Kinect speech recognition?

Hello!

I still can't believe that kinect speech recognition does not work for some people all around the world, I live in sweden and i can say that using the voice commands in english would not be that difficult...  and why do you not care about us living in other countries than US and UK and of course Germany, can we please get something because there are many players in other countries too, so why did you even send the kinect to Sweden when we can´t use it to the max! This is an easy fix so please give us speech recognition...

  • I agree completely !!! I understand that they can't understand every language, like Swedish or in my case Dutch, but they should at least allow us to use English, which works PERFECTLY fine, as long as you're not connected to Xbox Live!

This restriction is ridiculous in this day and age. All the ads mention the new voice control features of this new dashboard update, but they only work for some people in some countries. Way to keep your customers happy, NOT!

  • I have to agree on that. I'm from the Netherlands also like Knighthoodwink, and we are able to use voice control in off-line mode. At the moment we go on-line, suddenly it stops working. a simple command like "Xbox Games" does not work.  We, Dutch people, have learned English so we are able to use it... and its simply not working. Why is that?

  • I also agree with the other guyes here , i'm from belgium and since english is a world language almost every gamer can speak it , the least you can do is give us a choise to wether start using kinect voice in english or "not use it" until dutch comes out ... Many of my friends bought kinect and again it feels like a ripoff . We always have to pay the same or even more then the USA for less service ... Same thing for epic version of GOW3 , we coudnt buy one becaus its benelux ? We need some respect MS , we pay , we want the same service ... Nothing more , and nothing less

  • i am from South Africa, and this new dashboard is awesome except for speech recognition. Why does it not work - i was actually really looking forward to it after reading the hype. Can or Will this be fixed?

  • hear hear,

I've already made several attempts at contacting the xbox support people and posting on Forums.

I'm from Belgium. The reason I find this so frustrating is that, as stated in all of the above, gamers usually speak English like a second motherlanguage.

I've been programming in English from the first letter of code I wrote, my OS is always set to English, my Xbox is set to English, my Phone is set to English ...  Everything I CAN put in English WILL be set to English (even changed my car's onboard system).

This just to make it clear that I master the language enough to be able to talk to the system, as I've tested while being offline.

Is it really that big of an effort to use the boolean that gets set by the On/Off Option in the System Settings instead of looking at the profile's language and crossreferencing that to a list of allowed languages? (I'm not telling devs how to do their jobs here, I know it CAN be much more complicated)

I love the Xbox, it's just these annoying things that make it frustrating ...

In addition, will this limitation also occur when playing for example ME3 next year, as it's supposed to have speech recognition too?

  • Swede here too, please do something about this issue Microsoft.....most people over here master English pretty well. At least make it optional on next update.

  • I think it's safe to say, that this will probably never be more than a platform for venting. My only hope is that someone who can actually do something one day reads this and realizes that there, contrary to popular believe, are many more English speaking people than previously thought all over the world. Where I live, in South Africa, the majority of people only speak English (not even a very fluent second language but an even more fluent first) So let pray something gets done. If they could at least provide us with an expectancy date for the update, many of us would dance for joy.

  • I fully and whole heartedly agree. If not now, when? If now then, Why? I beseech them to rescue us from this partly self inflicted torment where the sense of entitlement over rules the remaining appreciation we have for such an innovative product. I too live south of the African continent, strangely enough named "South Africa" where, contrary to popular belief, Lions and Zebra's do not run freely in between our cow-dung huts and rural settlements on dusty and tar-less roads. I only speak English, occasionally I speak rubbish (excuse the cliché, I just couldn't resist) and I have a slight British accent event, so I really don't see the problem in Microsoft expanding their market. Heaven alone knows they could use the money. Peace Brothers and fellow players of the box

  • I've posted about this issue in the wishlist forum here. Make some people can reply in support and hopefully MS will change its stance on voice control and availability!

  • MS doesn't give a dime about these wishes.

The funny thing is that not even all who speaks English as their mouther tongue is supported. Like Australians.

    This is just retarded.

Enable the english voice control now, goddamnit.

  • I live in the USA and do not have this problem, but I do sympathize with all of you. I vote for Microsoft fixing the problem ASAP.

  • I don't understand why Microsoft often restrict functionality outside of USA, except when it is licensing problems.

As long as they warn users that speech recognition might not work correctly if english aren't you're native language it should be available.

Since the interface already is in english in most countries they have to assume that everyone has some skill with the language.
