Slimes/ Slime Farm

So since the piston update came, I wanted to know how to get slime for sticky pistons. I read about slimes, where they spawn, and I even used the minecraft slime finder, and I now have a pretty big slime farm. In my farm, two of the chunks in it can spawn slimes. My question is, when do slimes spawn? Is it by chance, or every three Minceraft days? Does anybody have the same problem? I have only found one small slime, and two medium slimes, my ceiling is three high, which gives large slimes enough room to spawn, but they don't spawn often, if anybody could answer, that would be great!

Thanks, but I have read this before, I am just asking from people who have a slime farm, how long it took for them.

I've heard people say it can take anywhere from 45mins up to an hour. I have had no luck with my slime spawners.

I'd make the ceiling four high. It should be at least 16x16. I was on peaceful, went far enough away and saved, then changed it to easy. Slime immediately spawned in the room when I went back. It hasn't taken long for slime to respawn on my world. Everyone's different I guess, but I wouldn't think it would take that long. You're welcome to come take a look at mine and maybe it'll give you some ideas.

I ment spawn not respawn.

Mine on average are 16x16, with as high of a ceiling as I can reach upwards. They very on length depending on if they are multiple chunks with slimes.

Well, mine is at least 40x40, and in some spots the ceiling is 5 or 6 high, because there was dirt there when I blasted it with TNT. I have tried waiting, like you ^^^ said, at least 50 minutes, but they have not spawned, I even went far away, to go kill some monsters, but when I came back, nothing. It is plenty big enough, and has enough glowstone everywhere, but I don't know what the problem is!!!

I can try the peaceful to easy switch, maybe that'll work?

You're down around bedrock right? Between 4-20?

That's right where mine is too. That's strange. I built mine randomly w/o using a slime finder and I have no problem getting slime. I've got 2 stacks of slime balls + we've used some already. I don't know how you're having trouble, even after using a finder

Yeah, me too, I used the finder, like I said, and there are two chunks in my farm where they can spawn, and at first, I built it without the finder too, then I just cleared more space where they could spawn. I have only found two slimes, thats it! :(

If you can put glowstone in your ceiling and floor for lighting. If you have torches on the floor it will limit the area that they can spawn. I would recommend looking on you tube to actually see how others are building their slime farm.

   This may not be that correct but I think slimes have like about a 1/10 chance to spawn while other mobs have around a 7/10  chance to spawn, or something like that. The more mobs around, both hostile and passive, the less likely slimes will spawn. Best thing to do is light up all the caves around the area and above ground. This will at least stop hostile mobs from spawning and give the slimes a better chance to spawn. If possible, it's best to find a slime chunk out in the water just so other mobs don't have land to spawn on and lower the slime's chance of spawning. Another thing that helps them spawn is by killing other mobs in the area. Once they die, a "spawn slot" opens up for another mob to spawn and you have a bigger chance of it being a slime.

   If you make vertical spawning pads then make them two thick. This way you can leave holes in the bottom layer to add lighting, torches or glowstone, so that hostile mobs don't spawn, and you don't block any of the spawnable areas for the slimes.

Well I have glowstone in the floor and on the ceiling, and I don't have any torches, cause like TFrost said, they take up spawning space, and I blocked off all of the other caves, so no other mobs can come in/spawn. What are vertical spawning pads?

  I never messed with the slimes that much when I played this version on the pc so I'm not sure if they do spawn up to level 40 or not, but they do in the current pc version.  When you find a slime chunk you can make layers of spawning pads to increase the chances of getting more slimes to spawn. I'm building pads that will be close to level 40, but not all the way up, just to be on the safe side. You don't have to build the pads like I said but it's just a suggestion on how to increase the spawnable area.

  Once I start building my pads i can take some screenshots if you'd like so you can see exactly what I mean. I'm also going to build a water escalator that spirals the outside of it to bring them to the surface.

i can stand inside of my slime room and  i get 4 big slime and this always works if i go away for a 3 to 4 minutes they spawn and sometimes when im working in my room they  spawn behind me and i found natural slime there and where most of them spawned dug a hole in the roof and then it stated to work like a boss also i have 8 slime chunks in my spawner

no need to comment on this forum anymore, i now have a working slim farm! :D
