  • I don't want to drop the diff yet. I'm just wondering if lvl 28 is too low for them. What do y'all think?

  • What type of character do you have?  What are your best combat skills?  Do you have a high sneak rating & perks?  There are many, many ways to beat them.  Just depends on what your character is like.  Post your character and maybe we can help.

  • Where these Dragon Priests? Are the Dragon Priests the boss ghosts that carry those special masks? If so, level 28 isn't to low. That's right around where I was at when I beat one by the name of Rahgot. Considering were talking about the same thing anyway.

I don't know how you feel about this but you could crank the difficulty down a notch or two and see if that helps. It's a strange tactic but sometimes a necessary one. I was completing a quest and became surrounded by Wright Draugers and a whole lot of strong Necromancers that were conjuring Atronachs. Only time i ever had to drop the difficulty a notch but I needed to and it did help.

  • Please disregard my above post. I can't edit it now and I totally forgot you said you didn't want to drop the difficulty yet. I'm reading threads on here and also at the Bethesda Skyrim forums so I got confused. Sorry about that.

  • I may have to drop the diff. I'm a battlemage. 1 hand, heavy armor, mostly destruction and restoration.

  • When you do end up defeating the Dragon Priest, please tell me what you found on the body. I'm wondering if Dragon Priests are the same thing I'm thinking of.

  • I seen a video on this on some game site - and let me say up front I haven't tangled with any yet, so take this as you wish - You probably know Magic is their only weapon, so the vid advises if you've got Shock, shock the living crap out of them and belt them. Next advice was if you've got Ward Spells, use your Ward and close the gap and belt three shades of brown out of them. Final tip was drain magica poisons and belt them senseless.

Main advice was negate their magic however you can and whack them senseless.

EDIT - I just noticed you said you got Restoration, so maybe the Ward Spell route is the one for you.

  • I have been beating DP's since level 7. They are only hard if you make bad mistakes (learned this the hard way from Krosis). Use a follower, particularly a magic or ranged based guy. Then summon a flame atronach. The atronach lasts about 1 hit, but is a great distraction. Find a good spot to hide from blows or to trap the DP. When it is trapped, blast away at it. With Krosis I lead him to some trees, got hit confused between my follower and me, and just went destro on him untill he died.

  • Is 'lightning cloak' spell available to you? That does damage to the enemies magika. And use lightning spells and runes. That's what I did to kill morokei.

  • You're probably having difficulty beating the dragon priests because they are level 50!

  • Level: 2
  • Morokei was the first that kicked my tail. This one is on a mountain close to solitude. He comes out of a coffin when you get your shout. I was using flame since he used frost but I think the shock idea is good. I like your descriptions of hitting someone. 3 shades of brown? LOL that is FF! I am going to go back to the house and look at the armory for some good toys, then go back and kick his little frozen ***.

  • At level 20 something I was getting my A$$ handed to me by Dragon Priests. I'm now at level 43 or 44 and I've killed them all.... So I'd say just wait till you level up some more. I use a melee character btw

  • There are actually two types of dragon priests. There are "generic" dragon priests and there are eight "special" named dragon priests. I don't know about level differences between the two.... But the named ones will have special weapons and a special mask on.

At lower levels... I found that storm atronachs will help you defeat them easily.

Also, the eight masks from the named priests do serve a purpose when all are collected. If you want to know more...... Just wiki it.

  • When I fought Morokei I think it was close to the end of the College of Winterhold's quest line and I was trying to get a staff the had and was guarding.  He kicked my tail several times but the way I did it was.  I had Lydia with me and as soon as I entered the room I cast a flame atronoch and then rushed up stairs and took out his two mage buddies he had overlooking him.  By that time my atronoch was gone and Lydia was down.  I moved so he would follow me and get away from her and I hit him with Fireballs and lightning till my magic ran out, { which is fast since he was pounding me with lightning and the staff of magnus}.  By now my health is almost gone but Lydia is back up and takes his attention away for a moment.  I run back up the stairs and hide behind a pillar, heal and wait.  I would wait for my magic to get back up then jump out behind my cover and zap him with lightning and he would blast me back unless I was fast enough. I would do that till my magic was gone then switch to my bow till my magic was back up.  During this whole time Lydia would get up every now and then and get a few hits in before he would blast her back down.  But he was staying down in the water with her and not coming after me so that aloud me to hide.  After what feel like 10 min of this he finally went down.  Just make sure you don't hit Lydia.  From my experience she can only be killed by you.  Enemy's can put her down but only I can do the killing blow.  I was around lvl 18 or 20 when I fought him.  I have not fought one since but I am much stronger now and can't wait to let the next one taste my 88% reduced magika cost destruction fireballs I made for him.

  • If you are having probs with DP. do the quest for Sanguine Rose.  And if that is not enough, take a follower that is not locked at a low lvl.  AND IF THAT IS NOT ENOUGH, make sure you have a horse to help tank :)

  • This can work but they do not always stay at a distance.  I suppose it could depend on some perks and your level but I have been chased by them.  I use only arrows except when performing a backstab for 30x damage.  I usually use a big pillar to sneak around and line of sight to bring back my hidden status.  Rinse and repeat. Game Over.

  • Spoiler: Arrows worked on the guy before the Savingarde portal, he liked to stay back and shock me. I have a strong Melee class so if the guy did get close to me i would have made quick work of him. No, i had to defeat him with arrows because he was purposely distancing himself from me. I felt like i was battling Darth Sideous.

  • oh wow, I have yet to face an enemy that will do this if I am on a level they can reach.  I guess some range classes have stayed at a distance.  Maybe it's when there mana is low I see them coming for me?  Idk, my battles are pretty damn long at times because of the difficulty of Master.

  • The dragon priests all use magic based attacks, so using anything that will drain their magika is best before charging in. Most also carry a special staff, usually elemental and either offensive or defensive. If you want a good way to defeat them but have low magika, go through the mages college until you get the staff of Magnus. Keep in mind that one of the priests is using it, but it's in a dark cave and very tight, so sneaks will work wonders on him. The staff will drain magika from the target and then drain health if they have no magika. After the initial DP to get the staff, just about all the other ones should be a breeze. Another one I recommend is the wabbajack from sheogorath. To get that quest, ask for rumors at one of the inns in solitude and it should be the one about a person walking around town. The wabbajack creates random effects, including an instant kill and a pile of gold.

  • There's a Dragon Preist atop of one of the dragon mountains, and he has a staff that does huge fire dmg. If you beat him however, there are 3 shouts waiting for you. He is very hard, and moves very quickly. The staff does at least 50 dmg, and he fires about every 3 seconds. You cant get close, and you cant use a bow because he moves to quickly, It seems that magika is the best way, but my levels are low in destruction. I will have to come back to him later. Way too hard. I'm level 40 by the way, and I have all deidric weapons and armor. I play on master by the way, and havent dropped my dificulty once, but I might have to with this dude.

  • Level: 4
  • Man, I'm a brenton, and I have the lord stone, so I have 50% magic resistance. So the dragon priest were cake to me, I already got 5 mask. Look for that lord stone as it will add 25% magic resistance.

    .

But if I was you, i'd stack up on magic and elemental resistance potions and enchanted gear.

    .

Those work wonders in keeping you alive.

    .

Also, bring some summoning scrolls and summon them in front of the priest face and the priest will attack your summon so that will give you time to get in as many hits as possible.

    .

The tactic about using magic draining potions and weapons dont work as their attack is from a staff, not from them their mana. Draining their mana wont do anything to stop their attacks.

    .

If you got the ICE FORM shout, USE IT!!!!!

  • True, but not all have staffs. The isce shout won't help due to them instantly thawing when you hit them, same with wabbajack when they turn into an animal.

  • I defeated my first Dragon Priest at level 19. I am just like you and use the exact same skills. Keep a healing spell in one hand at all times. Kill any enemies around him, after that, save your game so you will have a checkpoint if you die. Use shouts like Slow Time and Marked for Death. Marked for Death will make him weaker and Slow Time will slow him down and you will have plenty of time to beat him down with whatever one handed weapon you have. Try using specific potions too. Not just healing ones but maybe some poison and a potion that increases the damage of your one handed weapons and a potion that will make your restoration more effective when healing.

    You best not assert disingenuously.

  • I bravely ran away from a dragon priest because he kept killing me.  But now he won't respawn and that crypt can't be cleared.  **Spoiler, sort of**

Never, ever use the Sanguine Rose on a dragon priest.  Ever.

What are the Dragon Mountains? I want to find and fight this guy tonight? Three shouts? Nice.

I will however take him out with a bow no matter how fast he moves. If you haven't explored the bow perks you can slow time down by 50% when zoomed in and 50% of hits cause the enemy to stammer. My stamina is so high that i can stay in slow mo through an entire battle.

I guess i should look up the dragon preist locations on a wiki.

lmao, what do you use to summon your 2nd dremora?  Just the spell?  Or perhaps there are more than two methods?  I have Sanguine Rose and then there is a spell right?  Anything I am missing?

Had to edit this to say I love you gamertag and your pic lol!

I'm not sure, but if you look at the final perk for Conjuration, you'll see Twin Souls. That's probably what allows you to summon two allies, but you'd have to read the definition for the perk.

If I could have my wasted days back, would I use them to get back on track...?

  • Oh, so If I do have a dremora spell, and I use it after using Sanguine Rose (staff that summons a Dremora) if I don't have the perk, it will just take the first Dremora's place?  Interesting.

    GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

  • Level: 7
  • I don't know whether something summoned by the Sanguine Rose is bound to you. If it was and you didn't have Twin Souls, it would replace it. If you did have the perk, it would be summoned alongside it.

    .

I haven't fiddled much with it but it would be an interesting test to make, I think. My guess would be that the summoned creature is bound to the target you hit with it (even though it's hostile to it) so it wouldn't interrupt your summoned creature.

    .

I don't even know if I'm thinking of the right staff, but I hope I made enough sense anyway.

  • Yep, it makes sense.  My summoned Dremora I use the staff for is labeled "Caelum's Dremora (somethine else here I think)" So I probably cannot summon anything else or it's place would be taken I would think.  If I resummon from the staff in combat I know that replaces my current summon.

  • Bow/arrow and cover works for the ones i go against. I have to go through a few saves but its usually a matter of finding the right cover. I am strong melee too so maybe that's why they keep their distance. Elevated positions work well.

Also, to drop difficulty is to lose.

  • Krosis and Morokei were definitely toughies but Navkrin less so.  Silver weapons and fire magic are very useful against Dragon Priests as the are basically high level undead.

This would be Krosis, and he's at Shearpoint. Don't get too eager and go for the word wall before you kill the dragon, otherwise you'll have a dragon and Krosis to deal with. I somehow chased him off a cliff, and took him out with arrows while he was stuck below me.

  • Level: 4
  • i just got Krosis to follow me to the next town...pretty much and ambush for him i ran thru the town and they came after me but shortly after their attention was on him and not me so i sat back and watched the melee from a safe distance whist flinging arrows into the crowd..fun to watch
