Re: Joining the Thieves Guild Bug

In the quest ´Taking Care Of Buisiness´ (thieves guild first quest)  it tells me to locate Brynjolf at the Ragged Flagon..

but when i get there he is not there. When i follow the marker he is still standing at the marketplace, with al the other merchants around him..

so this is pretty (edited by a moderator) with any of the merchants, and i can't continue the thieves guild quest! anyone know how to fix this bug

Did you try waiting a day?

If waiting a day doesn't work then try loading an earlier save and doing the previous mission again.

If you don't have an earlier saves then just try going to the flagged Flagon to see if it advances the quest.

You can get there through the sewers.Go  down the steps to the canal level. The entrance to the sewers is down there. They are called the ratworks or something like that. It has rat in the name anyway.

yeaah bruv, i waited for 1 week, nothing happend.

i´ve waited at the ragged flagon for 1 week, nothing happend.

i attacked brynjolf so he would follow me to the ratway, nothing happend.

and i started the thievesguild quest earlier in the game, and after that i completed the mainquest, and darkbrotherhood, and i still can´t join the thieves guild :( so that means i have no save games either....

did you do Exactly as he asked?

If you already set the quest in motion he told you to meet him in the market during the day.  Go up to him and he will ask you if you're ready.  If you tell him yes you will break into a lockbox and then pick someone's pocket in the market square.  After that he will be at the Ragged Flagon.

yeeaaaaah i done all that >< but the problem is, he is NOT at the ragged flagon! when i talk to him, he says it's not safe to talke here and i should meet him at the ragged flagon, but whenever i go there, he is not there!!!

Are you sure you are not going into The Bee And Barb?  The Ragged Flagon is the Thieve's Guild bar in The Ratways.

omg, dude i´m not retarded. Yes i went to the raggef flagon. i´ll explaine it one more time..

i have done so far everything in the ´taking care of buisiness´ quest. i placed the ring in the pocket of the argonian bla bla bla. and then brynjolf says good work, come see me at the ragged flagon down in the rataway. and a soon as i get there (@ the Ragged Flagon, not the bee and barb) He is not there i waited days and days but he doesn't show up. and when i go back to the market place, he is still there with all the other merchants, not moving.. and i can wait there for as long as i want, they will not move! they are there at the same spot 24/7.. i'm telling you its a bug.

Im just about to start that quest, I want to finish up teh other quest for the other merchants before I do it though

Umm, you are supposed to put the ring in the Dark Elf's pocket, you stole it from the Argonian's stand.

Never experienced this problem, I feel for you dude.  You may have to continue on and leave this till the end and if still doesn't work you may be forced to start a new game and just do this quest to get the achievement.  

It seems to me that there are little quirks here and there that some get, some don't.  I have a few such as I am to visit the mage college however I finished that whole quest and am the arch mage.  I'm sure I will run across a few others.  

dude.. why won't you understand that i have done EVERYTHING IN THE CORRECT WAY, it even says in my journal that i completed the ring part, and that i have to meet brynjolf at the ragged flagon, but like i explained 5 times already, and somehow you fail to understand, he is not there, but at the marketplace.

yeah cheers mate, i hope that the new patch will solve this bug, and if not... -sigh- i will have to start over.

I looked on the Elder Scrolls wiki.

The bug is mentioned there and also a possible fix.

To fix it and advance the quest you need to get caught stealing something from the market.

So just steel something while a guard is watching, this will fail the quest but you can then talk to brynjalf who will give you another chance to join.

tried it and failed..  but i just found another thing ><

"Once you find Brynjolf in the Ratway you'll have three ways to respond to his congragulations, the first option (getting here was easy) may cause him to compliment your confidince but then abrubtly end your conversation without telling you about the deadbeats and never bringing up the subject again thus breaking the quest. To fix this simply reload a save and choose one of the two other speech options. "

i might have chosen the first option...

I picked the getting here was easy option.Can't remember if he mentioned deadbeats or not but as far as I can tell the quest line is not broken. I've done a couple of other quests since then.

i have the same problem

He doesn't go there til night time after about 10:00pm.

the darkbrotherhood might be effecting this(MIGHT BE)

AS in all the elder scrolls games you need to watch who you join and how you join.You may need to start over,and join the thieves guild first then move thru the rest of them.

It is possible you may have killed off someone needed for the thieves guild quest(s).

The title does have other issues and seems like everyone is getting something different wrong..

OBLIVION is not SKYRIM

and after looking at your games you did no such thing you have not even played the game AT ALL. YEAH TALKING TO (u Assassin)..

Hey Camel, he might just possibly be playing on the computer instead, since he's given the quest details for SKYRIM which, you know, is not OBLIVION?

I don´t have a ethernet cable anymore, so yea, i play on the xbox, only i haven´´t been playing with internet for about a year..

anyway, i think the glitch was caused by the fact that i did the dark brotherhood quests first..

I started a new game, did the thieves guild first and the darkbrotherhood after that, and no problems so far (:

Just as a thought, Assassin, since it strikes me that you don't have the first patch, perhaps you could buy or borrow one for the patches?

Ah, true, I had the same problem and that's why I ended up spending a year before Reach came out in the same situation you're in.

Or buy a set of powerline adaptors. They transmit the internet through your power lines. Much better than the wireless adaptor and cheaper too.

I can NOT understand why Bethesda isn't putting out a PATCH for these BUGS in the game!

I am having issues with the Thieves Guild Quest not loading Dampened Spirits.  And NO I did not break into the Meadery at anytime before this quest. After I finished Loud and Clear instead of allowing me to go to Maven Black-Briar as Brynjolf ordered to do the Dampened Spirits Quest, it just sets me to the Quest called 'No Stone Unturned,  which I encountered a glitch with that dang quest AS WELL!  

I can't get into the Embassy to get the Gem that is located there.  It says I need a KEY.. I tried using the ONLY key I got during the Embassy party but it doesn't work!  I have Also tried using Whirl Wind to get back up onto the ledge I landed on when escaping the Embassy, as shown at: it wont work either.

On the uesp.net site it states there are Bugs with this Quest www.uesp.net/.../Skyrim:Loud_and_Clear So now I am doubly screwed. I am hating this game. I can't believe how excited I was for YEARS awaiting the sequel,  merely to become wholeheartedly disenchanted so quickly!

I can understand why they haven't patched things yet... Because they actually have to do the programming to properly fix things.

Alright, I have even a more advanced version of the bug...

I am on my second file and am sitting at lvl 1(  faster leveling/scaling with certain skills) with many skills above 70 so no I do not want to reset this game..

My brynfag is sitting in the market repeating, " I have something to tell you all, Gather round everyone, No need to push and shove." He is in his thieves guild outfit. I have cleared the ratway and tried the flagon which he will not got to.

My understanding of what went wrong,   I stole from every container and person before starting this quest. I completed it before he uttered anything about snow elves or started the dialogue.  I am upset mainly because of the time investment and the fact that this file was made to fix another bug preventing me from getting the completion of the Theives Guild achievement.  I do remember in oblivion having similar problems from guild clashing and infinite loops but noting this severe and well game changing. I have started the Dark Brotherhood before this but only the first quests to get the armor.

To fix this , I do not have any saves... to start off, I have attempted to lure bryn to the ratway. I have pick pocketed those all stuck in the loop of his "gather round" dialogue until getting caught. I tried killing everyone and downing Bryn/Maven.

My next solution would be a mass frenzy/calm but I dont feel like running around setting that up so after reading I felt obliged to post.

I really do like this game and I am only bitter about the time invested, like 4 hours..

The thieves guild quests to me are the buggiest of the bunch i had the same problem, brynjolf just waits at his stand and tells me to follow him yet he just stands there BETHESDA NEEDS TO MAKE A PATCH FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try Unrelenting Force on him. Save b4 you do, he may turn hostile.

This may be a bit off topic but, since we're talking thieves guild glitches (will be vague as possible to avoid spoilers),  I finished the quest line and returned the stolen lucky thing, but when i go back to that place where i returned it to, it looks like it did before I put that thing back in the place it belonged. Now the short cut to that room is still there, all purpley and such, and i can still get the powers, but it reverted back to the original form and "my new home" hasn't changed and I can't find K. anywhere. Anyone else have any problem like this?

I realy dont think theres a problem.I working on the same Quest as well and already spoke with him.You need to do more Quests and other things before he will talk to you.I was thinking something was up as well,but i just kept going threw other Thieves Guild Quests and no problems.I have noticed with a few other Quests as well.You must finish or start iam sure other quests in order to continue.I noticed this with other storyline Quests.

so yea.. i planted the ring, went to the rat ways everyone there attacked me. got to the ragged flaggon no Brynjolf... carried on with the quest to find the old guy deeper in the catacomes. esban i think. fininshed that . dude is still at the stand. i waited 24 hs. he never moved. i waited in the rats ways 25 hrs. he never showed. i waited in the ragged flaggon 24 hrs he never showed.. WTF!

So my buddy was playing and he had the same problem. First thing I checked was to see if he'd planted the ring. He hadn't, so I was like "problem solved." Wrong. Now he's having the same problem as everyone else. Brynjolf just doesn't want to go to the Flaggon.

so i made it in to the Theives Guild. i hand to start at level 1 on a new save file, i use pc and got the 3rd patch installed.

so do not do iny of the Quest at the 1st of the game,, just go to Riften. in fact if you dont want Dragons in the game buging you and killing people you need to talk to, thin dont speek to the Jarl of Whiterun unt end game. so and one's in the Theives Guild thin go and git in the Dark Brotherhood, and from thare all the rest of the game. no bugs so far.

I got him to go down to the ragged flagon by using unrelenting force to get him to chase me to the rat way entrance then once he was outside opening the door an before it load  using unrelenting force on him again which made him follow me into the ratway and all the way to the ragged flagon. it worked and i did a quest for him but now he has returned to the market and wants me to show him around the ragged flagon but he just stands there and if I try the unrealenting force on him again i just get kicked out of the thieves guild =(

omg this is happening to me too! did u fix urs yet ?!?! :(
