Aagh...! What a Mess: Wrong Gamertag, Wrong WLID, etc...

Hello,

I've had this phone for about one month now and I've just decided to play along with the Xbox live features available.

Like many other users, Instead of initially signing into my gamertag (that I've had for a very longtime), I signed in and was given some random ID (Player124793738...?)

Like some of you may know, once signed up for an gamertag on the Windows Phone, there is apparently no changing it.

Ive been looking into reversing this mistake and it seems restoring my phone is the only answer.. :/

If there are any other ways to reverse this curse and make my actual gamertag on Xbox Live available on my Windows phone, without deleting all of my beloved info, please share the answer with me.  I'd no idea that this mistake would have been so severe.  I wish the developers of these phones would've made this much easier than it is now..

Thanks In Advance.

  • You should be able to "tap" your gamertag from the "WP7 LIVE SQUARE and sign out. If your having issues with that, you can always go to the web browser and enter in the following URL to update your info ( windowsphone.xbox.com/mobile/accountlinking?gamertag )

  • Excuse the text up above, it wasnt intentional.

Btw, WP7 Live Square?  I've no idea what that is.

And also I read about Windows Phone's limits in another forum.

Looks like I'm out of luck... :/

  • Try changing the password of the Player account and then logging in to xbox live on your phone, it wil have the wrong email/password combination and will ask you to enter them again, at that point enter the email address and password for your original GT.

It might not let you do it that way, but worth trying it.

  • your only solution is to reset the device and sign into the Primary Windows Live ID with the same one associated with your Gamertag.  you can still add other Windows Live ID accounts for email, contacts, and calendaring, but for XBL, it must be the phone primary Windows Live ID.

  • Basically you have set the primary account on the phone as a new account, thus why you have a different Gamertag.

You will need to reset the device, sign in with you Windows Live ID.

If you dont want to use it as an email account (or use the new MSN features in Mango) then in the Settings > Accounts section just remove the email option, and contacts option.

As a side note, you can not change or delete the primary Live ID on a WP7 device (at present). Would be good if MS mention this on sign up ;)

    Any way hope that helps.
