Yes, PMs are saved.  At the top of the link provided by the OP, the Private Message option will still be there and you can click on and it retrieve your works.  What they mean by copying them is to gather them from the old forums, paste them onto a Word Document and then when all of the game forums become active, you can repost those FAQ's and such.

 

So what you're saying is my PMs from the old site will be deleted unless I copy them and do, uh, something with them? The fail marches on.

looking at the old forums just pisses me off

 

It doesn't look like a full archive, I thought I had more time in beta, this has kinda thrown me.... anyways. I am looking at the archive but there seems to be less pages in the game forums I am looking at? Is it not a complete archive?

 

There definitely seems to be lots missing sadly. Oh well, I guess I can only salvage what I can now huh? I hate change for changes sake.

And the other thing no one has asked is HOW LONG is this Temporary Archive going to exist for?

We are talking YEARS of information, of how-tos, games info, descriptions, reviews -- I use it all the time...if I'm stuck on something, if I need some technical issue fixed...if I'm thinking about buying a game - I'll use the forums as a way of gauging whether I should buy or not. Wow -- it's as if Xbox doesn't even see the value of the old forum - as an information resource.

Guess all our info is disposable?

I hope MS are keeping a back up of everything somewhere, just for the sake of history. It really would be a shame for everything to be gone for ever. Although, most of it is fairly irrelevant now I suppose.

I am interested to see how the new game forums will be once they are online. Will ALL 360 games have a forum, even tho a lot of them probably wouldn't get anybody posting in them now? Or will we have to create the forums when we want to do a first post? Seems daft to have forums that nobody is going to use as they are starting from scratch.

God yes!  I never thought the old forums looked that great but it's a million times better than this tripe.

It's a crime that this wealth of knowledge - the old forum,  will be jetizoned without a thought of setting up a permanent archive. Tsk, tsk.  They don't appear to realize the value of the old forum information. A temporary archive is not enough.
