  • If you have an XBOX Live Family Pack and one of the members has an MW3 Elite Membership, do all family members have access to the new MW3 DLC?

  • Did you buy an Elite Premium Family Plan Membership? If your answer is NO then you only bought an Elite Subscription for ONE family member. If you want more than that to have it you will have to buy each member an Elite Subscription.

  • what an absolute complete and utter rip off, so you have to buy say 3 elite packs just for one console..if you only have one console???

  • This is complete bull... If I buy the map packs separtely (not through Elite) can all members on my Family Plan play it? It's all just on one Console....

  • If Temhotabot is right, which I'm not entirely convinced of, that is a disgusting choice by Activision.

    .

DLC on the 360 should mean that all profiles on the 360 should also get access to that DLC. This is the same as with Online Pass codes. Two accounts on one console may not be able to play a restricted game together without the purchase of another code and that is disastrous, much more so if you want to have a more casual player alongside you.

If I could have my wasted days back, would I use them to get back on track...?

    .

  • DLC has always been associated to the Gamertag not the console. Activision has nothing to do with it.

    Why the hate now?

  • I confirmed it with Activision, only the elite member gets the dlc even if you have an xbox live family pack.  This is a different policy from COD Black Ops.  If the map pack was downloaded onto your console, everyone in the family pack could play no matter which gammer tag it was downloaded by.  Activision, you have a PR nightmare on your hands because this is a sham.

Black ops didn't have an Elite Premium Membership.

    .

Believe me when I say that I'm the last person to be giving random hate when I can't figure out what's what like most people seem to, but I already know DLC is associated with the profile, obviously. However, if I download an expansion for Fallout 3, all accounts on my console can use it. If I download anything for any game at all prior to this one with Elite, all accounts can use it. If this isn't the case then that's just poor. If I get Elite without making an allowance for the Family Pack (not that I use one) then all family members have to purchase the DLC separately. While that's bad enough, do you not see how that could very easily lead to DLC being more heavily locked... to the point where all accounts on a console have to purchase any given DLC?

    .

    That's the problem.

If I could have my wasted days back, would I use them to get back on track...?

It's always been the case for me. I can only think that maybe the account that downloaded the DLC wasn't on your console? (Recovered to another one, in the old system).

  • Yes i know that anyone could play the Black Ops map packs on my Xbox

  • Level: 1
  • Well, Since Fallout 3 in an example we are both familiar with I've decided to do a little experiment. I have Fallout 3 from Games on Demand. I've reloaded one of my old profiles and I can play Fallout 3 but it's saying i have to repurchase the ex-pacs. I'll see if that changes after I get out of the vault.

  • Level: 7
  • Curious. Did you bring your old profile to your current Xbox, download the DLC (you won't have to pay for that), sign it out and sign back to XJay? I know it seems obvious but that should be all that's required.

    .

It should come up on the menu screen: [Loading DLC; please wait] or something like that.

    .

My only guess if it doesn't work would be that the profile downloading it needs to start up Fallout 3 first, and have it load the DLC before you sign in to XJay.... OR perhaps that the licenses for your old account's DLC need to be transferred while it remains on your current console and it'll work after that.

    .

I can't remember because it's been an awfully long time but I know that across all my games, DLC purchased on my account (or my mate's account) will always be enabled for all accounts to use. Same with Mass Effect 2, which my mate buys DLC for.

If I could have my wasted days back, would I use them to get back on track...?

    .

    Keep searching... keep on searching.

  • My findings:

With my old account logged in only, I can play any Game on Demand or Arcade game on the console but not the DLC. (i.e. The Pitt for Fallout 3) I dashboard and log my Current profil logged in as player 2. I restart Fallout 3 with my old profile as Player one and the DLC is available to play.

You can't access the content just because it's on the console, but if the profile with the content is logged on at the same time you can access it's content. I don't believe this is "working as intended" but can be used as a work around for some people.

Chain: it says at the download menu from the Fallout 3 main screen that The Pitt is downloaded, but if I cose it from the download list it does ask that I pay for it again.

  • Did your second account download the DLC on that console originally? I'm just curious because of how they had the license transfer function.

    .

I should test it myself too but I don't control the other accounts with DLC on them and licenses are already on my console.

If I could have my wasted days back, would I use them to get back on track...?

No, the old account I had before Fallout 3 came out.

  • Hi XJaySC, you need to transfer your licences for the account that bought the DLC to your current console then re-download any dlc. All your dlc will then work on any account on that console.

Guides for what you need is here:

    support.xbox.com/.../download-content

    support.xbox.com/.../play-xbox-live-content

The locking of Elite content to the account is disgusting. Me and my girlfriend found this out last night.

I'm just gonna boycott activision/buy pre-owned from now on. Learnt my lesson after getting Call of Duty Elite and Gears 3 season pass for some on disk content - never again am I paying up front for digital content...

  • Question:

If you bought a family pack from XBox Live, why would you expect to get Elite for all four while only paying for one?

  • Level: 1
  • Thanks Jimbo. I'm sure that answers some questions for some people , but I wasn't having any issues with my content. In fact, the experiment was to see if my content can be accessed by another account. In other words, if my licences were usable by another Gamertag on my console.

I still don't see why people are up in arms over this. You're complaining because some one paid extra to access content early and you, those that didn't pay, can't access it. What's the point of paying for early access if anyone can use it?

  • Level: 1
  • I downloaded the 2 map packs and tested each on just to make sure.  I also read the terms that stated the DLC would be availble to ALL users on my console.

Once I signed out and signed in with a different XBOX Live profile, it stated that I didn't have the needed Maps installed and needed to visit the store.

That is opposite from what the agreement stated.

    Answer:

For previous DLC packs you have been able to use the DLC bought with all the accounts on the console on which it was originally downloaded to. To me this is a tactic to which i frown up upon since it is going the same way as the "Online Pass".

  • Major,

The way i see it is you should have never been able to access the content because you didn't purchase it. From day one licenses have been connected to the GamerTag. So if I have DLC and you load your profile on my console you should not be able to access my licenses. It's the same as you getting DLC for free and I'm sure MS does not condone getting pay for content for free.

You still have to have to purchasing Gamertag logged in to use the content. That should tell you something.

@ PRG sign in the purchasing account as player 2 and try again.

I'm going on assumption here but I don't see why this would not work once the map packs are released to the rest of the non Elite members. At that point it would be like any other DLC you purchase. Again though, this is just assumption and we are talking about Activision and IW here, two companies with a well established track record of not caring about its customer base.

  • So they finally saw the loophole and closed it.

When I buy software for my PC, I have to buy the group pack to put that same software on my PC and my two laptops.

When I take my family out to eat at the buffet, I have to pay for four plates.

    It's life;  nothing is free.

This isn't how I see it. Both are companies that try there best to keep everyone happy. I've never found CoD to be "unplayable". In this age mods and hacks are going to happen. Since I don't see them(once a month maybe) I'm guessing they are keeping up with them the best they can. You can't jump every time a hand full of players say "I'm never playing this again because (insert reason)". They have their priorities on what needs to be fixed and in what order. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean they don't don't care. The wants of the many out way the wants of the few, and as crappy as that may seem, you can't run a business catering to everyone.

So from your point of view, if you buy a game, lets say...at a game stpre. You should not be able to let others borrow your game. Even if they are your own brother or sister?

There are limits to these type of tactics. Sure, you have a different opinion and i respect that. However every year we see companies taking this route. In the future it may end up that we will have to pay for the content just to play it a certain amount of times.

Just let them borrow your 360 and use your gamertag, and they can play all they want.]

  • Seems like the PS3 doesn't have this problem.  I was just in a CHAT with customer support and he sent me an internal link that stated the following:

    Question

Can I share DLC between accounts?

     Answer

No. Each person must purchase their own copy of any DLC. The only sharing that is allowed is when playing co-op split-screen play on one account. Also if you create a new Live Gamertag/PSN ID you will need to re-purchase your DLC for that account.

    INTERNAL USE ONLY

This answer is the "official" answer we should give. In truth it is actually possible to share DLC between accounts on one Playstation 3. As long as the account that purchased or downloaded the DLC is on the PS3 any other account on that same PS3 can access the DLC. Once the purchasing account is deleted from the PS3 the DLC will no longer work.

According to support, only you should have acess to your own account, and an account cannot be created for a group of people or a family. That is why the Family pack was created.

  • Your licences should be usable by ALL accounts on your console. Thats exactly what I was saying. If other accounts cannot then you need to carry out the licence transfer process.

When you download any DLC it says this: "The item you are trying to download is subject to usage restrictions. You can use this item on the first Xbox 360 console it was downloaded to. Access to this item will also be granted to all users on this first console." The MW3 maps also say this. So why can other users not access the content?

While it seems a trivial matter, especially to people who aren't affected, it is a major issue for people like me who purchase content for use by a family, in the same household, on the same console. Just imagine if you had a family and you bought one copy of CoD, and only one of you was allowed to play on it. You had to purchase another disk for your son, or GF to play on or whatever. Its a similar principle.

I am not talking about global Elite Premium features. I just want dlc content to be available to all players on my console. The same as it was for MW, MW2, WaW, BlOps, Reach, Red-Dead, Gears 1, 2 AND 3. Simple as that.

Hmmm.  What I read in the suspension forums is that you are responsible for your account, if someone else is using it.

  • I guess their argument is that Elite members get the DLC for free, you are paying for Elite and not the DLC.  I wonder what will happen when they release the Map packs for non-elite members.

That is correct, you are responsible for your account and even though there is nothing stopping you from letting a friend playing using your account it is frowned up and if the said "friend" breaks the ToU/CoC in any way you are responsible for the consequences. I have seen countless posts in the suspension forums regarding the un-authorized use of an account by a family member that violates the rules and gets banned.

Again,i am simply stating my point of view. Do not take anything i say too seriously since i am only a member of this community. If you would like to know more about this just tweet @XboxSupport and ask them.

Elite members that purchased the membership get early acess to the maps and were supposed to get certain features of the website. Some of which are not even available yet.(Clan Operations?)

The Map-packs will be released at a later time for non-paying members.

When i bought the Elite membership i did knowing that i was purchasing the DLC at a slight price decrease yet it seems they are releasing few maps at a time instead of a regular pack of at least 3 maps.

Hey Derp. What was the point of your comment?

  • Level: 1
  • I understand the financial burden of having to buy multiple copies of a game so everyone with an Xbox in the same house can play at the same time. The Family pack was just to make it less expensive for 4 member house holds.

My point is simply that, in the past, the "sharing" of DLC on one Xbox was not intended though could be worked around. As said earlier "They closed the loop hole" and just for paying Elite members. You're not paying for Elite just to get the map packs cheaper, but also to have earlier access to those maps. Some would feel cheated if non-Elite members got the same privilege

When the map packs come out for non-Elite members in March, I would bet that they can be shared the same as DLC in the past.

And FWIW I think Elite is just a poorly thought out money maker. From what I've heard it doesn't work half the time and the "extras", as you have pointed out, don't even work. I will not or ever purchase Elite.

Hard copy and digital copy are two different things. Digital copy has higher security protections do to piracy. With Hard copy I can let my brother borrow it and i can't use it. With Digital I can let anyone "borrow" it with out losing my abiltiy to use it. That's why "licences" to use digital media was thought up. ( No I'm not attempting to stir a SOPA/PIPA debate and would appreciate no one doing it either. Quick way to get this thread locked and/or deleted)

I would wait to see if the DLC can be shared per console after the Map Pack in March Drops.
