – 20dB Boost check box.
6. Click the Levels tab.
7. Adjust the volume slider to the level that you want, and then click OK.
8. Click OK to close the Sound dialog box.

Alternative Method to Fix Game NOT Starting:

Fix works for Shadowrun, Halo2 Vista, and Gears of War.

Uninstall affected game, delete all associated folders (will vary on game what is left behind, doing a search for the title will help you find whats left) uninstall:

Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable

Delete associated files (if they are still on computer after uninstalling previous 2 programs):

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\GFWLive

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE

Reinstall selected game, which will install the 1.0 version of the client, after finishing install connect to to Games for Windows - LIVE via the game.  The title will update and program will restart, it may depending on the game, ask you to update again next time you connect to LIVE, via the game, once done it will fix whichever title was not functioning properly, but you will need to uninstall any other games that were also affected.

I have this guide myself, and for the backstory for this game and artwork alone it is worth it.  It also gives you some decent tips as well.

Graphics Issues

If you have an issue with this or any game that autoboots in a resolution not supported by your monitor, with the error "MODE NOT SUPPORTED" then I suggest the following that you could try:

• edit the games .ini or .cfg files with notepad and see if there is a resolution setting that can be modified (this is NOT available in Shadowrun, so you'll have to try the next suggestions)
• press alt-enter to switch to windowed mode after the game starts (if it starts)
• from the games exporer window, right click on Shadowrun and select Shadowrun Safe Mode

You could also try creating a desktop shortcut to the shadorun.exe file in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Shadowrun folder and try different compatibility settings.

Unable to initialize Live for Windows Components (see 3rd post below for more info)

UPDATE:  For some who are having the game crash with the error 'Unable to initiliaze Live for Windows components' and the logs report that the faulting module is xlive.dll try deleting that file (xlive.dll) from the Shadowrun directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Shadowrun) only and then restart the game, this IS working for some people as a solution.

This post is specifically related to the errors:

• LIVE Gaming for Windows failed to initialize

• System Cannot Find the Path Specified

These solutions were originally written to solve Halo 2 problems, but in fact turn out to work for many users for Shadowrun as well.

The first solution is to try this:

Keeping things in perspective, this was never a Games for Windows -- LIVE issue, it was a problem that was addressed like several other products by the Windows development team.

If you are seeing errors with Halo 2 for Windows Vista or Shadowrun, such as 'Failed to Initialize LIVE', then this kb below should be your next step in resolving your issue. However, if the error still persist, for whatever reason, then you should contact Windows Support for assistance as this update is supported by them.

 As for the manul steps below, they were a spin off from the exact same issue occuring wtih folks running dedicated servers on Windows Server 2003, they have also been proven to work with Vista and Win 7;  However, its a last resort approach and should be avoided unless the above patch fails to resolve your Halo 2 for Windows Vista or Shadowrun problems.

If you continue to expereince problems with this error and Halo 2 or Shadowrun, then you should contact the support number provided in the manual specific to your country.

 

Here is the following troubleshooting steps I have done and so far have worked for me and a few friends

 

try the following:

 

Run Command Prompt (run as Administrator):

 

Type: net stop cryptsvc and hit enter

You will receive a message stating that the service was stopped.

 

 Navigate to your LocalDrive:/Windows/System32 and rename the "catroot2" folder to "cr2old"

 

Once it is renamed, go back to command prompt and run this command: net start cryptsvc which will restart the Cryptographic Services:

 

 

The above steps may work, however I have noticed that if it does when you exit to the desktop then try to relaunch or reboot the PC the error may come back. If this is true then the steps below have been so far successful.

 

 

 

   1. Delete all the tmp*.cat files in the following folders (use the search option on the top right corner of the screen to find and delete the files):

 

      %systemroot%\system32\CatRoot\{127D0A1D-4EF2-11D1-8608-00C04FC295EE}  (there may be no files in this folder if that’s the case then only worry about the next folder)

 

      %systemroot%\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE} (if no items are found then go to the next step)

 

 

   2. Delete all the kb*.cat files in the following folders (use the search option on the top right corner of the screen to find and delete the files):

 

      %systemroot%\System32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE} ( A pop up will ask that you need admin rights to delete, accept and delete, you may notice that they were deleted however still appear, if you refresh the screen they will be gone)

 

 

      %systemroot%\System32\CatRoot\{127D0A1D-4EF2-11D1-8608-00C04FC295EE} (again skip if there is no files in the folders)

 

 

   3. Delete all the oem*.* files from the %systemroot%\inf folder. (again use the search option on the top right hand corner of the screen to find and delete the files)

 

   4. At the command prompt (Run as Administrator), type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.

     A) net stop cryptsvc

     B) Next, Navigate to your LocalDrive:/Windows/System32 and delete the renamed Catroot2 folder we made previously and keep the “Catroot2” file

     C) ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2

     D) net start cryptsvc

      Exit Command Prompt

   5. Run halo 2 (or Shadowrun)

 

This should run successfully, even after exiting and re-launching halo 2 (again or Shadowrun) as well as after a reboot. Hopefully this helps and Please post back with results, as i'm sure the Mods would like to know the outcome

Halo 2 PC Windows 7 Fix

Many users have faced the "LIVE Gaming for Windows failed to initialize" error message in Halo 2 PC and/or Shadowrun . The solution offered to fix it in this thread http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/t/8958.aspx  (see above) helped for some users but buried within the thread are several key posts which are evidentially the solution to resolve the issue for Halo 2 on Windows 7 and why the far more complicated fix in the previously mentioned thread works in the first place.

It can also be noted that the solution offered by Microsoft in a compatibility update for Windows 7 doesn't fully address the issue either. Below is exactly how to resolve this issue, copied from the previously mentioned thread which is now cluttered with 17 pages and in its depths, the solution as well.

Applies To

 

• Windows 7 x64 Systems
• Windows 7 x86 Systems (Possibly, haven't heard of an x86 user with problems)

 

Symptoms

When starting Halo 2 PC (and Shadowrun), users receive the error "LIVE Gaming for Windows failed to initialize..." and are unable to start Halo 2 or Shadowrun.

Cause

The cause is one or more OEM files located in the C:\Windows\INF directory. The OEM file that causes the problem to arise is different on every computer and as a result, one user's OEM file that caused the problem may not be the same on another user's.

Solution

You will need to narrow down the file that is causing the problem on your PC as this is user specific. The recommended procedure is to move half of the OEM files to another directory to see if Halo 2 starts. If it does, you need to start moving some of the OEM files back until you get the error, then narrow it down to the one or multiple OEM files that are causing the problem. Delete the problematic OEM file(s) causing your problem once located.

Notes

 

• The OEM file(s) causing the problem will not be the same on all systems (mine was OEM21.inf, another use had OEM94.inf and OEM95.inf as the problem files).
• There is at least one but can be multiple files causing the problem.
• The .PNF files do not seem to cause the problem. However, you may remove the .PNF file of the OEM file(s) cause your problem if you so wish to be on the safe side.
• I recommend that you run Windows 7 in "test mode" if you haven't already done so just in case any driver signing issues arise from messing with the "INF" folder.

 

Users - Once you find the OEM file(s) causing your problem, open them to see what exactly they are for. It may be a good idea to see if we can narrow it down to a particular device/driver. For example, my problematic OEM file was for atiilhag.dll and had a special note that it was modified with Mobility Modder.NET. 

Or you could run the monstrmoose patch which is essentially Deadbl0w's fix in an executable file - http://www.monstrmoose.com/download.php?f=H2VWin7Fix.exe 

If, and I mean IF you use the executable, it is a non-reversable fix, though most likely not damaging, there have been reports of sound and other hardware no longer functioning without reinsalling that hardware happening to a few users.

If you do the manual fix, I personally suggest moving one file at a time to accomplish this, sure it's slow, tedious work, but you will be able to weed out the single file that is causing your issue, and as a result, leaving in place other files that may be of some importance to the functioning of your system.

This fix helps many users with some of these problems discussed, while not a 100% fix for everyone, it is working for a lot of people.

  • Click "Start" > Search > Type without "quotes" > "eventvwr" > Press Enter
    Expand the "Windows Logs" Tree
  • Save the application file

• System information:
  • MSINFO32
    • Click "Start" > Search > Type without "quotes" > "msinfo32" > Press Enter
    • Click on the "FILE" Tab > Save
  • DXDIAG
    • Click "Start" > Search > Type without "quotes" > "dxdiag" > Press Enter
    • Click on "Save All Information'

•  Please provide screen shots of any errors you experience, as pictures make things significantly easier to explain.

Shadowrun Dedicated Server

Hosting a dedicated server

 
Launching the Shadowrun Dedicated Server Setup program presents the user with a number of options. These options are grouped into the following panes, selectable at the top of the window:

·    Server Identity
·    Permissions
·    Preferences

The functionality of each of these panes is described below.

Basic Options: Server Identity Pane

The Server Identity pane includes information on how the dedicated server is viewed by the rest of the Shadowrun world, including:

·    Server Name.  Specifies what the dedicated server is called in the browser interface.
·    Message of the Day.  Displays on the server summary screen and may be up to seven lines of text. This message can include contact information or any server-specific rules that the administrator wants users to honor.
 
The Administrator Username and Password boxes on this screen must be entered the first time the dedicated server is started. The Administrator Username box should contain the e-mail address of the Microsoft Passport account associated with the administrator's gamertag, and not the gamertag itself. The Password box contains the password associated with that Passport account.

To find your Windows LIVE account e-mail address:

1.    Launch Shadowrun.
2.    Open the Guide by pressing the Home key.
3.    If you are already signed into LIVE, press the Sign Out button.
4.    Press the Sign In button and select a LIVE-enabled profile to view the Sign In screen containing your Windows LIVE account e-mail address.

After entering the server administrator's Passport account and password, the administrator should press the Launch Server button in the lower-left corner of the window. This will start the dedicated server. When the dedicated server starts, both the administrator username and password will be stored securely by the Games for Windows – LIVE system.

If the administrator subsequently changes options and wants to restart the server, the password and username do not need to be entered again. If the administrator later wants to change which gamertag is being used to host the dedicated server, a new Passport e-mail address and password must be entered.

Advanced Options: Permissions Pane

The Permissions pane controls who the administrator allows to access the dedicated server. The administrator can specify an entry password for the dedicated server, whether or not the server is only available to Games for Windows – LIVE Gold members, or if any previous players on the server are permanently barred entry.

 (THIS IS NOT AN ADVISABLE SETTING ANYMORE! If you use this most PC players will NOT be able to join!)

To set an entry password for the dedicated server, the administrator must select the Yes check box in the Password section and specify a password in the text box. Password-protected servers will show up with a lock icon in the Dedicated Server browser screen and users must enter the correct password on the Server Summary screen in order to gain entry to the game.
 
Setting the Gold Only status to Yes will prevent Games for Windows – LIVE Silver users from connecting to the dedicated server.
 
After the dedicated server has been run, subsequent starts of the Dedicated Server Setup program will include a list of gamertags that have been recently active on the server. Any of these gamertags can be permanently banned by selecting the gamertag in the left column and clicking the right arrow to copy the gamertag into the Banned column. Players who are banned will be unable to connect to the dedicated server. After selecting a list of users to ban from the dedicated server, the administrator must shut down and restart the dedicated server before the changes will take effect.
 
During a match, players on a dedicated server may vote to Kick a player from a dedicated server. If a player is kicked from a server, he will be unable to rejoin the dedicated server for the remaining time that the server is active. However, players who have been kicked from a dedicated server do not go into the ban list; shutting down and restarting the dedicated server will allow previously kicked players the opportunity to rejoin the game. Players who have gamertags in the Ban List will be banned for all restarts of the dedicated server, until their name is removed from the Ban List using the Dedicated Server Setup program.

Advanced Options: Preferences Pane

The Preferences pane contains only two options: the maximum number of players allowed on the server and the map cycle selected for the server.
 
The Maximum Number of Players option controls whether or not a player attempting to connect to a dedicated server will be allowed to join the game. If there are more players on a dedicated server than either the maximum player count or the maximum number of players allowed on a particular map, no new players will be allowed to join the dedicated server until some players leave.
 
The Map/Mode Cycle controls which maps and gameplay modes are available on a dedicated server, and the order in which they are played. When a dedicated server is running, it will cycle every match using the Map/Mode Cycle list on the right side of the window. Dedicated server administrators can add or remove maps from this map cycle with ease. To add a map to the map cycle, select the map/mode from the list on the left and press the right arrow to copy them to the end of the map cycle list. The administrator can add the same map/mode cycle multiple times, so that maps repeat if desired. To remove maps from the map cycle, highlight the selected map and press the left arrow button.  

Dedicated Server Issues

·    In the Preferences pane of the Dedicated Server Setup program, some maps are listed twice, both for their native game type (Raid or Extraction) and the Attrition game type.
·    Player preferences (set through the in-game preferences interface) are ignored on dedicated servers. Only the dedicated server map/mode cycle, which is set by the server administrator, is honored.
·    If a dedicated server loses its connection to the Games for Windows – LIVE service, a message will be sent to the output console stating that the server is disconnecting. The dedicated server will attempt to reconnect every two minutes until reconnection is successful. Due to variances in network topologies, it is possible for players to remain connected to a dedicated server even though the dedicated server loses connection to the Games for Windows – LIVE service. In this case, no new players will be able to join the server through the dedicated server browser, though the game in progress will continue normally.
·    Multiplayer achievements are not granted on dedicated servers.
·    All text entered through the Dedicated Server Setup program is subject to the Games for Windows – LIVE suitability filter. Profanity or otherwise offensive text will be replaced by blank text. This includes the Message of the Day, the Server Name, and the dedicated server Password boxes.

Bandwidth throttling overrides the maximum number of players specified by the dedicated server, but this does not display in the user interface. For example, if the server is set to a maximum of 16 players, but throttling will only allow 14 players, then the server will show 14/16. Clients attempting to join the dedicated server will fail to connect with no error message.

Note:  Bandwidth throttling is a method of limiting the transfer rate of data over a network connection.

I hope to get a dedicated server up one of these days.  In fact at the time I wrote this, I've had one running as a test.  I don't expect anybody in it for now, but soon I will get this thing going, the problem I have is that none of my other computers is running either the hardware or the O/S to properly host this game.

I am also hoping you will post any tips or strategies here as well.

There's been a lot of questions on how to unlock achievements, as some of the explanations are vague, and some of the achievements can be quirky. This is my fourth (and final) attempt to clear up the confusion.

Note this is being called v4.20, as someone posted an achievement guide inappropriately titled v4.0, which has nothing to do with my series of guides.

Thanks to anyone who explained these in other threads, or v1.0 , v2.0 & v3.0 of this thread, allowing me to compile this authoritative list. Please feel free to chime in on the ones we're still a little unsure about, post strategies for particular achievements, or ask for clarifications if required. Your assistance in keeping this thread on the first page would also be appreciated =). Here's hoping this final version is polished enough for a sticky...

General Information

* You must be connected to LIVE (except training achievements)
* You must be in a game with at least 4 actual gamertags on each team (bots do not count, nor does a 5v3, 6v2, etc.)
* Team kills do not count towards achievements such as Resurrector, or the "kill" achievements such as Elf Bane, Popgun, etc.
* Achievements do unlock even if the server quits before the end of the game (and any progress made towards achievements is registered).

- Achievements can be earned in private matches that fulfill the above requirements, unless stated otherwise in the achievement description. That being said, achievements should be earned, not boosted.

Achievements Explained

100 Wins (100) Win 100 games during your Shadowrun career. 
This means games, not individual rounds. [ unclear if joining a game in progress after several rounds have already passed would grant the win ,  though I assume it does ]

3 for the Price of 1 (25) Kill three enemies with one grenade.
Hint: use enhanced vision to look for tight groups of enemies.
Possible quirk: I'm pretty sure that when I unlocked this achievement, the grenade I threw only killed 2 people. The third had been rezzed by one of those and bled out. can anyone else verify they got the achievement in this fashion?

Assistant (20) Get a 5:1 damage-to-kill ratio.
This means you dealt enough damage to kill "X" enemies but only killed "X div by 5" enemies i.e. you either had a lot of your kills stolen or a lot of the damage you dealt got healed. Under combat stats you can view your damage integer for that game. Shoot (no pun intended) for at least 5.0 with only 1 kill or a similar ratio (10.0 to 2, etc).

BFF (20) Play Public Match in a Party with players on both XBox 360 and Windows Vista.
You need to party with someone playing on the opposite platform. Vista players on your friends list will have a PC icon next to their name.

Blowhard (10) Gust 5 enemies to their deaths.
Either gust them off a cliff or gust a smoked enemy to death. This is a career achievement (i.e. does not have to be completed in a single round/game). eck52 reported that shooting an enemy so they run off a ledge will also count towards this achievement. This has been confirmed by myself as I got this achievement in a game that I did not buy gust, but shot someone such that they fell to their death i.e. game reported "Xenocidic forced n00bface to fall to their death".

Brother From Another Mother (20) Perform a cross-platform Resurrection.
Cross-platform means a 360 player rezzes a Windows Vista player or vice-versa.

Healer (10) Save your allies with the Tree of Life.
Heal 50 pips with your Trees of Life in one round (per Vigor cA). Health is divided into rectangular blocks - a pip is one block of life.  Healing you do to yourself doesn't count towards this achievement. Throwing a tree for teammates who are bleeding out is a good way to work towards this achievement (per mattinater). Also, try to be the dedicated tree-thrower for your team.

Heavy Smoker (10) Ignore a great deal of damage using Smoke.
You must be in smoke for a total of 60 minutes. (confirmed by Vigor cA). This is quite obviously a career achievement.  watch out for gusters!!!  =)

Master Thief (25) Deliver the Artifact untouched despite heavy defense.
Score flag without taking damage and at least four enemies within 20m of the score zone (per Vigor cA).
tip from MaDzMaN , "Just try and do it on a map where there are various ways to get to the extraction point... I got mine on Maelstrom, i delivered it behind everyone by jumping up those 3 floating blocks that lead up to the VTOL..."

Mine Is The Superior Platform (50) Kill 100 players on the opposite platform.
If you are on 360, kill 100 Vista players and vice versa. If you're having trouble finding 100 Vista players to kill, why not try and borrow Shadowrun for PC from someone and kill 100 Xbox360 players? =) Alternatively, try to arrange a private match of at least 4 360 players vs 4 Vista players. This would not be considered boosting as long as the matches were played legitimately, i.e. both teams attempt to win, etc.

Resurrector (10) Bring back one hundred allies from the dead
Pro tip: Practice using the B-radial menu to quickcast and resurrect enemies even while under heavy duress. Hold down B, move the left thumbstick left, and up-left and pull the right trigger to cast resurrect. This way res does not take up a spot on your assigned buttons and you can still get that warm fuzzy feeling that comes from being a good team player.

Runner (10) Carry the Artifact all the way to the delivery point. 
You must pick it up at the start location and deliver it the whole way. You cannot pick it up mid-way or drop it and re-pick it up. If you're having trouble getting try using an elf with wired reflexes on the first round of extraction and just make a mad dash for the flag. Typically in the first round base defenses aren't shored up yet.

Small World (20) Play Public Match with players on both XBox 360 and Windows Vista.
You should get this achievement without effort as long as you're playing public matches. Vista players on your friends list are indicated by a PC icon next to their name.

Teleporter (10) Teleport one hundred times. 
This is a career achievement i.e. you don't have to do it all in one game.

That's One Frustrated Sniper (10) Block ten sniper shots with Wired Reflexes.
Wired reflexes has to be assigned to be active. It will attempt to block the shot on its own as long as you are facing the sniper. This is a career achievement.

That Was Close (20) Kill the Artifact carrier less than ten meters from the delivery point, and win the round.  
You can either deliver the artifact yourself or eliminate the rest of the team , as long as you've fulfilled the 10 meter requirement. For our American brothers, 10 meters is about 33 feet. 

Unstoppable (50) Kill ten enemies in a row without being killed.
This will carry over from round to round and webnerd has reported that it carries over from game-to-game. Many people report having a lot of trouble getting this one to unlock. According to the official achievement FAQ, only initial kills count towards this achievement (not rezzed people on their second life). Furthermore, the counter is currently bugged and being reset if you die (a fix is in the works). Until the fix, once you kill 10 people on their first life without dying you need to not get killed (read: hide) until the game ends. Due to the initial kill requirement, I would suggest shooting for at least 15 kills and no deaths.

Well-Traveled (20) Play a Public Match on each map. 
You must play both the small and large versions of the maps in order to unlock this achievement. Some claim that you must also win on each map, though I can't verify as I unlocked this achievement a while ago. This is one you shouldn't really stress about, it will happen on its own whilst you work towards other achievements. For a list of maps, go to matchmaking preferences.

You're Coming With Me (25) Avenge your own death!  
This means you were rezzed and killed the person who killed you, or you threw a grenade right before you died, and that grenade ended up killing them, or any other combination of you being killed and somehow killing that person after the game reports your death (in the same round). Killing someone who has made you bleed out will not count as you haven't actually died yet. Also note that if you kill someone else simultaneously i.e. you both shot each other dead at the same time , it won't count.

Zombie Scores! (20) Deliver the Artifact while bleeding out
Your rezzer is killed by an enemy and you deliver the artifact before bleeding out and dying yourself. Does not work if you get mortally struck with a katana and then deliver it before dying, also seemingly will not work if your rezzer commits suicide or your initial death was a team-kill.

Training Achievements

For all the training achievements you need to do the bot match and you must win the bot match game. The difficulty setting does not make a difference. (Apparently you don't have to do the actual training, or so I've been told, I assume as a nod to the beta testers who wouldn't need training)

Chapter 1 Training (10) Complete Chapter 1 Training.
Chapter 2 Training (10) Complete Chapter 2 Training.
Chapter 3 Training (10) Complete Chapter 3 Training.
Chapter 4 Training (10) Complete Chapter 4 Training.
Chapter 5 Training (10) Complete Chapter 5 Training.
Chapter 6 Training (10) Complete Chapter 6 Training.

Please note that the Vista version of this game has a glitch where you will not be able to actually complete one of the training missions, for this I suggest that you simply go to the associated bot match at the end of the training mission, and you will receive your achievement.  -CptJack

Secret Achievements Revealed

Shadowrun Fever (25) Catch it!        "Teabagger achievement"
This is a viral achievement. You must kill and tea-bag someone who already has this achievement. Tea-bagging is standing on their face and pressing the left-thumbstick(crouch) thus making the ball-to-face connection. Repeat as desired for massive damage to the teabagged player's ego. Try not to get killed whilst teabagging as this will inevitably lead to a fierce teabagging retaliation. The devs started with this achievement, so that's how the fever got started. Virtual herpes 4tw! This achievement unlocks the FASA logo gamerpic (the one I'm using at the time of posting). Some people have been having trouble getting this one. I'm pretty sure you have to actually have to be the person who scores the kill to teabag the infected person. And no, I'm not joking about this achievement =).

Triple Rez! (10) Resurrect three allies at once.
Fairly self explanatory. Note that you can move around while res is casting, if your teammates weren't considerate enough to die in a tight little bunch. You could also gust the bodies closer together. Benefits of rezzing more than one person at a time is that it only holds the base amount of essence no matter how many people you res in one cast! P.S. Having res in attrition games is absolutely required. Please pick it up first round unless you're a troll.

Winning Streak (10) Win ten consecutive rounds.
This carries over game-to-game, obviously. Some have reported that if you are teamswitched whilst working towards this achievement you may have your counter reset. Also remember that the 4 v 4 actual gamertags rule has to be met during the whole streak or your counter will likely get reset.

Godlike (25) Kill all opposing players on other team without taking damage (at least 6 enemies).
per PsycheOutCyrus . Most suggest using the sniper rifle for this one. This achievement is quite difficult, but resist the urge to boost in a private match as others have done - Achievements are meant to be earned.

Master Gardener (25) Kill 5 enemies with strangle. (per TheBoogeyman209)
Strategies for this achievement include - mortally wounding an enemy with the katana and then laying strangle for him to die in (per the purple pwny). Alternatively, as RNA, use strangle to hold down the flag in raid, wait for them to teleport in (Power station works good for this one) and then shoot them up just enough to not kill them and let the strangle finish them off. In extraction, watch the flag, shoot up any potential grabbers and then lay down strangle to finish 'em off. Note the game must report that "Xenocidic killed n00bface with strangle"

Master Ninja (100) Inflict one hundred mortal wounds with the Katana.
Go through elf-training to learn how to deal a mortal wound. Your enemy must be unawares of your prescence as indicated by the "?" (question mark) over their head. Arterial spray from the carotid artery is what you need to look out for to confirm you've dealt a mortal wound. 
As far as I know, as long as you do land the mortal wound (i.e. you see them start to bleed out) whether or not that person dies by bleeding out, you or a teammates kills him, he gets rezzed, or the round ends, you still get credit towards this achievement.
My strategy for earning this achievement was to use Elf, and purchase abilities in this order - Resurrect, Smoke, Enhanced Vision, Teleport. Res first to earn money and help your team, EV to scout the enemies and TP to get behind them. Smoke for escape.
dzs Awezome reported that this achievement can be unlocked by killing someone who rezzed someone else - whoever they rezzed will begin bleeding out and the game will count this as a mortal wound. This is proven by people who have unlocked this achievement without using the katana much. Confirmation of this by Decestation v2 in this thread.

Shadowrun Community Events

Okay, now that I've transferred as much as I've time to, I'd also like to mention that I fairly regularly host GFWL Shadowrun Community Events.

Shadowrun Dedicated Servers

I also do try to keep a dedicated server up and running for the game.

It may be down from time to time for bandwidth issues (as in I need some extra bandwidth for client work that I may be working on), but rest assured it will eventually be back up and running.

Hopefully you don't throw you keyboard through the wall due to the poor forum formating.

It is "different", and will take a little getting used to, but I've used technically worse *cough* GFW Forums *cough*

Biggest thing  to get used to, having to re upload any media from the posts I moved.  That kinda stunk a bit, but meh, no biggie.

When I copied the Games for Windows Community post from the old forums, it was nice it copied the picture as well instead of going through that whole mess.

Still waiting for voice chat between 360 and PC players to be fixed. (Probably won't)

I hate playing when it's all silent. Shadowrun used to be such a social and chatty game.

Oh, I am with you on that one, I think the biggest cripple against this game isn't all the BS everyone always complained about, it's the lack of cross-platform communication.

All the other complaining, is just one person's distaste of being pwnd by another using something he doesn't approve of, heck, I'm guilty of pitching a gripe myself every now and again...

The fact that the game is still sold for download on the Games for Windows Live market place with no notification that you can't talk to 99% of the players is a bit of crap too.

That is due to the fact the Xbox Updated their voice codec. The game its self needs to be updated but FASA Studio got shutdown.

Regardless, I hold out hope for an eventual fix.

And as far as the recent update you speak of, it's my understanding that the PC update went as planned and the Xbox update is what caused the lack of communication for cross-platform. But I haven't any proof, nor does it matter, the fact remains; we'd all like to see it fixed.

From what I took is that GFWL supports the voice service natively, so the PC side is unaffected, but the Xbox games all need a update to the new codec. Since it is the Xbox game that needs the update then I would say the issue is here to stay. If it was a PC issue maybe they could gather a team to fix it, or someone in the community could help out as that has happend many times.

I seen a fix from the community for Borderlands not supporting non SSE2 proccessors.

I actually started a thread at the new support forums about the cross-platform chat.  Maybe since there is so little there now it will get some attention, you should all reply, it's worth a shot.

I have a curiosity regarding Shadowrun which I'd like to ask. I bought the game 2 years ago. Still have it on my PC and played it a few days ago..

I would like to know, how can you tell which opponents are Xbox 360 users and which aren't?

Cos we know Shadowrun is cross-platform Vista VS Xbox 360. But I never managed to find a way to distinguish between Xbox 360 users online as well as PC users. How can you tell?

There are probably less than 10 pc gamers that are actively on Shadowrun.  But you can tell if their 360 gamers by checking their gamercards.

Actually, I personally know far more than that who still active play that are PC players.

As to who is PC and who is Xbox, well, if you look at your friends list I there's an icon next to the players name that shows either a little pic of an Xbox or a PC, if it's only recent players, it just shows a picture of a 360 controller for both "I think"....

I figured out who are Xbox 360 users by clicking on their names and viewing their games. Users that have games such as Call of Duty Black Ops, Halo 3, etc are Xbox 360 users as PC doesn't have Halo 3 nor is COD: BO enlisted as a GFWL on PC.:D

Anyway I also noticed that I have an achievement unlocked from 2 years ago in June 27 2009 called Small World which as stated in the achievement description 'Play Public Match with players on both Xbox 360 and Windows Vista'. Never realised that, but I guess now I know.:D

Oh and another good way to figure out as to whether you are competing with 360 gamers or PC gamers is when you with your keyboard & mouse manage to easily kill a particular opponent online. PC Gamers are defined by the fact that they play only on PC. They don't play on Xbox 360, PS3 or any other console platform. Their main gaming platform is the PC.

You could be considered both a console and a PC gamer. But the term I used is basically targetted as a general tendency.

For the majority of the people keyboard and mouse are far more superior when it comes to first person shooters. Now I must say im not surprised how easily I am killing the players online in shadowrun compared to games like Battlefield Bad company 2 on the PC where killing is really a true challenge.

I also have an Xbox 360 controller for Windows, but I only use it to play FIFA 11, NBA 2K11, MLB 2K11, etc all on PC! In sports games the controller is definitely more superior than keyboard and mouse! Just like in these games keyboard and mouse are inferior.

If you say my last paragraph doesn't make sense, then you're having a laugh, im sorry. It is universally known and accepted that keyboard and mouse are by far the superior peripheral to use, whether you disagree or not, that's a fact. If you adapt to keyboard and mouse then you will prefer that over the gamepad for FPS shooters.

Here’s a fact that PC gamers will love to brag about in the future, in the never ending PC vs. console war: apparently Microsoft killed cross-play between the PC and Xbox 360 because of the superior controls a mouse and keyboard offers, something PC gamers have known for decades now.

Now I don't want to create a flamewar here, but I am stating facts, that you seem to be unaware of.

Everything you said is all a matter of opinion not fact, it's never been proven that mouse and keyboard are superior(if anything I prove that it isn't everyday in Shadowrun on my xbox)  The link you provided was not a fact at all(it wasn't based on any official statement from microsoft) it was an article on someone's presumption and opinion.  If it was universally known and accepted then we wouldn't be having this discussion right now.  You have stated no facts(nothing you have said can be proven or disproven and hasn't been).  There are only 3 cross platform games and I have destroyed pc mouse and keyboard players with my controller on two of them(Universe at War I wouldn't touch with a controller) so there's my fact.  I am a gamer, that is all.

That's the thing, the flexibility is there to play both.

I personally am a PC only player.

I however will use my 360 controllers on occasion, usually for third person perspective games more than anything, for some reason that works for me.

Every once in a while I'll use the controller on my PC for Shadowrun or some other FPS and realize how much I really stink at it :P

Awesome work cptjack. Like Wameri said I found this section mostly by accident. But I did know that the 360 SR forum is not up yet. I made a topic about it and a mod told me that it should be coming back with the rest of the other game forums. Once it does we should copy some of the relevant info from this topic and start it up again. If they don't bring it back for some reason I will be raising hell in the general and support sections until they do. There's no good reason to not bring it back, how much effort does it really take to make a forum section and name it shadowrun?

Btw I bumped Prophets topic about cross platform chat but I didn't want to keep bumping it and get it locked. You guys should help it stay on top by voicing your support and annoyance. Just don't go crazy and get the topic closed or make them not wanna help us.

For those of you who don't know me I'm a long time member of the SR community. I play only on 360 but I am doing what I can to help you guys get this communication issue fixed. SR is one of the best games out there and it's a shame to have the community split and angry.

Even if you are an Xbox player

It's been a while since i played shadowrun on xbox or pc.  I originally rented the xbox version a few times, but then decided to buy the pc version (this was back in mid 2010 i think, maybe a little earlier.)  Now, only a few days ago, I got back into the game only to realize that voice chat does not work cross console anymore.  Everytime I talked, and no one would respond, I would get a kick vote on me (prolly because of the static i dont know im producing).  I kept doing it until one person finally explained to me that you cant cross console chat.  I really think Microsoft could patch the problem in one hour, especially since they own the game now since fasa was shut down.  It really sucks that such a good game was made by a company that got shut down.  This game could be so much better if they werent, including a possible sequel to it.  Honestly, im quite annoyed with this, especially since the game is very well populated and they wont do anything.  I dont believe there will be a patch because microsoft only wants money, and this game doesnt give them that much money (5 dollar used xbox version, 20 dollar pc version which i got much less on amazon).

Strange that it costs 20 dollars for PC. Cos I bought Shadowrun PC version from PC World here in the UK in stores for £4.99 in 2009!

By the way, I also think we need a universal forum for this game. I mean a Shadowrun General Discussion (PC & Xbox 360) this would make more sense since this game is cross-platform. You wouldn't want to have a separate forum for both PC and Xbox 360.:/
