Xbox 360 will connect to internet but not Xbox Live

  • Level   1

I recently moved in with a friend and didn't have any issues at first. Now my Xbox will connect to the internet but not Xbox Live. The only work around I've found is to restart the modem/router. I should not have to do that. I already know what your gonna say and that's to contact his ISP but the way I see it if it connects to the internet there should be no issues connecting to Xbox Live. I've just about had it with Xbox. I'm seriously considering going and getting a PS3. At least there it will be free. I've already got rid of my windows pc's and got a Macbook Pro and love it so much better. Microsoft seriously needs to rethink everything.

Hi Darth, please feel free to look over the below information to help us better assist you :) If you've already tried the troubleshooting, please copy the information at the bottom and provide the requested info.

If you can’t connect to LIVE, or if you’re getting disconnected while playing, then you’ve come to the right place. Below are the first basic steps you’ll need to take to get on LIVE.

Is there something wrong with LIVE?
It's possible. You should check out the
Status of LIVE to see if there are any known issues that affect you or are related to your issue.

    Run a network connection test
The first thing you’ll want to do is run a LIVE Connection test. First, access the dashboard – the main menu on the console. You can find your way back here from anywhere, by pressing the Guide button (middle button on your controller) and selecting “ Xbox Home.”

Once in the dashboard, navigate to the ‘Settings’ hub, select the ‘System’ tile, and then ‘Network Settings.’ Select the appropriate network (wired or wireless), and then select ‘Test Xbox LIVE Connection.’

    Record the results
Be sure to read everything that comes up after the test. Even if the test completes without an error, pressing “Y” to access ‘more information’ may yield a suggestion for improving your connection.

    Check the stickies
Check the other forum stickies for a post about the  or  and error message you received when running the Connection Test. These stickies have the top resolutions for their issue.
