Like the other people on here, my Kinect was working fine at first; I got it for last Christmas (2011) and it worked, nothing was wrong. After the update, the Kinect stopped working properly. It would start up with my Xbox 360 Slim, flash the green light and eventually show a sketchy, black/white picture of nothing at the bottom right instead of the room and then the light would just turn red and the preview picture would disappear. Also, The Kinect sensor never moved since the update, it's just been pointing downward. When I start playing a game and still after I exit a game, the light turns green, stays green, but the Kinect doesn't move, the picture preview is pure black, the infrared light isn't lit and the only thing it can do is voice recognition. I only used the Kinect maybe 10-15 times before all this happened and I've tried this http://support.xbox.com/en-US/kinect/errors/red-light-kinect-sensor-5 already, I even tried switching to the original Xbox 360 compatible cord to see if it worked and it didn't help. I am wondering if I should just send it too Microsoft to get repaired.

    Hello all -

First of all, I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue! As suggested in the troubleshooting guide, we recommend checking to ensure that your console is up to date. In order to do so, with your console connected to Xbox LIVE, test your connection to LIVE. You can do so by navigating to the Settings hub, then select the System Tile. Select Network Settings, then select your network. After that, select - "Test Xbox LIVE Connection." That will prompt you for an update if necessary. :)

If this does not work,  please check your cables. Are they securely fastened?

If that does not resolve the issue, then your sensor will need a repair. You should be able to set this up using our online service center, here: https://myservice.xbox.com/Pages/Welcome.aspx. If the sensor is less than 1 year old, then it will still be covered under warranty.

    I hope this helps! :)
