  • Has anyone been contacted by Microsoft providing a support to faithful XBOX Live users who decided to renew their subscriptions to enjoy the promised capabilities of SmartGlass?

  • Same issue and I've tried all the same fixes as the OP.  I have an iPad 2 and I'm trying to connect through my WiFi.  At least the app before it was "upgraded" to Smartglass used to let me control my Xbox with my iPad.  Now it just continuously tries to "connect."  Thing that boggles the mind...this HAD to be tested on WiFi before the app got launched, right!?!

  • Same issues here as the rest of you. Works on 3G, but not on WiFi....

  • How can we get any solution? Is Microsoft hearing us?

  • Same issue here, iPhone 4s, iOS 5, phone over wifi, xbox hard wire, both on same network signed in with same xbox live account.

  • I'm having an issue with the IPad app as well.  I can connect to my Xbox but when I try to use Internet explorer via the smartglass app on my iPad 2, I connect but the scrolling doesn't work.  When I swipe up or down the page moves like 1 millimeter instead of scrolling up or down the page.  What's up with that?

  • Both iPad 2 and Xbox 360 are on same wireless network.

  • I was able to use it successfully on my iPad 2 but a few days ago it stops on connecting to Xbox making it unusable now. I haven't made any changes to either my iPad or Xbox.

  • I too have found that if you connect over 3G/4G, and then switch to wifi once connected it works.  so far though, the only practical use i have found, is using the wireless device as a remote control for Netflix for example

  • I'm glad to hear its not just me and ive only wasted 30 mins trying to figure it out.

Is there ANY chance this can get fixed soon first post was 20 days ago :/

All settings are fine, everything is correct just like the first post however

Smartglass attempts to "connect to Xbox..." it will try for ~ 10 mins" then it will give up and say try again.

This has to be a simple fix.

    Also i don't have 3g on my iPad3.

If you can get it fixed for Friday your legends lol

  • Level: 1
  • that makes no sense, as you have to be on the same network as the xbox to connect to it with smart glass... and 3G is NOT the same network.....

  • ****SOLVED**** - (for me anyway)

Although i was having difficulty with using Smartglass on my Nokia Lumia 920, it might help to mention here that i solved it by carrying out the following:

    1.  Uninstall Smartglass from phone - got to games, and under collections press and hold the Smartglass icon

    2.  Reboot phone by pressing power button and volume down until switches off, then off, then on and then releasing both buttons.  It will reboot.

    3.  Re-install Smartglass

I'm nor sure if this was a hard reset or whatever but i found that the time and date were out by about a couple of months although it was on automatic and in the correct time zone?!?  Apart from that the phone seemed untouched.

    4.  Turn on Xbox and download new dashboard firmware (it will appear automatically as of 27.11)

    5.  On Xbox go to settings, then account security, and turn on requirement to enter username and password every time you log on.

    6.  Sign out.

    7.  Sign in and enter username and password and tick remember password box.

    8.  On phone start Smartglass

This worked for me but i'm not sure what it was that fixed it.  If you want to copy everything identically then re-install Smartglass and then uninstall again between point 1 & 2 but i don't think that's necessary.

To hard rest the iPad i think you press the power button and then home button together until it switches off and then release the power button while still holding onto the home button for 7 seconds and then release home button but check this out first.

    Hope this helps.

  • Every time there is an app update or xbox update, I always think, "Yes! It's finally fixed." *Sigh*

  • Would love to be able to try this out...Hasn't worked for me since day one...

  • So smart glass only works when I am not using a wi-fi connection on my iPhone 5... That needs to be fixed. Also the app needs to be updated for the iPhone 5 so it fits the whole screen. There are big black chunks at the top and bottom of the app and it bothers me. Please fix this xbox. Its a really good idea and it would suck if people stop using it because of easy fixes like these. Thank you :D

  • For some reason, my iPod Touch SmartGlass will connect to the Xbox only on my network at home. When I'm away living at school, it won't connect even though I have both devices on the same network. This is very frustrating and the issue is still present with no help.

  • Imagine my excitement this morning when I saw an update for the Smartglass app on my ipad with "bug fixes" in the details. STILL DOESN'T WORK. Anyone had any luck with the update?

  • Since no one else is going to provide anymore information, i will start this party off.

I am using the last-gen 360 (non-wifi) connected to my local network via ethernet cable. Connecting my iphone and ipad to my wifi does not connect either to the 360 with the same results described by everyone else. Connecting to 3g connect to the xbox with limited functionality. After switching back to wifi, smartglass continued to work but with the same limited functionality. Anyone else?

  • I just had an 'ah ha' moment and am hoping to confirm. Is anyone else using a Comcast all-in-one modem and router combo?  I'm using an Arris TG862G and am also having issues over wifi with a few other Apps on my iPhone.  Can anyone comment on their Modem/Router situation?

  • @Spartan - I am NOT saying this is definitely your problem, but it does seem like there may be some challenges with the firmware and the Arris TG862G.  Here is a link to a thread on Comcast forums which talks about this router and challenges people have had with connecting devices to it (especially the Xbox):

    http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Home-Networking-Router-WiFi/Arris-TG862G-GT-and-Xbox-360-S/td-p/1239977

For those of you having issues where they cannot connect SmartGlass over their local WiFi but CAN connect via their cellular 3G/4G network, please let us know what router/network configuration you are using.  In order for SmartGlass to connect to Xbox 360 over wifi, the two devices must be on the same subnet.  Depending on your device or networking configuration, even though you think the devices are on the same network, they are in fact on two different subnets (e.g. some "routers" or all-in-one gateway devices might actually create two subnets - one for the wired ports and another for wireless).

Again, I am NOT saying it is definitely a router/net config issue, I would just like to get a better idea of the configurations in case there is something there.

  • I am using the same setup and having the same issue

  • Level: 1
  • @schief My router does not create separate subnets. I cannot connect to my xbox via my iphone or ipad via wifi or 3g.

The app logs in fine but just sits there trying to connect to the xbox indefinitely.

I am having the sames issues.  I have a comcat System Hardware Model:5 HW Identifier:YN3720 Comcast branded docsis 3.0 modem.   I have only 1 subnet  and cannot connect my iPhone 4s to my Xbox via wifi.  It works on 4g just fine.

  • @kuratiger: I'm guessing you already did this, but I will suggest it anyway. When/if you can, turn off wifi on your iphone (3g only), power off your 360, iPad, and iPhone. Then reset your router (power off/reset button). Power on the router and let it connect. Power on your Xbox and sign in as moldy ducky. Verify that smartglass connection is enabled in the console system settings.  Power on your iPhone and verify you have cellular network connectivity. Launch the SmartGlass app and sign in as moldy ducky.  As this is 3g, it will take upwards of 30 Seconds to sign in this first time.  Let me know if you get connected or at least get "SmartGlass connected" toast on the console.

  • Sorry, kuratiger, my post addressed you but then said to sign in as moldy ducky...obviously replace kuratiger where I say moldy ducky....

  • @moldy ducky: how is your Xbox connected - Ethernet or WiFi?  If your console is an s or has the WiFi connector, could you try disconnecting the Ethernet cable and just connecting via WiFi just like your iPhone? If you can do this, follow a similar set of steps I suggested to kuratiger (power off devices, reset modem/router, power on Xbox and sign in ensuring SmartGlass console setting is enabled, power on iPhone, start SmartGlass app being sure to sign in with same moldy ducky account).

  • For those using a Comcast WiFi modem/router combo like the Arris TG862, there is a confirmed issue with the device that Comcast has recognized.  They are vague with the actual problem, but it appears that iOS6 devices have certain connectivity issues and while they are working on a firmware fix, they are allowing for a no charge equipment change.  mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/device.php  I just put in my order for a new device and will be using my own router to see if it solves the issue.  Will keep all posted.

  • Level: 1
  • I received a new modem from Comcast and connected my personal router back into my setup and this issue is RESOLVED.  Sorry to say that it took a hardware change to fix this, but in my experience this does not appear to be an issue on either the Microsoft or the Apple side, but one with networking equipment.  If anyone else is using the Arris TG862 and are having a similar issue, you can either wait for a firmware update, or contact Comcast for a free exchange.  Other hardware that they will send you will NOT have Wifi built in, but in hindsight I'd rather have my own router than rely on Comcast's anyway.

Let me know if anyone finds a better solution, but for now this hardware swap has been the only successful one for me.

  • I have same isssue, I really dont know what I should do:-(

I am conected wia wifi with both devices and it simply not working. (nokia lumia 920)

Today I will try something else and I will try to reset everything and it will maybe start working, or I will try to connect xbox via LAN etc ... but to be honest, they should really make it more user friendly ...

But at least we have something to do :-)))

  • You know what MS go f#%k your selfs this has been an issue for ever and it's not as if the iPad just came out .When smartglass was announced at e3 this year iPads had been out for ages!!!!!! There for you would have known of the problem. Did testing go on before release  ???

Or are you guys stupid enough to think people will throw out there iPads and all run to the stores to get some **** windows tablet and by the way 3G is not an option!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have it on my iPad and even if I did I pay for an Internet connection at home that works way faster then 3or 4 g and is obviously the way most people at home would want to connect with.

What really gets me is that there has been no response from MS about this not even a "we are working on it!!!!!!"

It can't be that people are getting new routers sent to them as a solution .......are you kidding me????

Dudes get your *** together and help us.!!!!

I'm not going to buy a Wiiu, the graphics look like turd and when I game I like to sit or lay still also I like the size of my controller, however if I had an interactive map or a in game message service just to name a a couple of things it would be freaking amazing.................

  • Makes me sad to see you guys having trouble getting Smartglass to connect on your iOS devices. These bugs that only reproduce on a small percentage of home networks are incredibly difficult to diagnose and solve. I can tell you that we're aware of home networking issues and that the majority of them are iOS 6 specific. The most common reason for a Smartglass connection failure is not having it enabled in your Xbox's settings. If you've done that, I'd also recommend making sure your router's firmware is up to date. I wish I had better advice for you, we're still working on these connection issues. If you feel really passionate about this, I can make sure your network information is added to my report. I'm interested in learning about your iOS device and your entire home network setup. Specific model numbers, firmware information, and non-default settings are important. If you really want to go above and beyond, if you were able to swap out a specific piece of hardware and it solved your issue, I want to know everything about it. Don't worry if you're too busy to help, we're already doing internal data collection. All our eggs aren't in one basket... We hate that even a small percentage of our users can't use a core part of our application. We may be moving at the speed of a giant company, but I assure you we are working on it.

  • it seems that you cannot currently connect to your xbox using the smartglass app over wifi, but connecting over a 3g device will work. i have an ipad and iphone that both were having troubles connecting when connected to my wifi signal, but once i turned wifi off on my iphone and tried connecting over 3g it connected fine. this is an issue that the support team is aware of now, i just got done talking to them and they are currently trying to find a patch so we can connect over wifi again. no estimated time was given.

  • Tell you what fixed it for me - setting a static IP address on the IPAD... eg. 192.168.0.9, subnet of 255.255.255.0
