Kinect is now a part of the console, just like webcams and microphones are on nearly every laptop and tablet that are made today. I'm okay with this, these kind of features should be standard so that developers use them more consistently in games. And this goes well beyond just motion tracking games.
Everyone keeps using Laptops and Smartphones as examples of devices that have cameras in them and comparing them to the Kinect. It's not the same. If the cameras break or if you remove your webcam. Your phone...laptop...and tablet still work. If your Kinect breaks or is unplugged from the device. You can't even turn it on. It becomes a brick. This isn't a logical example.
Also, you saying it should be standard so dev use them more. MS could still dig their heels in and say the Kinect will be sold with every X1. But still allow me to disconnect it. That way, Dev know every single X1 sold has one. It's up to them to design something so interesting that I'm willing to plug it back in. But in the meantime. I should have the option to unplug it and put it in the box until that time comes. I would even be willing to pay the $500 for the thing knowing I probably would not be using the Kinect if they just gave me the option.
