  • spoke with xbox rep and a netflix app.  Netflix guy finally told me that they know about the problem, something about surround recievers and HDMI switches not being able to read the codes. MS wanted the app. for the new update and NF was pushed to get it done. That was a week and a half ago. Hook xbox directly to tv or use RGB cable is what they told me. It does work but I paid good money for my surround and it sucks I cant watch movies with it.

  • Hey I also called in, I'm so tired of this ***. Haven't been able to play netflix for like 2 months. Someone fix this issue ASAP, i don't care who it is, Microsoft or Netflix....it NEEDS to be fixed. I pay for this service for a reason.

  • In response to the previous poster about Netflix stating that the problem is due to hdmi being connected through surround sound recievers, my xbox is connected directly to my tv via hdmi and I still get the R8157-6034.

  • code I was talking about is R8157-6031....

  • This is definitely a software issue - something changed in the update.  I can't use Netflix (now cancelled my trial account) or Sky TV (which I have been using happily for over a year!).

New Samsung plasma TV, HDCP compliant, new Xbox slim.  Very frustrating.

Incidentally, everything works fine on one of my older TVs...

  • We don't have Netflix here in Finland but we have the Zune Movie marketplace. Can't watch my Halo Legends from there, complains about secured connection between tv and console.

    Worked fine before update...

  • I'm having the same issue.  Tried much of what is being mentioned here.  I had no issue when I was hooked to composite video but after installing a new hdmi cable, I no longer get Netflix either.  Since this issue has been occuring for over a month, I'm not sure that they are being addressed.

  • I think Muirlan hit the nail on the head. I write software for a living, and sometimes the powers that be dictate that certain things should be abandoned if they are (1) happening infrequently (in the big picture) and (2) won't make them any money to address.

Sucks, but I really don't think we're going to see a fix here.

  • I have been a avid user of xbox since around 2005-2006. I have had no major problems with them except for the fact that you have to pay for xbox live. But that still didn't turn me away from them. But ever since I got the stupid update this December, I have had nothing but problems. I had gotten errors for netflix (Code:R8157-6030) and I would just return to browsing and restart the video. Now tonight nothing works. I watch it and it gives me"Output protection Error" all F******** night long  and it is really, really, really P***ing me off. All I want to do is watch netflix. I have a Xbox 360 S, Matte hooked up via HDMI to a 32" Sanyo TV and at this rate I'll sell my xbox and get a God**** Play station 3! I bet their not having the same problems watching Netflix!

  • I had this problem and I took the original audio/video cable that came with the Xbox and hooked it up and was able to watch Netflix with no error, after that I hooked up the HDMI cable and tried to play Netflix again and had no problems, maybe it was a fluke but maybe it will work for you good luck

  • I got this error message as soon as I started using an HDMI cable. At first I thought I bought a faulty cable and I jsut received a new one in the mail today and the same message came up. But when I go back to the main menu, it'll play again. In fact, it just now did it again. My 6 year old is trying to watch Toy Story 3 and it keeps cutting out on him. Nothing else happens like on video games, just Netflix. It sucks because I want to watch shows on Netflix in 1080p without this issue. Maybe Netflix will sort this out? Let's blow their customer support up and let them get the message.

  • Thank you for sharing your experience! I echo your sentiments regarding promoting the issue with MS customer service; the more people that call and complain, the more resources MS will allocate to solving the issue, which is clearly widespread.  I still do not have a solution from MS since first experiencing the issue in December 2011 and the issue is still occuring (R8157-6034) randomonly while streaming Netflix via HDMI.  MS has "upgraded" my issue as of recently so hopefully it is being investigated; although I am scepticale based upon my calls requesting for updates.  I'll hope for the best.

  • Just a heads up guys, if your error code that goes with that message starts with an "R" than there is nothing MS can do for you as it is not an Xbox related error and it is a Netflix specific error, i.e. in their system. MS error codes start with 8's on the xbox, sometimes a C.
